McQ Alexander McQueen for Target

Yay! Maybe I'll actually buy something from Target this time.

I dont care about the reputation of target it is the first time I will be able to afford one of my absolute favorite designers (at least for now) and that is fine with me. I hope he keeps it edgy and interesting without compromising his designs.

This is not much of a surprise, since all McQueen talks about these days is creating a fashion empire. In creating that empire, this collaboration with Target is brilliant.

However, as Lee builds his empire with the Gucci Group, he will destroy his reputation as a designer. He will become more of a business man - and we will get loads of boring collections and more of these cheap chic-collaborations. In my opinion, his egomania destroys his talent with clothing.

Just wait for the McQueen snowboards and tennisballs, bed linen and towels. It is all coming up.

^and he was also the designer who said he would close down his house completely when he dies. i doubt he will now...

egh

once Target has a designer, H&M wouldn't do it. and tbh, i prefer H&M collabos because, as a European, it's much more accesible for me than Target. which, basically, doesn't exist here.

this is what a lot of us were hoping for. target is listening to consumers it seems. they realized that a lot of people in their late 20's were buying the go international items as well. this is wonderful news frankly.

McQueen Kicks Off Target Design Effort

As Isaac Mizrahi’s final collection for Target cycles through stores, the retailer is unveiling plans for a new fashion initiative.

Target in March will launch Designer Collaborations, which is aimed to be an ongoing program that will bring a series of established designers to the masses at low prices. Designer Initiative is a separate program from Target’s Go International, which focuses on young or emerging designers and, in the past, has featured names such as Proenza Schouler, Luella Bartley, Behnaz Sarafpour, Rogan and Richard Chai. Industry sources have estimated that Go International does more than $100 million in annual sales.

The launch collaboration will be with Alexander McQueen, who will create a version of his McQ collection, called McQ Alexander McQueen for Target.

“Both programs are geared toward our trend-minded guests who are always on the hunt for the newest and hottest looks at an affordable price,” said Trisha Adams, senior vice president of Target. “Designer Collaborations is another way in which Target brings an emporium of designers to our guests. This specific McQ Alexander McQueen for Target collection does have the potential to skew toward a slightly older guest compared to some of our other designer collections.”

The retailer said additional Designer Collaborations are planned. Each collection will be available in stores for a limited time.

Participating designers will draw inspiration from a muse, creative element or collaborative partner. McQueen chose as his muse Leila Moss, the lead singer of The Duke Spirit, a British band known for mixing noise rock and grunge in the late Eighties and early Nineties. Moss’ style gave the line its rock ’n’ roll-punk vibe and hip-Brit accents.

“We believe Designer Collaborations will appeal to our fashion-forward guests as well as possibly attract new customers who are fans of Alexander McQueen and McQ,” Adams said.

McQueen, who established his secondary line, McQ Alexander McQueen, last year, said at the time that it’s “younger and more renegade [than the main collection], but always signature McQueen.”

McQ Alexander McQueen for Target will feature lightweight sweaters, skinny jeans, bubble dresses, slim skirts and cuffed shorts. Signature pieces include a coated cotton poplin black trench, a rock ’n’ roll gray denim cropped studded jacket, a men’s wear-inspired tuxedo blazer and a color-blocked one-shoulder dress with bubble hem. The collection also will include swimwear and cotton voile print scarves. Price points were not yet available.

The collection has a muted color palette of black, white, gray and tan with accents of cobalt blue and bright pink. Studs and mesh give items an edge. For example, a chambray sleeveless shirtdress has stud detailing, there’s a mesh wrap dress and an open yarn zipper cardigan. Graphic prints and silk-screen photographs give tunics, dresses and T-shirts visual interest. The Leila silk-screen T-shirt with a necklace collar was designed for The Duke Spirit lead singer, while other band members are immortalized on a sleeveless jersey T-shirt.

A sateen strapless pleat dress in a tattoo print of mermaids, dice and anchors is an example of McQueen’s penchant for pairing feminine fabrics with tough details — in this case, a studded leather belt.

“The McQ Alexander McQueen for Target collection will be supported with an advertising strategy designed to drive buzz and traffic via innovative out of home, online, national magazines and e-mail,” Adams said.

Not so keen with the collaboration but it's pretty much interesting.

i think it sucks the guys are being left out. honestly,i dunno if i find that very democratic, ultimately, which is what these collaborations are supposed to be about. it's quite hypocritical, actually. that's the one thing i do appreciate in h&m....they do actually offer men's selections in some of their endeavours. i understand keanan duffty was the culprit but relying on that is silly because that's only one designer....he isn't mcqueen or mcq. they just have NOT had any interesting designers for the men. if they would actually work with somebody like a mcqueen, they might be able to garner a bit of interest and success sales-wise. and besides that, they are so behind in that approach. menswear has become a booming aspect of the fashion industry now. men are beginning to really drive sales in fashion so why,if target is so keen, don't they take more of an advantage of that? i mean they could have offered rogan for men...libertine for men...so many possibilities and they never have taken it.

and frankly there is only so much can endure in converse one star or a bunch of ridiculous screen print t'shirts.

i think in a time of recession/depression men will only buy basics, while women who may already own basics will buy a few more interesting standout items.

i hope that target does change their mind again about offering a mens collection as the economy ameliorates again.

there were quite a few stephen sprouse for target items offered for men in 2001. (man, i wish i could go back in time and pick up a few of those items)

There Better Not Be Junior Sizing For This Line If They Are Focusing On An Older Consumer.

Well. Thanks for nothing, Target. H&M's collaborations are getting crappier by the year, I was hoping they would throw some money at Lee and do a collab...but guess not.

Hmmm...I was skeptical before, and I'm not particularly happy with the news.

Target? McQueen? Are you kidding me? It'd be different if it were for H&M simply because H&M has some cache, despite the fact that their clothes are so low quality. But Target is so middle America. I don't hate Target...I myself have bought simple, easy t-shirts and such there...but I'm just not liking McQueen participating with Target.

In fact, I'm beginning to get tired of high end designer/ low end retailer collaborations. I don't think "democratic design" has to mean high end designers creating clothes for under $100...I think democratic design should just mean better design at all price points.

the tattoo print dress sounds amazing.
im most excited for the cotton voile print scarves!!:woot:

I am so happy, I need to start saving money now...

I think this is great thing for us younger fans, even though i can't buy this i will find a way to get my hands on some stuff. Also i think more more designers will be doing this too.
