In flight travel essentials!

I can't fall asleep either, but never ever take sleeping pills on a plane, not only because its a potential hazard to yourself and other passengers but also because you're supposed to get up every 3 hours and stretch, walk around etc (and sleeping pills will knock you out for longer than that)...I really have no suggestion, I travel between New Zealand (Auckland) and London and its a pain in the *** because i'm often awake for over 48 hours...

god..this no new liquids rule is such a pain..my contacts get so dry during mid flight i usually take them off and put on my glasses, then just put my contacts back in before i land..
also..i always carry all my toiletries on my carry on luggage..grrr!

Big sunglasses and maybe a large hat. Possibly both. Thick earplugs and one of those cement-thick Sony headphones that would mute out a nuclear war.

Airplanes are digusting, cramped... It's the modern equivalent of one of those scary ships from the Turn of the Century that were packed with people immigrating to America.

I absolutely avoid air travel, I would take a rowboat to Hawaii had I the choice  . But us Americans must somehow cross the oceans to visit the 5 other continents, eh?

I usually take ships or yachts, actually, especially when traveling abroad.

What is the deal with the liquids ban? I went overseas a few months ago (Europe and Japan then back to Australia), and i've never come across it. I always take water and all my toiletries in my hand luggage so they don't break and i can freshen up during the flight. Is it just a US thing?

^^ Boots, I think it's in Australia too. I will be travelling soon and I've been warned about it. It was on the news a while ago....but who knows...maybe its all just talk??

The liquid ban will apply for the EU, Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein from tomorrow... up to 100ml of each product in a clear ziploc 1l plastic bag... you can take your duty free stuff with you, but it's going to be sealed in a special bag with the bill and you are not allowed to open the bag before landing...

besides you will have problems if you take liquids with you from a non EU country to an EU country if you have to change planes... you probably will have to leave the liquids and non verified makeup behind if you then proceed to leave the EU airport again..

How horribly confusing/annoying! I've never encountered it before, and i fly a lot. What exactly does it prohibit? Does it mean you can't even take liquid foundation, bottles of water, etc?

i really hate flying, especially long haul flights. i go sans makeup and bring along spare contacts (daily disposables), floss and that's it since i am able to get toothbrushes, combs and toothpaste on the airline i use. for short haul flights or on airlines that don't provide anything..i make do without. it's a real hassle though, i used to be able to just handcarry my essentials in a small cabin bag for short trips but now i have to check it in. still i'd do anything for a safe flight

What kind of liquid does that restrict? I usually have a big bottle of water and a tube of moisturizer with me, would I be able to take these on board? I have a flight booked in May to Belgium, and I would like to know more about this ban.

It's weird that they have all of these restrictions because I flew less than a year ago and carried a bunch of stuff that's restricted onboard. I had a bag full of makeup, including liquid foundation and a big bottle of water and no one stopped me.

I can't believe that gum wasn't mentioned here! I hate that awful popping in your ears, and chewing gum before and after take off really helps.

You can bring water but it has to be purchased after the security check. You will also have to put the moisturizer in a container no larger than 100ml and put that in a 1l plastic bag (like a minigrip bag).

Liquids that have to be placed in a plastic bag include deodorant (unless they're roll-ons), gel, toothpaste, moisturizer, perfume, shaving cream etc.

Usually most airlines will have a guide as to what you can and cannot bring :flower:

Heck, at one point, J.K. Rowling was asked to leave her manuscript behind because any carry on luggage was prohibited!

The ban is really ridiculous, I wish there was some way we could fight it. I think they are taking things WAY too far with this one.

I know, I was just too lazy to take a look at their website ^_^

Can I use the moisturizer on the plane?

^Yes, you can ^_^

I meant sticks. Roll-ons have to be in a plastic bag.

Has anyone recently travelled from Australia to Japan who can comment on the liquids restrictions? I'm wondering what i can actually take in my hand luggage now! Normally i arm myself with all manner of moisturisers, drinks, and lotions!

I don't know if this will help anyone, but if your looking for beauty airplane approved products just go to sephora and shop the "airplane approved beauty". :)
