it is pretty bizarre, but i don't like it. it looks like they try too hard.
how do you "try to hard" to dress how you like?
every other japanese on the street have a very similiar style. the whole country is obsessed with the same look.
which look is that? define it please... i want to know how the whole country is dressing.
don't get me wrong. rarely, i see some with exceptional style, but it's pretty rare i think.
oh we arent getting you wrong.. you have no respect for japanese street style..but occasionally you see something that matches your tastes.

you're right. i really don't have any respect for japanese street style at all.
most of 'em are very influenced by what the westerners wear and are not
very original. i've been to japan, and pretty much the entire country dresses
very similarly. everyone copies everyone. their look is all the same--tons of
layering... sometimes it looks ridiculous, in my opinion.

very few cute pieces i've seen, but overall, i don't like it. you can like their
fashion all you want. it doesn't float my boat. i'm more into european fashion--classy, yet they know how to stay unique to themselves and hip at the same time.

 Go back to the last page and look at the pictures I've posted. As in any big city, different areas dress differently. The downtown area dresses more "classy" and business-like, the college area dresses more comfortably and slightly funky, and the more artsy area dresses more funky and artsy. Japan is no different. If you look at the pictures I've posted, you can see how the different areas dress differently. Post #1506 (Omotesando) and #1504 (Shibuya) are cool, casual dressers with a slightly funky bent to them. Whereas post #1505 (Harajuku) has a very funky, artsy look. And the post you must have completely missed  , #1507 (Ginza), has that more "classy" look to which you aspire (and fyi, it's not really "classy" to generalize about an entire country of people). And while yes, some of the people are influenced by what "westerners" wear, many are not. One could even say that some "westerners" are influenced by what some of the Japanese people wear. If you don't like the things they wear, what are you doing in this thread? If only I had vast amounts of free time, in which to go to all of the threads about things I didn't like and complain.

wow.....just.....wow.

Where did you spend your time in Japan? the Airport?

It's not my job to do but i think we should turn back to the original topic than quarreling.
Both of you are right, in the one hand we must learn respect and avoid talking about something we don't know much, but on the other hand i often hear absolutely the same that Dreamland says by japanese people with great style.

Peace guys! :flower:

yours and boluda's post are so wrong in so many levels.
for a forum that promotes an open mind towards fashion, you seem pretty anti-progressive. im all for people having their own opinions, but labeling 'all' japanese people childish short bad dressers is borderline prejudice and totally ignorant.

there's absolutely no prejudice here.

i guess japanese streetstyle isnt for me. way too over-the-top and outrageous. like dreamland said, its like they try TOO HARD. especially the piggie tails "schoolgirls". i prefer more simple, more classy and less showy fashion.

similarly, i dislike teenager italian fashion (logos everywhere, TACKY) or the average old-navy wearing american look.

Japanese street fashion

Why is the world in love with Japanese street fashion?

Why is the world in love with Japanese street fashion? Looking through the multitude of Japanese street wear fashion magazines such as ViVi, NONNO, CanCan, Elle, Ray, JJ, I finally realized why Japanese fashion has made a mark in the fashion world: Japanese fashion is full of DETAILS. From the top of their head, to the tip of their toes, it seems like they have spent careful thought in selecting every single piece of their clothing. It’s not how each piece of clothing looks. It is about how each piece of clothing complement each other. It is about a look that tells people: ‘Hey, I spent about 3 hours today getting ready, and I look good’. That’s why “Japanese fashion” in the eyes of most Japanese fashion lovers is not a particular style, but a total look of completeness.

On a trip to Japan last year, I walked through the streets of Shinjuku in my Miss Sixty jeans, GAP tee shirt, North Face jacket and black square-toed 2.5 inches square heeled boots, and I felt like a total hag! All the Japanese girls around me were – in my opinion – utterly chic, stylish, and trendy. Were they sporting anything in particular that made them look so fashionable? These girls were in high-heels, kitten-heels, flats. They were wearing long skirts, minis, a-lines, full bell skirts. They were wearing snug sweaters, loose-fitting tunics, sexy tops, tee-shirts. I couldn’t pinpoint a specific look… then I looked harder and caught sight of the bright multicoloured leggings, the richness of material in their apparel, the mix & match of bright deep colors, the uniqueness of their shoes. They all had set hair dyed to perfection with the ‘in’ colors, little purses and totes that they carry in the crook of their arms, the shiny accessories and jewelry To complete the look. I finally realized what I’ve been lacking in my search of being IN-Fashion: The follow-through in completing the final look. It didn’t matter what the actual ‘style’ of clothing were. Now I might not exactly want to look like that in America. But I will definitely strive to pay more attention to details in the future. Maybe one day, someone will stop me on the streets to take a picture of what I am wearing so that they can feature me in their street-fashion magazine.
