Personal must-haves for F/W 07.08

pucci
i read the article and searched google for images....
but-
i still don't get the whole 'pelmet' thing...
does it mean micromini?...or sort of egg shaped?...

laika...
i'll get some pics posted then...
but they are really still hard to see ....being all black you know...

btw---
has anybody been checking out the marni.com site...??

i found these which make me drool...
:ninja:

It's kinda egg shaped.. it goes out then cut off!

That sounds really odd.. but it's exactly like the skirt I posted and miu miu always does them.:flower:

^^...i know the miu miu ones you are talking about...

funny-
never EVER came across that word anywhere...

...
does it usually refer to a schoolgirl's uniform?

lucky--
:o
sneaky sneaky...shopping behind our backs...:judge:...

..
i saw that red top...
everything about it is perfect......
i marked it...i love it...

didn't see the skirt...looks like it will be very flattering and elegant...
not to mention comfy...

^_^

I guess its just a word that is made by the high street, it is always a short skirt, and I always call them pelmet when they flare out a bit...I know it when I see it.

But I don't really know the clear difference between a pelmet skirt and a bubble skirt... Sorry I'm not much of much help.

and neither are black...

I think the "pelmet" is similar to a balloon skirt, right? at least that is what I am getting from the description.

^ I am familiar with the word, but only in the context of window treatments  I guess it's a British thing?

yes... similar but I always thought balloon skirts was way more flared.

Edit: yes.. I think its a British thing or a word invented by the high street...

i don't know what a balloon skirt is either really......isn't it like a bubble skirt?
i thought that was the same...
and now people run on about the egg shape or the tulip shape...

when people start making up new words for things it makes it harder to communicate...

....

egg is more round and tulip flares in at the end of the knee? I know we (say London) use the word pelmet and I did not really think tulip/egg/balloon was suitable for the shape skirt I meant.

Yes it is indeed very confusing, what shape would you call your skirt soft?

Lucky, I love it all...! That shade of orange is perfect. The Junya top will work well with l/s tops and both trousers and skirts. It's punk-y, too.

Good stuff! You're a 'good girl' in my book. :P

all 3 were super reasonable witht the 15% discount yoox gave me.

wiw, it is punky and very bold. I was thinking of layering it with the black turtleneck since it has super long sleeves.

multi, I know the boots you are talking about, the pointy toe ones. junya did some very wearable menswear this season. I like the leather men's jackets much more than the womens versions.

dandy, this thread is a tease isn't it?

is this it?
bubble and balloon are the same, straight at the hip, flares out and gathers under at the hem to form a poufy shape.
tulip is flared from the hip to the hem.
egg is round and scoops under at the hem like the bubble/balloon.

I think laika's, pucci's and soft's skirt are pelmet's based on the description.

Ok this is going real fast, I nearly missed this!

I can compete with Dries! :P

you, darling, can compete anytime.

:P

lucky, you are indefatigable.

the marni pieces are great, super versatile. I can even imagine them together. The red top is super good. And that Junya piece is so fantastic--I didn't even see it! You must teach me your shopping secrets....

pucci, thanks for the explanation. What would you call this skirt then?
I really like it. :ninja:

that looks like a 'deflated balloon'......
and i like it a lot too...
going to see if i can find it in london to try on..

i just call my skirt a full mini

Oh wow, I missed those Marni boots!

Those are really, really good, imo....

They remind me of my Ann Dem motorcycle boots, except my Ann boots are shorter.

I wear them constantly...love them with a short skirt.

i should probably wear my demeulemeester boots more...
but they just feel too 'chunky' with a skirt for me...

i should probably get rid of them and buy something like the marnis that i would get more use from...
the fact that i have those two demeulemeesters stops me from buying new flat black boots...
-well...that and the fact that it's tough to fit my narrow legs...
...

*the website even says that the marnis are a 'slouchy' fit...
slightly wide in the leg...
so i am sure they wouldn't work for me...

i still think they are amazing though...^_^...

very nice multititudes...
i might have worn them in my former life when i was channeling elvis...
:brows:...

i'd still love to play with them...
i think they are really fun...

:P

i have decided that i need to be more selective...

the fact that things seem to sell out so quickly causes a sort of shopping hysteria...
i buy things sometimes without careful consideration because i am afraid if i stop to think about it...it will be gone and then it won't matter -the decision is made for me..which is NOT ok...
:judge:

but i don't think this is a good thing and i wind up returning so many things after i settle down to think about it or have another look at what is already in my closet...

oh yes please...
i'm very curious now!...thanks laika!

:woot:

Re: the IM skirt....I finally got a chance to look at it again and it is basically identical to yours. The color is the same as on the runway; and the only variation is that the snaps have little buttons over them. So not as exciting an option as the VB skirt, I think, since you already have the same style. :flower:

I wonder if we have/could have a thread on shopping strategies? Because I completely agree about the hysteria thing....it's very stressful not knowing what will sell out and what will be leftover come sale time. I hate "the one that got away" but I also hate seeing things marked down when i've payed full price. :ermm:

....Multi, those are some cool boots. B)

*I am now making myself laugh by picturing my short self with feet that long.
