Givenchy HC S/S 08 Paris

soooooo gorgeous  i would have liked to see a little bit of color, but i still love this.
the tailored jackets + the fluted skirts is perfect

Couture was all about custom work in all it's forms (day to evening) and artistic expression within reason. Now it seems to be about re-nventing fashion with each fashion show. That just is not possible. True creators are about evolution not revolution. Even Rei Kawakubo refines and redefines her previous work.
Besides, if couture is only about making ever more ridiculous outfits for the visual satisfaction (and mostly dissatisfaction) of the masses and nothing else, then it deserves to dwindle.

Beautifully put! This post in my eyes closes the disussion on repetition, reinvention, evolution and revolution in fashion.

Agreed! Although the signature of Tisci is there (now as recognizable as say, Victor & Rolf), these clothes are different, and some of the techniques and construction are new. I'm dying for that white multi-layered collared white coat dress...dying....these clothes *will* sell to the client with the discrete palate and extravagant budget. HC isn't about loud embroidery and skirts the size of a small house - it's about exquisite clothes that make you *long* and yearn ton wear and collect them.

from wwd.com

GIVENCHY GROUPIES: Ricardo Tischi of Givenchy is becoming quite a designer's designer. Both Yohji Yamamoto and Alessandra Facchinetti showed up to watch Tischi's couture show on Tuesday. "He really respects the clothes," said Yamamoto.

Yes, he's "old-school" that way. You can tell his passion for the clothes and his particular vision, it's "Tisci". He's not making a joke or a carnival of haut couture, he really means it! I love this guy!!!!

what do you guys think the couture customer buys...??

my guess is DRESSES and BLAZERS...

especially BLAZER/JACKETS...

*so regarding those skinny pants...
that is just something to show the BLAZERS with...
there has to be something on the bottom-they can't send the girl out 1/2 naked...
but i think the point is NOT the pants...
but the top part of those looks..
if you think about it from a sales point of view...

*and of course i agree with bidwell..
i pretty much said the same thing 2 pages back...:P

Beautiful collection  I'm definitely loving this, probably my favourite couture collection. It looks like a fairytale, it's magical and moving

what you interpret as 'ridiculous outfits', others may see differently.

Tisci bores me.

I love the structure, relatively monochromatic pallette and several of the androgynous looks. I adore the feathers (I think that's what they are). I don't care much for the pleating even though they lend the clothes some architectural virtuosity ... it reminds me of the Renaissance, jesters and Shakespeare. Don't get me wrong, I love the Renaissance and Shakespeare but the jester-look is silly to me....

i like that this collection is full of beautiful, wearable couture..

some of the coats (the white trench especially) are really stunning

i can appreciate a big spectacle of a show like Dior HC and i understand that it is largely used as a (very expensive) marketing tool.. but i also think that a fashion house's main objective is, and should be, to turn a profit and making wearable items like these jackets and gowns that are not too over the top is great..

i think it's a difficult task to make streamlined pieces for a couture show because everyone these days is expecting something big, lavish and experimental (and almost unwearable)..

i agree that we've seen some of these looks before and i'm not blown away with the collection as a whole but i think it was a success overall..

I'm not very crazy about this collection, some of the pieces look like last season's left overs

i am totally in love with the black open toe boots

i would love them even more if they offer them in flats instead of heals seeing as how i can't wank in them.

how much do u think they will go for? hope they are not in the thousands

Amazing shoes and the clothes are so eloquent. I agree with Bidwell. I'm not all a-gush but I'm not disappointed either.
