Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows *Warning - Thread WILL Contain Spoilers*

I plan on rereading the book this week.I feel that maybe the second reading will endear it more to me.Now that the original shock has worn off, i realized i loved the book(not as much as the others mind you)but i still think that there were some monumental problems with it.

I'm at the place where Luna's father betrays them to get his daughter back. It's quite touching....you know, even though he sold them to the deatheaters.

It's gotten me all teary

It is touching isn't it! it's the way he misses luna so desperately.

dobbys death had me all sad! it was just so moving.

This is the 3rd time I've posted straight on  but my brother got the book, flipped to the end, yelled 'HA ***. THE LEAK WAS REAL' Basically, I've lost about 50 bucks to him because I thought JK had more nerve than she did and might actually bite the bullet and kill off Harry.

I still believe that if she had done so, the series as a whole would earn a bit more respect.(not that it already doesn't but...well, I hope you know what I mean  )

if you mean deliver it from the tripe-y triteness that it has now become, then yes. i know what you.

now i'm going to go cry and hope this has all been a brilliant, brilliant hoax by scholastic.

Yes, that is what I mean, if JKR had chosen to kill off Harry or any of the trio, it would have elevated the book to another level and the series would have finished off as something that transcended the stereotypical tendencies that so frequently dominate books nowadays.

In fact when the spoiler I read said that he did die (though....he technically "did" ), I was actually quite approving (and proud of JKR :p)
In any case, that is not to say I didn't enjoy the book (or currently enjoying the book. I'm almost done  ) because I do and I bawled my eyes out during several moments (Dobby's death, for instance. Hermione' tourture) but to say the least, the fairytale ending JKR chose to finish off the series has left me disappointed and slightly sickened (and the NAMES didn't help)

I'll probably re-read it and appreciate it more

And I'm extremely anti-Ginny/Harry which adds to my dislike of the ending :p

My sister is planning on reading the book in a year and she bought it today

It was a decent book but i cannot help but feel that it was just not on par with the rest.It had so many stupid side plots and it just didn't seem like JK's usual style.Don't get me wrong i mean there was moments of sheer brilliance( first chapter for example)but then at times i was like WTF? As for Snape, the most complex character next to Harry And DD, i felt like is whole story was rushed. Now as for DD by far my favorite character and he still is.She made DD more human and to me and his back story was the highlight of the book. However, i felt that the whole book was pretty random.I mean the deathly hallows thing came out of nowhere and the forest roaming thing for like half the book was absolutely pointless. And where the hell was Ginny in this book? How about Lupins strange erratic behavior and his and Tonks random death?? i could go on and on but i'm to tired right now to go into anything else.

Oh and dont get me started on that epilogue:blink:

EXACTLY!! Where the hell was she in this one? Or the 3rd/4th one? Ginny had some prominence in the 2nd and 5th book but the attention was never on Ginny. Granted, in the 2nd book Harry thought she was a bit strange and in the 5th one, he was distracted by Cho Chang but the transition of Ginny's maturity from a giggly pre-teen infatuated with Harry Potter to this 'extremely attractive, low-cut dress wearing' goddess has barely been touched upon.

I can rant on about my dislike of G+H (since in my opinion she has never risked herself for Harry as much as Hermione or Luna.) but I still have bits of the book left to read and I don't want to overly insult anyone else who is a G+H shipper.

Though in my honest opinion, there were some cute moment with Harry and Luna  (The scene where Harry goes into Luna's room, for example ^_^) and I don't even ship them

Did Luna end up with Dean? or was it just me that saw that in the text?
it was nice to see dean have a bit of a part in the book as he never does really, you usually hear more about seamus.

i have to admit JK did seem to be very careful not to kill anyone 'to main' she was alot more risky by killing dumbledore in the last book. i mean i was pleased hagrid survived but how did he in some ways. and moodys, lupins and tonks' death was very much brushed over. i did love in the epilogue the part with teddy tonks and victorie who i assume to be fleur and bills daughter though!

^Yes

So let's make a list of who dies:

Fred
Tonks
Lupin
Voldemort
Crabbe
Hedwig
Snape
Moody

Who else am I missing?

thank you for the information:flower:
wow, thats disappointing.....i mean it's good that all main characters survived, but it also sucks.i excpected something unbelieveable a la sopranos finale i guess.at least ron or hermione or harry should have died.jk rowling was intriguig veryone how major characters will die...but i mean a bird? boo-h--ooo ,big deal, owl dies.:innocent:

I think Dobby's death was very well done. That one of the only really close-to-tears moments for me.

Harry should have died. I don't like how he just sprang back to life...

McGonagall proved once again why she is one of the best character in the series. And the Mrs. Weasley/Bellatrix fight was nice to see.

As for the epilogue, it was too fairy-tale like, and it could have given some more pertinent information than just some lazy "nineteen years later..." fanfiction. (But can you imagine if Luna was in that scene, telling her child to watch out for gnarls are something!? It'd be ten times better.)

DID anyone else think the book was DARK? It read like an adult novel instead of child-novel. That part with Moody's eye on the door was yech.

There was a lot of resemblance to the Holocaust.

And how did Harry get blasted by the Avada curse and end up in purgatory/king corss?

I thought that as well...

When they saw Luna's room, and the chain around their faces said "friends"...

This book was quite sad. Poor Dobby. I thought that Hagrid was going to die at the beginning, when they were chased..I'm so glad he stayed alive. I cried like a baby when Hagrid thought that Harry was dead

I just reread the book and on the second reading i really just fell in love with it.I realized that everything did have a purpose and it really was a wonderful book. Was there still many flaws? yes and i still feel that JK left out and rushed through many things. One thing i did loved was all of the historial allusions.I loved that the book was so dark.I really felt that Harry had matured as a person and i loved his conversation with DD at the end.As for Snapes story, i stand by my original comment that it was too rushed but i still admit that his death was very powerful. When he tells Harry to look at him, i started to bawl.Same with Fred dying. Now that i have come down from the initial reading, i am better able to evaluate the book. The scene that hit me the most in both readings was Harry's death march.Absolutely brillantly written. As for DD, i feel JK opened a door for a lot of questions regarding him.I would love for her to write a book on DD!What a complex and excellent character my favorite in all of literature. One thing that does not change is my dislike of the epilogue.I think she left the door open for her to continue to write in the Potter-universe but this time with Albus Severus(worst name ever)There is also tons of questions she said she would answer but never did.I wouldn;t be to bothered if she didnt make a point of telling us she would answer them.

All in all, it was a brillant book with great flaws. There were so many great and memorable lines and moments.I am ,however, saddened that it is all over. But these eight years of fandom (half my life pretty much) paid off and i cannot wait to see what she does next!(I'm even excited about the movie and i don';t really like them!)

Well, I absolutely loved it. :woot:

The part that made me cry the hardest wasn't a death -- it was when Hermione was being tortured and Ron was practically sobbing hearing it. I loved their relationship in this book.

I hate that she killed Fred, even though I predicted it before. To take him away from George is just horrible.

I was not really surprised with any of the deaths.I always thought that by the end of the series all of the Marauders would be together again.Fred to me always seemed to be the most outgoing of the twins and i just had a feeling he would go.Now Hedwig, Dobby and Tonks totally floored me.I just never thought they would go.Snape was no surprise either(oh one thing JK did right with Snape was the suspense on who side he was really on.She had me guessing until the last moment).I knew that with Voldie coming to an end so would Snape.I was actually expecting some more major deaths like Hagrid or Ron.As a matter of fact, i think it would have made the book more realistic if one of them had die.I just wish JK would have taken more time to go into Harry's feelings about the deaths. So many things in the book were so perfunctory. That to me was the books biggest flaw.Brillant but overly random at times and more than a little slightly haphazard.
Basically i'm still all over the place with this book. One second i love it next i'm not so sure(as exampled by my previous posts lol).I feel like a walking contradiction lol.I am not sure what to think i will just have to wait and see.
