Model Casting F/W 2023.24 & Cruise 2024

China modeling coming out of the woodwork after ~3ish years.. I just need to see Jing Wen somewhere now.

I’m kind of over Ashley Brokaw: in regards to how appropriate the models cast are for their respective shows, I can’t fault her, but it bothers me how she casts a parade of new faces for Prada each season only to jettison the majority of them the next. Also, her influence as a star-maker seems to be waning as not even the girls who’ve debuted as Louis Vuitton exclusives are really landing anymore.

I think it's nothing new. And I've always thought the hype surrounding Prada was bigger than its actual impact on their models' careers. Sure, some of them did extremely well after debuting there, I can't deny it. But also how many others, labeled as Prada-girls didn't match the expectations? Remember Adina Forizs, Naty Chabanenko, Auguste etc. Meanwhile some models started with C-list shows like Viktoriya Sasonkina or Eniko Mihalik, some were doing catalogue jobs in Milan like Aymeline Valade, and their careers turned well. I love the excitement and even the speculation going on here when it comes to coveted shows but I think I like even more playing the gold digger, watching less popular shows, looking at what smaller agencies propose etc. to find who has potential to do really well in the future.

This being said, I didn't find Prada's casting irrelevant this season. It had some big flaws but also its fair share of nice surprises and new faces weren't all the rage as it was sometimes, even years before Ashley's era. Maybe it's just me but so far, I'm not disappointed with the shows this time and I'm highly anticipating Paris this week. What bothers me more is the current situation of magazines like Vogue. What do they have to offer to new faces or rising stars once the show season is over? Then campaigns? I see some improvement over previous seasons but some big brands are still irrelevant in terms of "model" choices.

I think the main problem these days with these newfaces is that they’re not “versatile” enough, what do i mean by that? Well just look at the latest Prada opener, she looks like she only belongs in that Prada show and that’s it. I can’t see her at Saint Laurent, or at Vuitton, cause they have a very specific aesthetic therefore they only end up booking their WW exclusive or city exclusive and they’re done by next season. Back in the days girls would fit a huge variety of shows and looks, and aesthetics, and that’s why models from many years back like Julia Nobis, Imaan, Mica, Lineisy, Kiki, Vittoria, etc are still going so strong.

The thing with shows like Prada is that people, even the most demanding like us, is that we put too much emphasis on who will open or will book it as exclusive. But besides, there are models who also walk the show (thinking of London Scully this season) who totally fit in and have possibilities after it.
The models you mention are still doing great years after, and I'm the very first to be glad about that fact. But, if you dig deeper, there are many newcomer that have the potential and versatility to make it further.
I want to end this on a positive note, though. It might just be a feeling but the heyday(s) of so-called models out of famous families are soon to be over. People, especially young aspiring models, will dream of cinderellas again. Then being a new face on the right track will make more sense again too.

Immediately, while reading these posts, Kris Grikaite came to my mind: she has been the last Prada girl in the way we used to intend a fashion house sticked to a particular model.
Then, after some great seasons (she became a Versace and Chanel fav also) she almost disappeared.

Wouldn't be surprised if her previous relationship with Hugo Compte had anything to do with that.

Luna Passos is also having a tough season... by the way, that hair cut did not help outside ysl

I'm with you on this one. I miss the Russell Marsh era. He knows how to make a girl a star. You see Gemma, Daria, Missy, Stam, Elise, Julia S etc... they are the faces that you instantly remember and want to see more... and lets not forget the transformation of Shannan Click. As for Ashley's girls, 80% of them are just very forgettable and replaceable.

While it would be hard to disagree Prada could launch a career during Russell's days, it was also quite often a hit or a miss. I mentioned before the case of Adina Forizs who opened a cast with (too) many exclusives and almost none of them able to make it for various reasons (from lack of modeling skills to unavailability due to age etc.). And while nostalgia knocks at my door quite often too (my passion for fashion models grew up during this era), I won't let it win me over.

It kind of annoyed me that Prada gave Rolf Schrader, one of the girls they’ve launched over the past few years who is successful and versatile, a very dramatic cropped haircut; she totally pulls it off, but it is a haircut that might limit her appeal. Hopefully she’ll bag a campaign in return.

Two girls that caught my attention at Dior: Thalita Gomes and Michelle Meyer ❤️ the first one has a strong walk

Need to double check Thalita again but Michelle (Michi as IMG calls her) is stunning!

I think i spotted Alek Wek at Saint Laurent, other than that what a boring cast.

I liked Saint Laurent's cast, didn't find it boring at all. The sunglasses were heavily annoying though!
