Gap Design Editions

tylw if you get the the bow top from rodarte you should go for a S, otherwise stick with 0s and xs for the other tops. i'm a 32a and got the xs in the trapezee but it's a little short. if u get a s you might have to wear a small tank underneath but it'll def be longer. hope that helps!

tylw, thanks so much for the lovely scans!

I wore my rodarte trapeze top out on Thursday and my rodarte bow top on friday. I love the fit, but my only complaint is that it wrinkles really easily.
How do you girls keep your Gap buys as crease-free, given that the material used is prone to wrinkling?

You're very welcome. I haven't seen the shirts in person, but I imagine a little light spray starch during ironing will help with creases! The doo.ri scarf top looks fine to me wrinkled. I could also see an tulle underskirt helping with the Thakoon petal dress.

Thanks, clucreciala, how tall are you, may I ask? Does the bow top really run that small? I wanted to wear it with something underneath, as it is a little too prim by itself. So, maybe I will get the S in the bow top anyways!

tylw i'm 5'4. the top ends a little below my belly button. i totally wasn't thinking of the length when i tried it on but only how it fit around my arms. everything else but the length is good i'd say. it's not super short but i wore the top to work i think i'd def wear something underneath, if not, then it's ok =]

Hi clucreciala, I'm 5-4 also. Wow, the photos do not convey how short that top is!? I mean, if it's that short, it's more cropped than trapeze, right? I was hoping for a longer silhouette, not a smock top, so I will ask the Gap salesperson to measure for me, before I have them ship anything. Thanks again for all your help!:flower:

clucreciala made a good point; the bow top was on the short side. i'm around the same height as the two of you, and i got my bow top in a 4 so that--among other reasons--it would be longer. another thing to keep in mine is that as the bow top size gets larger, the neckline gets lower. in my pics i'm wearing a black cami underneath...as i'm, um, not really a cleavage-revealing kinda girl. :blush:B)

reading all the compliments on the doo.ri scarf top makes me more inclined to keep it. incidentally, for anyone who is interested, i got the doo.ri scarf top in a S. i think it also came in an XS, but my store was out of that size, and i'm kinda liking the baggy look of it. another thing i really like about that top is that there is no defined shoulder seam. that's a good thing for me since i have slightly narrow shoulders.

I'm finding myself wanting some combination of the trapeze and bow tops, like the trapeze with a single bow. I'm leaning more toward the scarf top now. I just want something elegant, but not too simple or frou-frou, you know?

I love my trapeze blouse. i'm wearing it all the time over black straight leg jeans with my topshop cropped leather jacket as outerwear. it's great. I know what you mean about the creasing but i just sort of wear it anyway and it's not so so bad!

In person, I only liked three. I took pictures of them for my blog that is in my signature. I dont feel like posting them twice at the moment. Some of them were really plain, in comparison to the regular white shirts they already had there. I definitely think I am going back to get the Thakoon petal shirt dress. It was just about the most amazing thing the Gap has ever done. Granted it wasnt gap designed.

I definitely think I would like to try dyeing the shirt...maybe? I might try it with something else first. But an ombre gradient could look nice with some of the more plainer tops.

I was browsing eBay, and as I expected, Gap Design Editions Rodarte items are on there. Some people want $200 for the dresses. Err, I'll pass.

hey all! I went to the Gap that had the line here in Orange County (South Coast Plaza) because I just LOVED the Doo.Ri shirt dress - I've always loved Dior New Look/1950s nipped waist stuff though. Anyway, there was an okay selection left, and I think they may be receiving more - another store's inventory or something, supposedly by tomorrow?

There were no small sizes left in any of the Rodarte items, but that was okay for me - I'm tall/slim but a little busty and super short-waisted, so as soon as I try on anything described as "trapeze," it's tent-city for me and I go from "cute figure" to "hay that girl looks shapeless." I was bummed at first because I was excited to see the Rodarte stuff but to be honest, there was something about it I didn't like. Maybe it was the fact that it was the simple white fabric, but it either looked unfinished or unpolished. The bows looked a little too-too for me, both cutesy and kind of haphazard. Then again, bows are usually not my style.

(I keep typo-ing "boys are usually not my style," and that's not true.)

There were no Thakoon petal dresses left that I could see. I tried on the Doo.Ri shirt dress, the Doo.Ri pleated shirt, and the Thakoon tied shirt dress. If I hadn't been such a dimbulb and had a) read this thread before going and b) paid more attention to clothing on the Vogue cover and not just the models, I might have had more luck. The Thakoon tied shirt dress was really awkward as a dress, but had I been a super stylist (or even just more creative) I probably could have done something interesting with it over a skirt or pants. The Doo.Ri pleated shirt was cute but it was too boxy for someone built like me. I could have tried tucking it in like the model did, but on me it pooched out too much in the back and ended up being too both tailored and shapeless. Kinda awkward. It needs to be shaped more in the back or worn by someone with a different body type.

As it was, I loved the Doo.Ri shirt dress - there were quite a few left in S but no XS. The XS might have been a touch better for me but the S fit in the shoulders so I went with it. It was voluminous like everyone has said but that's rather the point - you have to gather it and belt it very firmly to get that nipped waist/full skirt/blousy look. I'll try and photo it later.

I kind of wish I'd tried on the other Doo.Ri shirt, the scarf one, but I have a feeling the scarf might not have worked for me.

Have to say though, I love all the photos everyone has posted of their purchases. Even though I didn't like some of it in the store or on me, somehow what everyone has bought looks great on them!:heart: I love when that works. It's all about personal style, y'know? I've been spending too much time gazing at The Sartorialist...

Just picked up the Thakoon shirt dress (without the ruffles) in Portland, OR. I've gotta say, I LOVE it. It is tailored in the back, and looks super cute w/ black leggings and high heels. It's definitely dramatic and volumnous, but the dramatic shoulder/sleeves w/ the pulled in waist counterbalance the fullness so it doesn't make you look heavy (esp if you tie the waist a bit higher like on the Vogue cover). I'm 5'8 and a size 6/8 for the most part, but I picked up a small. It's definitely a "fashion statement". In terms of construction, I think it's probably the most intricate of the pieces. I tried the others on, and frankly, couldn't make them work.

stiletto, i enjoyed reading your post! :flower:

pictures, anyone? i'd love to see how more people rock these tops & dresses.

Thank you!

I will try and take pictures, altho today I realized that the Doo.Ri dress needs a slip in a big way. Why yes, that is my behind you see.

girleen, now I'm reconsidering the Thakoon shirt dress after reading your post. I did like parts of it but there was something awkward about it. Maybe it's because I was trying on a size S and am 5'8" but a 2/4? If the store gets in an XS I might try it again and try tying the waist higher, per your suggestion...

how fast are these things selling? i really wanna get the bow top and maybe a dress, but i cant get to a gap that sells one until maybe this sunday..

I've been to 4 Gaps and everything is sold out (In western Canada)^
