Model Casting S/S 11

I won't comment on the Burberry casting (mainly because I haven't had a good look at the actual models), but I've most of the liked the LFW casting so far.:D It's fab to see Jessica Hart on the runway and Barbara seemed to do better in London than NY.

Giles casting is god awful -> Kelly Brook. She's not even a model. She's an "actress". Abbey Clancy is an actual model so I don't mind and Janice is a former super turned fame wh*re, I suppose. If I were a designer I would never let Katie Grand anywhere near my cast for a show.:ninja:

yeah Burberrys casting was weak... the best girls are in Milan already :p

Well, this would explain a lot on Burberry's poor casting.

Although te big Spring 2011 Burberry model story includes Burberry face Nina Porter's much Tweeted runway fall while closing, industry insiders are buzzing about something else. According to rumors, last night, Gucci demanded all girls cast in their show fly into Milan, pronto. That means Burberry's usual all-star London lineup — Freja Beha Erichsen and Lily Donaldson among them — were already gone; Burberry did nab Jourdan Dunn and Lisanne De Jong, however. it'll be interesting to see if the girls who were at burberry today will be able to make it to the gucci runway tomorrow. time's a bit tight!

the burberry casting itself was very weak, both in quantity and quality (lisanne and some other girls had 3 outfits, as opposed to one look per model in some other top shows)

can't wait for milan tomorrow, finally we're getting to the shows that really matter

edit:  apparently they're not doing gucci then....now I'm wondering if both Gucci and Burberry are still both being casted by Barbara Nicoli

^They are both by Barbara still (But of course Frida has more say in Gucci's case than compared to Christopher for Burberry) - I feel bad for her trying to juggle two huge, competing shows two days in a row, really!

^ thank you for the info :)
Judging from the Burberry cast, I'd say Gucci is getting the better girls....

Why would they do that? I can definitely see them making that demand a while back if the models were needed for fittings and rehearsals, but why do it at the proverbial last minute(?)... perhaps we will know when we see the actual show.

Also, I can see Freja complying, but why would Lily comply since she is currently one of the faces of Burberry - I know that both of them have gotten Gucci campaigns before. Is Gucci that powerful and lucrative(?) - IIRC, I think it is one of the biggest luxury brands if not the biggest and is also part of a conglomerate that includes other brands and I am wondering if that was a factor?

So why would frida have a bigger say in her castings then Christian? They are both in charge .Burberry's casting director isnt more powerful that the headdesigner?

I already knew (well...or were pretty sure) that the usual girls @ Burberry are in Milan for the Gucci show already.
And naw, I really don't think that one girl will manage it to do both. It's not even one day between these two shows!

And I think if Gucci requests the girls, they wouldn't say no. If they really put a lot of effort in it to get the girls, why should they complain?

I don't feel that it necessarily is about Gucci getting the better girls. Many of the usual girls like Freja and Lily were not present during LFW at all. It's just a matter of prioritizing. London before was not seen as such a huge casting place for girls but newer girls have been doing really well there and "getting discovered" there as well. All in all, one has to remember that this is a business and this is a job for the models. I'm sure that getting specially requested for a show for casting is also economically profitable.

I think the cast at Burberry was wonderful. Most of the girls fit the collection wonderfully. Edgy, rocked out girls like Ming Xi, Amanda Norgaard, Melissa Tammerijn, Julia Nobis, Mirte Maas and Jenny Sinkaberg contrasted to the classically beautful girls like Jourdan Dunn, Lisanne de Jong, Pauline Serreau, Shu Pei and Rasa Zukauskaite.
This contrasts with the very essence of the show: That British punk feeling vs the classical Burberry essence. Casting had to reflect the same.

Just because the usual girls don't walk a show, it doesn't make it a weak cast. Seasons pass and new usual girls emerge.

it certainly does not but if the new girls are weak then the cast is weak.

I see your point but there weren't that many completely new girls anyways. I still see some of the named above who are mostly second season new girls as strong girls with tremendous potentials and great agencies to back them up.

I will agree that it wasn't the strongest cast and that Nina Porter although incredibly stunning on print was awkward on the runway yet it was far from a weak cast in my eyes.

Could anybody tell me what shows in New York and London Russell Marsh casted? I know of some but I also know that things change so...now that the shows are over someone might know. Thanks in advance!

^BCBG, Herve Leger, Max Azria, Philosophy, ACNE, Richard Nicoll, Christopher Kane, Jaeger London, Jonathan Saunders

Burberry's cast may have been mostly newbies and unfortunately most of them couldn't walk, but I thought face-wise, they were all perfect for the show and in that regard I don't think it was a weak cat. Other than a couple, which I could take or leave, most of the girls looked IDEAL for Burberry.

exclusive talk:

The beautiful Bambi Northwood-Blyth stopped by the Vogue Offices this morning, and chatted 10 to the dozen about tattoos, travel and exclusives.

She’s following up her Katie Grand exclusive in London (only walking Giles and Topshop) with a Balenciaga exclusive in Paris.

2011 promises to be a big one for this young Aussie.

^Good for Bambi! She hands-down fits the look this season - I believe it's rocker chic (With possible drastic hair modifications come show day...)

Guido Palau will cut, no? As far as i know Stella T has been Nicolas inspiration for that entire thing, and Bambi might share the fate with 9 other girls if plans didn't change. :innocent:

Good for Bambi indeed...and her look does fit the season. But seriously, it is SO painful to see her walking down the runway. It has to be one of the worst walks ever, so that rock personality that she has in her beauty does not translate at all in her runway presence.
