Marc Jacobs F/W 07.08 NYC

ok...my style.com is working a lot slower that yours it seems:huh:

I love the layered vests look, but it's difficult to wear.
Other than that, my initial reaction is disappointed. I like how he's worked with colours but it does seem more appropriate for older ladies than the usual Marc Jacobs followers.

I also see it's vintage ysl, but I can't help but thinking these clothes feel extremely dated.. they just feel old.
I'm not a fan.
agreed. Definitely hasn't got me jumping up and down. The models made up to resemble vintage 30s fashion illustrations is a cute gimmick but only a couple of dresses in #
136 & the footwear & Lanvin-esque bags catch my fancy. While it's impeccably tailored, polished, reserved and 'grown up', none of this makes me wanna run out and buy MJ. The 30s & 90s never did much for me anyways.

I agree with Tunuviel and pucci_mama.

I can find items like these in my grandmothers closet. They're the only items left after I've raided it for the good stuff that actually fits.

There are some nice items, though.

I hate being mean but I highly doubt there's such a thing as a marc term..he pretty much swings where the tide is heading and things point out to the 30s at the moment.. one season he's alaia, next he's rei, he's yves now and the in some future, he might as well be dries. he pretty much cheapens every look and therefore makes it more accessible, hence the great success.

Ha! You took the words right out of my mouth B).
The only thing constant about him is that he takes a "retro" style and cartoonifies it; simplifies lines and exaggerates details for a pop effect.
No matter how attractive a collection may be I have a hard time giving him credit as a designer...

this is not progressive at all...
i agree with those who've said it just looks old....
and not old with a twist, to make it new....just old....

when we look back at fashion archives in 50 yrs this is just going to look out of place and make no sense, imo...
been there done that....
the only thing i'd wear would be some of the pants....*maybe....
and the little black dress w/the pleats at the bottom....

at least when marc does his usual messy grunge its a bit innovative...
he puts his stamp on it.....this just looks like someone else's collection from someone else's time in history- maybe that was the point?.....doesnt really work for me though....

i dont know. they are all screaming yves saint laurent to me.

this is a refreshing collection, especially for marc. great to see that someone didn't completely rely on itsy bitsy dresses and leggings.

wow Marc
reminds me of YSL and Miu Miu, but it's really nice collection ^_^
i love hats and gloves, and satin dresses

Marc's obviously been in Paris too long. Or at least he is designing for the age group that can afford his clothing here. However, if I want YSL I'll buy YSL not Marc Jacobs! That said some of the dresses appeal but they aren't anything new...I prefer the old - odd - Marc Jacobs vibe.

Whoever said this was Marc doing Prada doing YSL is totally right. Prada did this look like 4 or 5 seasons ago.

I suppose the attraction with Marc as Mutterlein has said is the accessibility he creates with Marc Jacobs collection. With his diffusion line, THAT is where he creates the appeal to his younger, cuter audience. I don't necessarily think this collection is going for an older clientale - its still a Marc customer - one who likes to be future flapper one season, grungey chick the other and now a modern deco lady.

I love a lot about this collection - as with every NYFW, it seems Marc always sets a tone - its like after this collection, we are suddenly seeing clearer 'trends' coming through...such is the way he presents his collection.

Well done, Marc.
This is all going to look chic on anyone (especially young) and these days that counts volumes.

I like this collection - love the elegance. Much better than the grunge look.
I also like the colors, black, white and the deep red

this is SUCH a nice direction that marc is taking things in.. definitely best of ny

I really dislike this. It looks like a cheap knockoff of YSL. But what is to be expected anyway...
