John Galliano - Designer

So we have to wait until 2016 to see his mens collection?
MARK THE DATES: The next edition of men’s fashion week in Paris, slated to run from Jan. 21 through 25 in the French capital, will include Cifonelli on the official roster.

The Parisian bespoke tailor that launched ready-to-wear last September is to present its fall-winter 2015 collection at the Musée de la Chasse, the city’s hunting museum.

But John Galliano is to sit out the week for a second season as it has yet to find a new manufacturing partner. It had hoped to return in January.

Separately, the Fédération Française de la Couture du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode, French fashion’s top governing body, said it elected Boris Bidjan Saberi and Christophe Lemaire as full-fledged members of the union.

John Galliano to Parade Margiela Couture in London

PARIS — John Galliano is to parade his first couture collection for the Maison Martin Margiela in London on Jan. 12.

In a statement, Margiela said its Artisinal range would be presented “exceptionally” in the British capital “around tea time” on the day, which falls during London Collections: Men.

Margiela characterized the choice of city as personal, going back to Galliano’s “formative years and his beginnings in the industry - and it is intrinsically related to the city’s traditional tailoring history and heritage.”

It is understood about 100 people have been invited to the event, including editors and friends of Galliano, who is making his fashion comeback almost four years after being sacked by Dior and his signature fashion house following drunken racist and anti-Semitic outbursts.

A Margiela spokesman said the collection would also be presented by appointment during Paris couture week Jan. 25 to 31. London’s men’s shows run from Jan. 9 to 12.

So let me get this right. He's going to show his much-anticipated comeback collection for Margiela's couture line..during London's Mens Fashion week; thus, stealing the spotlight from practically all the menswear designers who are showing that week?

John is a prick.

Haha. I suppose it's all about perspective...

London Fashion Week has been so dire-- and men's fashion week even more stone cold, dead dire. I think John's a savior for bringing the much needed excitement-- and life, back to coincide with that dusty event.

I love the idea of John at Margiela but i hope it's going to be Galliano doing Margiela and not the Margiela label serving Galliano. I don't want to see a biais cut dress with a Margiela tag.

He is not doing Margiela Menswear? i'm a bit confused by it...

Actually London is becoming the most exciting week from the season, sadly most people in fashion don't take the time to care about the Menswear shows.

Quite a silly move. It steals away the spotlight of the London shows and one less thing to look forward on the already thin Couture week.

I was going to say that maybe he'll put his show at night when all other designers that day finished showing but then I saw the "around tea time" part.... There are many major brand showing that day, hope they are not pissed.

8 pm british time, i think, since that's when showstudio is doing their live discussion thing

According to different websites the time is 4:30 London time, 5:30 European time.
I hope it's going to be live, but I think not. It seems rather a selective gathering. But MMM facebook has a livestream tab.

The return of John Galliano: the 'enfant terrible'

Vivian Hendriksz | Monday, January 12 2015

Four years after a public, drunken, anti semitic outburst nearly ended his fashion career, infamous fashion designer John Galliano is set to make his much anticipated comeback to the industry on Monday, during the final day of London Collections: Men, as the new creative head for Maison Martin Margiela.

The 'enfant terrible' will be bowing a "small collection" of his debut haute couture "Artisanal" range for MMM in a newly built office building close to Victoria station at 4:30 pm, symbolic for the designer's metamorphosis. "It is a very small, intimate space," said a spokeswoman for the fashion house on Sunday to DPA.

Although Galliano's comeback show is not part of the official program for London Collections: Men as it will feature women's wear rather than men's wear, a number of high-profile individuals are believed to be attending the show over presentations from Savile Row's Chester Barrie, Stockholm's Tiger of Sweden catwalk show and C.P Company's presentation which overlap with Maison Martin Margiela's event.

According to sources at WWD, Alber Elbaz, artistic director at Lanvin, Christopher Bailey, head at Burberry and friend/milliner Stephen Jones are some of the top designers believed to be attending the Parisian -based fashion house's show in central London. Other prominent individuals said to be attending the show including top-models Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, editor at American Vogue Anna Winto u r and film maker Pedro Almodovar.

Whether the show will mark the triumph return of Galliano - or not - remains to be seen, with many industry insiders thrown off by his decision to stage his return in London, rather than Paris after a 25 year absence from showing in the UK's capital city. “To me, the idea of putting on the Artisanal show in Galliano’s home town of London and making sure it is full of John Galliano supporters is chickening out,” said fashion historian Tony Glenville of the London College of Fashion to the Guardian.

“All of his friends will be cheering him on in London. If you put it back where it should be, in Paris, it would be a more confident statement.” Galliano's decision to stage his comeback in London over Paris resulted in Maison Martin Margiela being dropped from the city's exclusive haute couture calendar for January, despite the show being a one-off event.
Despite the subtle snub from Paris's haute couture calendar, the start of 54 year old designer Galliano third act will undoubtedly have the majority of the industry on the edge of seat later today, with #MargielaMonday and #JohnGalliano trending on Twitter amidst posts claiming "The King is Back!"

Looks like they're changing in to Maison Margiela. Wonder if people will be as outraged as they were with Saint Laurent...

not really...at least not from this long-time fan....it's a bit long to type that's why most people often refer to it simply as MMM. his name is still attached and obviously it's still recognisable. personally i was never one who really jumped on the "quelle horreur" bandwagon with SL....it's a new era and yves is no longer with us or even had been involved with the label for years before passing. i'm just glad they're still referring to it as artisanal.

I asked someone (not sure how credible they are) if the show will be livestreamed and he said no :(
