Ah, it was inevitable, but the sudden hatred for Leighton has lowered her rating on this thread rapidly!

^ oh come on, I wouldn't say hatred.

Its a combination of things - namely that Leighton's appeal has always been tied to the popularity of her character on GG, and Blair Waldorf as a character has become insufferable this season and GG as a show is just ridiculously bad.

* Not to mention Blair's style has also sucked this season, its nowhere near as good as Season 1, and Blair mostly looks like a crazy grandmother (ie. a geriatric version of the poor-man's Olivia Palermo)

In combination with her "singing" career - which very few people see as credible, and the stuff that came with the singing (ie. embarrassing video clip, ridiculous stage outfit) inevitably people view her less as a serious actress and more as just another B (C?)-lister trying to sing.

And there's no denying that her outfits recently have really sucked, and I'm not just talking the gruesome AE outfit, she keeps taking risks ie. Christopher Kane's dress - for example was such a MISS, and I don't think she pulled off the Marios Schwab either.

I don't know, I'm one of the few people who actually thinks she wants to have a singing career. I remember hearing her rendition of Bette Davis Eyes a year ago and I loved it.

Yeah, Blair's style hasn't been very interesting this year, BUT this is Leighton's thread. I think Leighton has had a great year for fashion. I really don't think she's trying THAT much to steer away from Blair (that one crazy outfit with the bad makeup is the exception). I just think now that she has more exposure, she has the ability to take more risks (if you look at a style timeline for a lot of actresses today, you'll see that their style has evolved and changed).

I think the Christopher Kane was one of her worst outfits. But she's had many hits including the YSL, Emilio de la Morena, Marios Schwab and Prabal Gurung outfits. Plus her streetstyle is great, too.

Now that you did mention all of those points, it's easy to see why people would suddenly think she's changed. I just don't believe she has.

And I agree, her personal style overall has been pretty good. It was basically non-existent back in the day (prior to getting a stylist), it improved alot to the extent that her everyday streetstyle was (and I believe generally is) better than Blair's.

I like her candid style - because it seems unpretentious, relaxed and generally features fabulous shoes or bags.

However her red-carpet style is extremely hit and miss, for me with more misses than hits. Alot of people have pointed out that she takes more risks than other starlets but isn't able to pull it off, and I think I would have to agree.

The Christian Cota outfit (bad shoes and makeup) was also a huge miss, her outfit to Proenza Schouler with the swimming trunks was pretty dodge, and her Bottega Veneta - lovely dress, but totally wrong for her height.

I'm sure Leighton wants to sing and have a singing career, but that doesn't mean she should. And right now, I'm learning towards she shouldn't. I just haven't seen anything that indicates she has particular talent for it (occasionally, a good song is not enough), and then I would prefer her to polish her acting instead where she definitely has plenty of talent.

Blair and Leighton are undeniable intertwined. Blair's style will occasionally be mentioned in the Leighton thread and vice versa. But if you look for the GG style thread, it's practically dead nowadays because of the absolutely atrocious style all around since mid season 2.

I agree that her candid style is consistently good and I think it's because it's really her. Her red carpet outfits are very hit or miss, I tend towards hits because she's beautiful and can pull of a lot of different looks. And in general, I value variation over *coughboobs&legscough*, so I do enjoy seeing different styles on Leighton.

I haven't made up a decision on if she has changed or not or if she just want to change her image. She has made some questionable decisions lately, Ponytrot basically summed them up pretty well but I want to see if it's just a phase or well, permanent.
