Givenchy HC S/S 08 Paris

I agree that this collection is beautiful and etc. but the problem w/ it is that it's a simple review of the past Givenchy collections. There's no pure inspiration ...

Everything isn't completely novel, but I'm loving it nonetheless. The ruffles are precious.

I think the question for me, is, at what point is it artistic continuity and when does it become just cranking out the greatest hits again?

What I struggle with is that I still love so much of it. There's a part of me that says, well, yeah, I have seen that ruffled silhouette before, but it's still soooo pretty and it is a little different. :P

But there has to be some evolution from collection to collection. As someone pointed out, it is missing some of the edginess, the excitement of previous collections. As much as I love this collection, I suppose I should expect more from Tisci? I have similar feelings about Dior, actually.

I love this. :blush::heart:
everything from the simple lines and pieces to his stunning signature ruffs, I love this collection and appreciate more the modesty of couture-making, still left in some designers. even if for a limited time.

Very beautiful collection, very wearable. Indeed, lots of Givenchy last few seasons, but I think Tisci can do a bettert job in the future!

quite repetitive, but very beautiful
love the white ruffles series ^_^
thanks for all the photos! detail shots were great

i think you are all missing what riccardo is doing. im going to break the collection down for you.
Dior sells almost no couture. they are doing it in a way that says we still the most powerful we can afford to make costumes. Givenchy is trying to Pull a chanel move. this collection is full of Jackets and Pants suits the main sellers in Couture. gowns are almost always a loss because 1 person will order a gown and no one else will want it because they all run in the same circles. He can mod each jacket a little for his clients. he is doing just what he should trying to SELL couture. there are some power moves in there Fabric Sculpting and his tranparant froks over short skirts are not just in SSHC07 but in his second couture collection those are very Givenchy thats part of the code. his resort collections and RTW are selling like hot cakes and hes is making a profit on couture. pay attention he is making power moves dont just look at the "SHOW Peices" Look at all the things in the collection that will sell. hes is about to make tons of $$$ with this. Bravo Tisci

^ But why would any client, couture or otherwise, want to get skinny pants at this price point?

Let's face it, the majority of today's clients for couture aren't these young trendy girls. They're grown women who know what works for them and know what they love, do you really see any of them ordering a pair of $20,000 skinny leather pants? Maybe Daphne Guiness, but that's about all I can imagine wearing some of the so called salable pieces.

Being wise enough to create wearable pieces is one thing, sacrificing creativity in the only venue where it's not just accepted but expected is quite another.

actually those pants will run about 5 thousand couture is priced by time and cost of material and suit runs around 20 thousand trust me they can sell plenty of those skinny pants. the new couture woman is 20's and 30s and in hollywood the ladies who lunch wear chanel the ladies to party like rockstars wear Tisci

PARIS, January 22, 2008 – The only young-generation couturier working in an establishment Parisian house, Riccardo Tisci is growing into his job at Givenchy with increasing confidence. What he's putting out now has a graphic strength and energy that, after many years in the doldrums, is giving the house an identity of its own. It was there from the first look, a sharp black doublet jacket and flouncy circle skirt with a white frilled under-edging worn by his friend and house mascot Mariacarla Boscono. That modernized dance-skirt silhouette, and Tisci's slightly fierce, youthful tailoring gave him a line to pursue—"Gothic Ballerina" is the way he described it in the program.

His slim, long-line jackets—part military, part equestrian—were well-cut elaborations of the look he's been exploring in ready-to-wear. But he also kept up the continuity from his last couture show by doing more with feathered dresses—one, a high-riding ball of ostrich over a simple tank; another veiled in a sheer cage of tulle. No harm in that—every designer needs signatures, and now that Tisci has left behind the contrived conceptual presentations of his early career, what he has to offer is becoming more distinct with every season.
