Jolie and Pitt, with 'Heart'
Updated 10/9/2006 11:35 PM ET
By Scott Bowles, USA TODAY

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are in Pune, India, where filming just began on their latest socially conscious project, A Mighty Heart.

The film is based on the 2003 book A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl, by Mariane Pearl.

Jolie plays Mariane, widow of the Wall Street Journal reporter, who was murdered by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002 while researching a story on the links between "shoe bomber" Richard Reid and Islamic spiritual leader Sheikh Mubarak Gilani. Mariane was pregnant with their child when her husband was kidnapped.

Jolie said in a weekend statement that she was disappointed not to be filming in Pakistan, "a country I love and have visited three times." But security concerns pushed the filming to the western Indian city of Pune, which was chosen because it resembles Karachi, Pakistan.

Dan Futterman, who wrote the screenplay to last year's Capote, plays Daniel Pearl, according to Paramount Vantage, which is producing the movie with Pitt's Plan B production company.

Michael Winterbottom, whose other films include Welcome to Sarajevo and The Road to Guantanamo, directs A Mighty Heart. It's scheduled for release in 2007.

Angelina in character

She pulls the look off pretty well. I'm sure she'll do the character justice in the movie.

Honestly... she looks pretty convincing in that picture, but I think she's one of the most overrated actors around. She isn't that good.

Did they really orginally intend this part for Jennifer Aniston?
I can't imagine how they would make her look like that.

I second that.:innocent:

I have only ever seen her in Gia and I thought she was good in that.
I have heard that is still her best performance to date though....
besides maybe Girl Interuppted.
You have to wonder about her only being able to play nutty people convincingly.:innocent:

Angelina isn't attractive enough to play Marianne. I also can't believe they picked Angelina to play a afro-cuban woman. I wish they would have chosen a lesser known more attractive actress.

What has the hollywood come to when the role of a minority is played by I white woman?

I agree.I mean yeah she looks great with all that make-up but they couldn't have an unknown african american or biracial actress to play her (Zoe Zaladena(sp?)comes to mind)I have never liked any of Angelina's movie and i'm pretty convinced she can only play a crazy woman convincingly. However, maybe she will prove us wrong in this movie.

I was also thinking Zoe Saldana, Gloria Reuben or Thandie Newton.

Not only is there a lack of roles for ethnic minorities but there is also a sense of disregard for ethnic minorities playing other ethnic minorities. It's quite disappointing.

Ugh, I know it was sad and all but something about Mariane rubs me the wrong way--and she'll probably be portrayed as some sort of saint in the movie.

Oh well, whatever. I'm not going to spend $8 to see the movie.

Sidenote: Angelina's gonna have to act her butt off in this movie....judging from the picture, a wig and a bit of make-up doesn't exactly cover up the fact that she's Angelina-Jolie-who-had-Brad-Pitt's-baby-in-Africa.

Mariane Pearl is acutally a mulatta (black/white).

I only remember her for Tomb Raider.

I agree.

I mean I love Angelina, but geeze. This isn't West Side Story, there are actual biracial /black actresses that could have played the part, and play it well.

If Jolie was picked for this part, sh*t, I can most definitely protray
Queen Elizabeth the 1st......I think it would work, even though I'm
not white, or speak with a British accent......

Thanks for looking it up on Google and pointing out the already very obvious....

It still makes her a visible minority and still make Angelina white.
Her only being half afro-cuban doesn't change the fact that there are several talented bi-racial and black actresses who could have played Marianne.

I wonder who Ugly Jolie slept with to get this part?
