You can see the clothing, but there's no 'story'. While I don't expect an extravaganza every season, I do want a brand to put some effort into creating a sense of visual excitement through their advertising, over and above relying on people's affinity for a certain model, or a nice colour scheme.
When I consider the amount of money that's involved in campaigns, I do wonder how they can end up so forgettable. It's not about crowding the image with detail; you can create something very minimalist but nonetheless sensational. It's about wit, flair, a true sense of how to communicate through an image - and it's priceless. Or maybe not in Gucci's budget at the moment, because it all falls under the heading 'catalogue'.
