Marc Jacobs F/W 09.10 New York

omg but there's NO energy at all ......
with the music, the make-up, the theme etc. you wait a tiny energy on the catwalk ... a runway à la 80 .... but wow ... nothing it's serious as hell ... commercial as Guggenheim ... boring to death ...
poor Suzy Menkes, I'm sure she wanna write something mean but she knows she already had one chance ...

though i don't want something Bestey Johnson ... I want a bit of fun ... not recession sad androids ....

I think the music was done just SO badly....seriously.

i usually love the music of his shows.

I'm a bit 50/50 about this collection. There are some nice pieces that I like (Stam and Du Juan's dresses) and the rest is either too 80s throw back or something that I feel like I've seen from American Apparel.

The highlight for me was definitely Diana Dondoe on the runway.

ok so... i can look through the uglinest of this whole 80s. vibe in this collections. Many items are not acceptable for me , few are fine and there are few which i love. For example the kimono-kind yellow coat, some pants, jackets. All in alll : to 80s. but still better than most collectiond in New York so far.

I will never like neon, but that aside there are some pieces that I'm absolutely in love with. I read the reviews first and actually I don't think this was at all that bad.

I just don't understand...what did Marc really think he could bring to the 1980's neon clubber look that would really freshen it up and make it totally modern? I love Marc, but I just don't understand what prompted him to do a collection inspired by such a tacky period in fashion history.

Thank marc and the bloody crisis for holding back the return of the 90s!! sooner or later it will happen, and then we can get ready for true pain!:cry::cry:

:lol::lol:
yes the styling is pretty extreme, but there are some amazing pieces! both for the street and for editorials!!! although there's a lot of bright yellows and purples, there are some realistic propositions for everyday too! it's a good way to balance a collection that can make a show both in the magazines and in stores.

besides, everybody knows that the best thing about the 80s being back on the runway is the return of Hannelore Knuts B)B)

i'm really surprised that Valium Knights by Spinnerette was the first song

I don't really know what to think of this?

Pulling the collection apart.
The vintage print half-bias skirts are very nice.
I also think the neon ponchos with the black 'outlining' are fun.
I loved the hoodie with the black fur.

One piece actually spoke Rene Magritte to me - the piece where the scarf went under the collar of the shirt and had zips all over the skirt - I felt rather surreal. I like that.

Wait a week or two and I'll've formed a better opinion.

That was my favorite too (wished the zip skirt were longer), and not only referencing punk but self-referential to his "sexy"/lingerie collection I thought. Love all the zips.

I also see a Boy George and Grace Jones ... made me wonder if they're all meant to be someone?

I thought that there were some really great pieces in the collection. The styling was amazing...but the collection itself was okay.

I have a feeling a lot of the models were supposed to pay homage to icons of that era. Natasha Poly's hair and makeup gave me a bit of a Debbie Harry vibe, and this model looks too much like Tina Chow for it to be a coincidence.

It's interesting how every show I've looked at so far this week has had such a heavy eighties influence.

i dont know if it was THAT appropriate for a fashion show but im kinda gladly surprised he decided to us spinnerette and katastrophy wife for the soundtrack :D

it definitely NOT a coincidence spike and ta-ta...:P

didn't like the 80s influences - the neons and badass hair. are people really going to buy into this?

Ah, that show was so amazing....more late 70s than early 80s, really, as far as the emotional output and the make-up. Ah yes, that was a much needed shot of lovely craziness. And though it's inspired by Stephen Sprouse, it is much more refined, like late 70s YSL.

We're in a recession. So they turn to the decade of excess. Too obvious a comment I feel , unless it's being made in a hubris sort of way.

This would be really fun and gaudy if it were an editorial...
But Marc is always so heavy-handed... he never gently guides people into his world...
It's always force-fed to the viewer...
It's a shame b/c this could have been really great if not for the poor execution.

Somethings changed with Marc Jacob's collections as of late and I put it down to his physical transformation.

Before he got fit and became this outrageously confident and flamboyant personality, his collections had that very Marc Jacobs quirkiness. The awkwardness. The geek factor. It was unique but it wasn't pretentious. It was fashionable but it wasn't forced. It was offbeat but it was strangely alluring.

His girl and his aesthetic have changed drastically in the last 3 years or so. To go from the left to the right in the short span of three years is utterly bewildering to me.

I associated Marc Jacobs with a certain ease and nonchalance. I always imagined a girl/woman like Sofia Coppola wearing his clothing. I also associated his aesthetic with a certain degree of intelligence; a woman seeking to express her creativity by the way of fashion, but again approaching it was a degree of thrown-togetherness.

What disappoints me most about this collection is the forced nature of it all. Theres nothing attractive or interesting about trying hard to look 'unqiue' and those are exactly my sentiments regarding this 80's pastiche.
