The reviews haven't been positive. Most have noted that it isn't very consistent. Not very shocking considering the film was only completed on Thursday! I hope they can edit it more, most reviews seem to praise the acting.
http://www.torontolife.com/daily/hype/tiff-talk/2011/09/11/the-oranges-premiere/Last night saw the premiere of suburban morality tale The Oranges at the Winter Garden theatre (scheduled in a dueling time slot with the Russell Peters flick Breakaway, which played at the Elgin below). Oliver Platt was the first to arrive at the premiere, followed by cast members Allison Janney and Hugh Laurie. Leighton Meester emerged from a Goodnight Gansevoort limousine in a white lace Alexander McQueendress. Unlike her co-stars who marched immediately into the theatre, 25-year-old Meester stepped off the red carpet to greet the swarming fans and sign autographs. Before the movie, first-time director Julian Farino informed the crowd that he’d only finished the film four days ago (his parents had flown over from England for the occasion).
After the screening, the cast assembled onstage for questions (and fawning “I-actually-just-have-a-comments”). Platt made a point of crediting his onscreen chemistry with Laurie to the screenplay, asking writers Ian Helfer and Jay Reiss (who were in the audience) to stand while he chanted “The script, the script, the script” (more than 10 times). One audience member asked the director to justify the morality of the movie, in which a 50-something dad hooks up with his neighbour’s 24-year-old daughter. Director Julian Farino responded there were no easy answers on the road to happiness. A few minutes later, when asked a completely different question, lead actor Hugh Laurie insisted on returning to the morality issue, taking that same audience member to task for having an overly simple idea of what morality was. Sadly, no one asked any questions of Allison Janney, Leighton Meester and Alia Shawkat, who stood politely onstage while the boys had all the fun.
I like it at first but now i´m thinking that the skirt is a bit too long.
http://www.deadline.com/2011/09/tor...nto-oscar-race-while-stars-keep-hitting-town/I don’t know what the dream release dates are for the two acquisition titles I saw today. But someone should quickly grab Jennifer Westfeldt’s (Kissing Jessica Stein) heartfelt and hilarious Friends With Kids in which she stars, directs, writes, and also produced with longtime bf Jon Hamm. It is a breakthrough movie for the male lead Adam Scott as well as a smart and commerical comedy. Also playing well today was Julian Farino’s wickedly funny holiday season-set comedy The Oranges and would be a good bet for the indie scene since the cast includes Hugh Laurie, Leighton Meester, Allison Janney, Oliver Platt, and Catherine Keener among others. It was good to get some laughs on such a somber day. For a change, because some of the stuff here makes you want to slit your wrists
Leighton Meester admires her former Gossip Girl costar Taylor Momsen's career, but she could never quit acting for singing like her castmate did.
"Both is where it's at," Leighton told me after her performance at Tiffany's last night for Fashion's Night Out. "If I had to choose, I think I'd be very unhappy."
But it's clear Leighton is a big fan of Taylor's music and acting skills...
"She's so talented, and anyone I know that's heard her music is a huge fan," she shared. "You can't help it. She's also an incredible actress and just a lovely girl."
Leighton took the stage last night to a packed house at the Tiffany's store on 5th Avenue, where she performed an acoustic set of new material and even played guitar.
The aspiring musician says she writes song about things and people near and dear to her.
"I'm inspired by my friends, my family, love, loss of love, fashion, art, traveling, sex, food...everything!" she told me, adding she wants to continue playing shows but is unsure when her actual album will be out.
"If it were up to me, I'd release it today," she explained. "I do want to continue to perform and let people hear it. I do wanna play other places but until my show is done for the season, I can't."
The busy girl is headed to Toronto Film Festival next for the premiere of her new movie, The Oranges, before heading back to work on her CW series, but said she makes family a priority when she gets rare downtime.
"I spend as much time with my family as possible. They live in Florida and I visit them. I try to go down there once a month or so," she told me.
We're guessing she probably isn't referring to her mom, who she's locked in a nasty legal battle with at the moment.
