Model's Age - How Young Is Too Young?

Guess it's just a mod misunderstanding.

Made me quite annoyed for a second there - I thought it was one more thing that had to be censored.

Agencies/models lie all the time about their age so it's good to be able to have the record set straight.

^Which makes no sense at all. I doubt that you cannot have a strong first season when you're 22yo and have the look. Iris Strubegger for example started when she was 26yo @ fashion week in Paris, she turns 30 next year and still is in great demand, to be exact in a better demand than most younger faces who firstfaced on the runway in ss08 as well...

And somehow, there are more young than "mature" girls who flop after their first season.

uhm.... it's kinda annoying to me when people say that about iris,
she started when she was like 18, and she walked for major brands, so she just "made a comeback"
not that i care about iris

^^ "walked for major brands"... she walked one time: Calvin Klein in 2002, that's it. She was even refused by some agencies due to her age in 2007.

the mod doesn't want Iris's age in her thread?

...

I doubt any of the models who are under 16, 16 or even 18 who have been naked in fashion magazines were sexually exploited. Whether they will later regret posing naked is a different issue. However that can happen to a person of any age. To get a break you will be delighted to go naked, when you have a million dollar contract you might regret it but you may never have got that contract if you didn't do everything needed to get to the top.

Think how much Tiger Wood's wife would have regretted it. She did maybe two test shoots in a bathing suit (as far as I can tell, since the same pictures are always used) and she gets tarred with the "former model" label as a smear. If she had done a nude shoot it would literally be everywhere by now.

That is an extreme example, but now that many girls can expect to go on to a real job after modeling instead of marriage and kids, some nude pictures might be a handicap. Or not. People just have to consider these things.

Personally, I think models can start as young as they feel is appropriate, especially if they're working jobs that don't require them to compromise their health or morals. Miranda Kerr had her first modelling job in Dolly when she was two weeks shy of fourteen, and it caused a bit of a furore even though she was only modelling young girls' clothes in a teen magazine. She wasn't doing high-fashion jobs or posing for Victoria's Secret (which, for all its tackiness, should be lauded for choosing to only hire models over the age of 18) back then.
But full-time high-fashion modelling is really a different cup of tea altogether- it's a world of pressure on a model of any age (worries about retaining a hip circumference of 34 inches, about booking enough work, about being talked into taking one's clothes off for people who insist it's "art" and then don't treat one with respect, in order to book work), and even though it's bad enough for a 16-year-old, I'd draw the line at 13, or maybe 14. I know many models use their income to support their families, or came from poor backgrounds- but it's still unfair to them.

Also, if anyone says 18 is too old to start or that by the time you're past 21 you're too old to model, that is rubbish. Sasha Pivovarova didn't even send photographs of herself to an agency till she was 19. Elise Crombez was scouted at 18 (as was (back in prehistoric, pre-Internet days, if that means anything now- Claudia Schiffer, and even Cindy Crawford didn't begin modelling till she was 20). Lara Stone spent five years knocking around the model circuit and not booking jobs until Ricardo Tisci put her in the Givenchy couture show when she was 22. It's not even really a matter of age, I feel- if your look is liked well enough by a photographer/editor/designer who has some influence in the industry, it's not impossible to make a success of modelling no matter what your age is. There's no real justification for rushing a girl of whatever age into high-fashion modelling if she isn't ready for it.

Frida was about 14 years old in these pics...

It was a general question - and - answer

Paws:
You really shouldn't group the mums altogether like that.
I am sure some may be like that but certainly not all.

Ok, then . But could you tell me then why a mother allows her 14 year old daughter to pose in front of an old photographer nude ?

Oh, sure its "art"
How could i forget?
