Inspiration (January 2005 - April 2010)

My style inspiration comes from anything that drapes. It sounds weird but the first thing that got me into that was when my mom was putting her curtains up and I thought t myself "drapery is so beautiful" and kind of got into the habit of styling myself to mirror the same simplistic beauty.

:flower:

I'm also an artist and where that is concerned I always get inspired by the most grotesque things. I don't know what it is, but I stumbled upon a deer in the woods once that was in the middle of decomposition, and some bones were visible and it inspired me in the weirdest way.

I'm very drawn to drapery as well, my favorite aspect of fabric is how it pleats, folds, and swishes. Save for shoes and a few jackets, there is little structure in my style, I like clothes and accessories (bags, belts, jewellery) that seem to flow organically from my body. And when I do wear prints and frills, most impart a feeling of movement, not stillness.

^ I like drapery too, but decomposition does very little for me ^_^

I prefer structured bags though ...

dior_couture, I quite like Rosie myself ... up until a few weeks ago I had a matted Rosie leaning up against my inspiration board. Amelia & I share a birthday but I like to think I have more common sense  I find it sad that there were seemingly so many early female pilots, but so few today ...

Oh my gosh, there was a goth trend in the early 80's, sorta graveyard-chic, where the clothes were purposefully tattered, frayed, and decomposing. As to be expected, the outfits in 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and 'Corpse Bride' reference this a bit. I find it fascinating and haunting, but have yet to take it that far, Ta-ta, don't you worry.

^I'm getting into those purposefully frayed or unfinished edges myself.. "unfinished" a better term for me

It gives clothing life..

that and also the draping, when the clothing moves with you
I used to be into well fitted, structured clothes and now I like the idea of having both in one garment.. Where one part has shape and the other just floats

My inspiration comes from my personality, magazines that I read, music that I listen to, Gwen Stefani, 30's, 80's, 50's and artistic stuff.

that's interesting, c~d

prada spring 2008 also had some awesome craquelure..
folded,crushed and printed over

It's so interesting to see what different things inspire different people! Not only that, but how things like pictures of houses in the countryside can inspire the way someone dresses. I love people who are able to have such a broad view of their style, not just on a garment-to-garment basis.

Gotta start making a new collage now :P

this thread is great! just a general question: what are the most inspiring songs to you guys?

I'd say anything experimental and truly unique... Bjork, Animal Collective, My Bloody Valentine

I'd say anything by Joni Mitchell. I can never remember the titles of her songs (even though she's my favourite..) but the one song about the man being the statue in the garden.
Most of her songs are such complicated metaphors it's probably impossible to understand them without asking her what they really mean, but her voice and the music just gets to you.

Bowie songs in general almost always make feel more free-spirited for whatever reason, and Fiona Apple's "Criminal" is just over-the-top 'dark' romance is remarkably sultry. I love her voice.

Minimalistic in a seance.. and I'm waiting patently for warm weather to begin ^_^
