Jolie and Pitt, with 'Heart'

I'm so utterly lost right now. I think I want to laugh, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to.

I'm sure 'race' is interesting from a scientific point of view, just establishing how the human race evolved and how we became who we are. But to discuss it in modern society..to me is just ridiculous. It's INTERESTING to discuss origins. But nothing more. People are just people. Some of us are tanned, some of us are deathly pale. Some of us have sallow skin, some a browner shade. It's just skin. Some people have been persecuted for the way they look, some have never encountered it regardless of how they look. Some people persecuted for being too ugly, some for being too beautiful, not just colour. I've never understood this sort of prejudice and fixation with outer appearances and I never will.

Incidentally most people think i'm Russian or French. This crazy lady on the plane started shouting at me in Russian, and more when i looked confused. Then I said.."i don't understand" and she looked at me completely puzzled and said "sorry, I thought you were Russian". Or how about the guy who came up to me in the street and started speaking pretty mediocre french. I humoured him for about 3 sentences then went "You know, i'm actually english". He went.."oh" and skulked off.

It's either laugh or cry, or both simultaneously, which will get you a diagnosis of some sort of mood disorder. But don't worry about that, because Oprah will Abilify you during the commercial breaks.:cry:

I've got Italian blood in me and no one believes me. They don't believe I'm Polish either, but I've got Irish in me and people believe that just because I dye my hair red. Naturally I'm blonde with green eyes. Not very Italian looking and I guess I don't look Polish enough either I guess because the friends I had that were "off the boat" scoffed when they found out.

I think it's important to know where your family is from because it's fun to learn about, but getting so caught up in who's what is probably what makes so many problems in the world.

Brad Pitt denies star couple’s bodyguards ‘racist’
(AFP)

18 November 2006

NEW DELHI - Hollywood star Brad Pitt denied on Saturday that any of the bodyguards working for him and his partner, fellow actor Angelina Jolie, were racist.
Pitt’s statement came after three of their bodyguards were arrested following a scuffle at an Islamic school in the financial capital of Mumbai, where Jolie was shooting the film ‘A Mighty Heart.’
‘This is an awful, awful misunderstanding. We would never employ anyone who is racist, or who would hurt or push a child,’ Pitt told India’s NDTV television in a damage-limitation interview.
Parents at the school had accused the bodyguards of shouting, ‘You bloody Indians, you bloody Muslims,’ when they came to collect their children after classes.
They also accused the bodyguards of pushing around parents and children and making a gesture miming slitting a throat.
‘This is not what Angelina and I wanted,’ Pitt said.
‘Angelina and I have a multi-racial family, we want them to respect and understand different religions.’
Pitt, who is producing the film in which Jolie is starring about US journalist Daniel Pearl’s abduction and murder by Islamic militants in Pakistan in 2002, had apologised Friday to Mumbai police over the incident.
The three bodyguards have been released on bail each of 25,000 rupees (555 dollars) after being held on accusations of making threats and an ‘insult to religion.’
‘The case appears to be in cold storage now’ unless police decide to pursue the case, Mahesh Jethmalani, a lawyer who represented the bodyguards, told AFP.
The bodyguards -- Thomas MacAdam, Robert Dunn and Michael Bret who are all British nationals -- were arrested early Friday at a five-star hotel in Mumbai.
In October, one of the couple’s bodyguards was caught on camera by an Indian television crew grabbing a British photographer by the throat and warning him to stay away.
Jolie has also denied that her bodyguards had made racist comments.
‘Let me say this: I would never work with anyone who was derogatory towards another man’s race. My family is of mixed race,’ she said in a statement.
‘It is not surprising that the press involved failed to mention their share of the responsibility in the chaos,’ Jolie added.
The film’s production house said it had permission to film at the premises, but a battery of press photographers rushed in when the school gates were opened, ‘creating confusion.’
In the interview with NDTV, Pitt dismissed rumours that the couple who have three children -- two adopted -- planned to adopt an Indian baby now.
The rumours surfaced after the pair visited an orphanage in the western city of Pune and distributed toys.
However, Pitt said they might in the future.
‘We are not planning to adopt from India at this point but it’s certainly something we would consider in the future,’ he said.

I just wanted to post...

I don't care about this!

I wouldn't care if a black woman played a white woman in a movie, I don't care if a white woman plays a black woman in a movie either! :innocent: (I do kind of care when every historical drama is acted with a British accent though, that's just weird!)
