Gucci S/S 10 Milan

I will give frida the credit though ,the woman knows how to make damn good shoes and bags lol.

the only reason i will sell is because it is not fridas usual aesthetic ,lol . I see Tom Ford, Facchinettis Gucci , Preen and Givenchy put in a blender lol

and a bit of balenciaga too! although, i think that this collection has more gucci felt like pieces than previous ones. i loved the cut-outs, specially the grey first dress. it seems like it is slowly getting more relevant, although sometimes it feels like a bit too slow...

Derivative, but nowhere near the same. This seems derivative from Facchinetti's work.

I wonder if you've put your finger on what's really going on here.

There is just no doubt in my mind that there's someone new behind the scenes who's actually responsible for "Frida's best work ever."

Could it be Alessandra???

Where is this Tom Ford bollocks everyone keeps talking about? I don't see anything from Tom Ford whatsoever. Did Frida REALLY think that by copying Tom's signature hair and makeup she was gonna somehow revive his work? Because she didn't and she can't. There's a big difference between her and Tom.

For all of you who had the guts to compare this to Tom Ford, think again. Tom Ford had vision. He didn't just make clothes, he created a whole attitude, an attitude that would give women their right to be seductive. He invented a personality that was so desirable and unforgivingly sexy it was just impossible for women to NOT want to be the Tom Ford woman.

This is just a silly-b*tch attempt to reinvent Tom Ford's work, and what a fiasco it is. Frida's basically feeding off Tom Ford's pre-cooked image and persona to create some sad rip-off version of it.

All she's done here is recycle trends from her previous work, added a couple of things here and there and she's off.

I'm glad Im not the only one seeing the Givenchy "influence" here, because it's everywhere, especially those bondage boots. This is what I love about Givenchy and Tisci; anybody who tries to employ Tisci's ideology in their clothes becomes so easily uncovered (as we already saw earlier in New York). Tisci just has that signature personality in his fashion. Frida doesn't.
She needs to come up with something she can be remembered for (if there is anything). She's ridiculously unoriginal and just living off Gucci's history-hype.

BUT Thats being said I don't think it's an ugly collection, in fact it's quite classy and probably flattering. The best thing to come out of Frida in ages, if not ever.

I agree with Squizree. God you make me laugh :P

Still think Frida doesn't know what she is doing unless it's the accessories and half of them aren't that great.

I also agree with Salvatore. She just makes clothes and it's not luxury. I never mention Gucci when I'm talking about the big ones.

pleasant surprise from gucci, wow
I definitely see some Phi in the collection, but it's still VERY gucci
 nice

hope it will be a step in the right direction for gucci!

I have to agree there is someone new on the design team. Also, I think PPR is perhaps putting a little pressure on Gianinni to turn out collections that are memorable and covetable. I definitely get the sense she is feeling the heat and I love it. :shifty:

And is very funny you mention Phi 2nova as I thought that their latest P/E 2010 collection was more Gucci than Gucci is currently! :innocent:

i feel like this is a great collection for gucci, its completely fresh & still every bit commercial in the ways giannini knows how to market. the shoes are seriously the business.

i cannot agree more. and there's a reason for that. this is the closest she has strayed to the tom ford legacy since her tenure began at gucci. honestly, i'm so thankful for this economic meltdown because it's making the whole of fashion wake up and actually start SELLING clothes again. it's not just about the exercise of putting on shows and printing magazines, it's actually about creating irresistible clothes for people to wear and love again. i haven't been this excited about a gucci ready-to-wear show since tom ford left to be honest and as someone who basically obsesses over him, that's saying alot. i mean, does no one remember where this began? it recalls for me that crying-ly beautiful gucci show for fall 2003 without the soul.

:clap::clap::clap::clap:

i cannot agree more, but what makes me compare this so -- and with such excitement -- is that it proves that there's NO BETTER MOMENT for tom ford to come back and take his rightful place at the top again. we've sorted all of the silliness that's hypnotized fashion for the past few years and the pendulum has swung back into his arena. this collection more than any other proves it.

^ Tom Ford achieved the perfect balance between creativity and business. He obtained that ever elusive formula that allowed him to make truly groundbreaking clothes that gave women a reason to want to dress, a real type of freedom, while at the same time selling very successfully. He truly was genius.

we're getting more and more closer from a futuristic collection,, which wasn't the case with last collections (especially this SS ). that's interesting

mikeijames, why did you have to bring that picture in here from my most favourite Gucci collection ever (and most favourite collections of all time)? I had to refrain.

Again, I really fail to see the link to Tom Ford and I am not only an enthusiast, but I was a customer until he left. Maybe in the hair and makeup, but not even the accessories come close to when he creative director and Frida was the one designing them!

The thing about Tom Ford is that he created a minimal luxury/demi-couture like none other, yet he absolutely understood the business side of things. Gucci was the perfect example of a brand able to do interesting clothing and still sell the runway looks and other things. This is why I do not understand why designers like John Galliano, are not allowed to put a little more DNA into what they design while still making things to sell.

Frida only understands the business side of things and that is unfortunate.

lol You know what? The reason why my earlier post was so nasty was because of the initial Tom Ford comparison. I had that EXACT collection in my head when people mentioned Tom Ford.
Really makes you  doesn't it?

I know! That collection was untouchable. It is terribly hard to recreate it without just simply making it over.

That's what makes a legendary designer to me. Producing unforgettable and unreproducible collections isn't something everyone can achieve.

I also can't shake from my head the similarity between a dress from this collection and a dress from Versace Fall 2005. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid.
