luckyme - I like the jacket.....but I'm not sure about the skirt for some reason...I don't know whether i like the scalloped edges. I think my reservation about the jacket is that its so glaringly IM this season.

thanks, i was hoping you would help me, helena. glaringly :glare: is an excellent adverb for this seasons aesthetic ... i like what i've seen for choices by tfs posters very much so far, so i thought i would lay this one on all of you.

i once saw that style skirt on a woman blogger and really liked it so i was curious enough to try it but i dont have a strong aversion to minis so if its long enough and has the casual chic factor i rely on isabel for, it might work. the jacket is cropped, thats a plus, and i like the sooty grey cotton with the zig zag trim but anything lurex is a turn off so its a toss up right now...with marant the clothes have staying power and actually get more rotation the year after i buy them once the "in season" aura dies down.

that jacket is amazing

the skirt is also nice, if paired with thick stockings I feel like it won't have an age limit.. if without it might not be that great on an older person.. it all depends on the styling though

^^^ haa luckyme - it was garance dore who was wearing it wasn't it? She had one from last summer...and it seems to be the same shape. I'm not sure it looked great on her - I think she wore it with bare legs and heels....(if i remember correctly) and I tend to think such a short skirt should be paired with flats (sth androgynous or at least girlish) just so that it doesn't look too glaringly (!) sexy sexy. So - I can see you in the skirt with a simple t-shirt or sweater and little brown legs and lace up or ballet flats.

Hmm i'm convincing myself here.....i can see ME wearing the skirt with black patent ballet flats, black opaque tights, puff sleeve sweater and a black blazer.

I tried on that skirt and ended up looking like a robot or part of the Jetson's family. It's made of a very thick material and it doesn't flow very well.

i saw that photo too (on the sartorialist). i think it would look better too with flats, but she paired it with kind of edgy heels so not so bad in my opinion.

I really liked that skirt shape on Garance, and she's no spring chicken. So i think it works.
Honestly , I not like the jacket.

I would love to know your opinions, I have a very important opening at the Art Gallery I work in, and i was thinking of wearing this IM dress. But i have no idea what shoes to wear. I usually wear it with Vivienne Westwood pirate boots to tone it down, because I hate the "dressy" feeling. But it clearly will not do in this particular night. I tried it with High heels, but I'm 5'7 and adding 5 inches, i'm afraid i will be showing to much leg , and it will look hookerish. The dress is quite short. What do you think, what type of shoes should I wear or should i just give up the dress and wear something longer?

blossbloss, that puts a wrench in things, doesnt it...thanks, i think. ;-) on the other hand, i kind of liked the jetson girls.

yes, it was gd, and i'm no spring chicken either but there is something to be said for great legs, a good skirt, and gads of confidence to pull it off...B)

les sucettes, the pirate boot sounds so good it has me stuck because that is an ideal visual. but, you could wear a simple wedge, low or high, and still not look to vampy but more artsy. do you have any marni or owens type wedges?

OPENINGS

Isabel Marant’s much-anticipated SoHo boutique opens on April 9. The store features Corinthian columns, poured concrete floors and, of course, the French designer’s chic collection, including her iconic slouchy boots, which are worn both in winter and summer. The Dana, below, is $1,160. Other key items are the Hola embroidered jacket ($1,370) and Xacala fur vest ($1,490). The center of the boutique is a jewelry display constructed of timbers stretching from floor to ceiling; 469 Broome Street (Greene Street), (212) 219-2284

Thanks, that's a good idea.:flower: I think i need to hunt for some wedges.
All the shoes I own high or low are all a bit casual, if i exclude the one pair of VW stilettos that are my default shoes everytime i need to look more formal, there is no much more i can choose. And those ones with this dress do give that "vampy" look, that I try to avoid at costs.

Brilliant, thanks for the info regarding the shop!

Sucettes I think the VW can look quite good with the dress, but that look seems more 'day' to me a bit too casual to an event at a gallery.

i think that type of skirt would look awesome with celine type wedges or white sneakers...

sucettes - i would wear a pair of black patent ballet flats - very sofia copolla.....

^^ I don't like the way garance wears that skirt...bosoms, legs, heels, big hair......too much....the skirt looks very stiff too.

Lucky - I'd wear the skirt with wedges or flats.

Don't like the way Garance wore this skirt either, as Helena put it, it's too much.

Les Sucettes, what about some black patent high heels? I was thinking of something like what Rupert Sanderson does. It's not too high but still very elegant.

Les Sucettes - that dress is very pretty - not at all hookerish! - My dad's a photographer and we often go to gallery openings here in London and here people tend to dress down rather than up or look a bit effortless at things like that. Slouchy boots in a neutral suede and minus chains! would look great or black opaque tights with black ballet flats would look chic and be less exposed than bare legs.

I went to Paris on a whirlwind visit yesterday and bought the bejewelled linen stripe jacket in dark blue. Totally unexpected purchase - I saw it, tried it on and loved it immediately. I was a bit frightened by the shoulders at first but as they are narrow they weren't too in your face. It looks very pretty on its hanger on a hook on my dressing room wall - it looks very much like a work of art...I plan to wear it simply with faded jeans and casual tops much as I would a Chanel jacket.
