I was going to get mine done. I first wanted it done when I was about 14. My parents would not let me have it done until I was 16.

When I turned 16, they asked if I still wanted to get it done, but I kept chickening out. I am terrified of needles!!

I spoke to some people when I was at school about it, and they ranged from saying it hurt more than anything they have ever experienced, to saying they did not even feel it. Useful huh?

Anyway, I thought a bit more about it, and after reading some articles on it, and asking people, I decided against it.

I heard far too much about infections, pain, them getting ripped out, the amount of care you have to take with them.

I decided that I would probably get bored of it anyway, and I was not that sure I was all that keen on having a hooked stabbed through my flesh.

I dont really like piecing, I mean on some people they look really nice, but I never took to them. I dont even have my ears pieced anymore. I use to when I was about 11 but I got annoyed with them so i just took them out and never put them in again.

I think if you really want it done, go for it.

By the way, how old are you? I was told by many body piercers not to get my Belly Button done until I was over 16, because your body is still growing and if you have it pierced your skin will stretch were the piercing is. Attractive!

Also, in reply to your other post.

If you have a bar or a hoop done first time, you should still tape it with some medical tape when you first go back to school when you are doing P.E just in case you catch it on something. That way, if the tape is there it cant catch. Also, you will probably be quite sore for a couple of days so stuff like Gymnastics will probably be out of the question. Other than that, you should be fine as long as you take care of it.

wow i never heard of that' shouldnt get it till your over 16,as your body is still growing'buisness,i dont think that really affects it does it :S anyway,i dont know weather to get it done now,or in the 6 weeks holidays so it has time to settle.another thing.. (im all questions, soory),i live in birmingham so does any1 know any good places to get it dun?

im 13 by the way,14 in september

Well I was told that stuff about your body is still growing. Im not sure if it is true, but I guess, as you grow your skin obviously grows. So if you do have a piercing I guess it must stretch the skin too. I am not sure.

It would probably be best to get it done in the summer holidays because then it would give it more time to heel. Also, as it will be summer, you will be able to expose your belly button more, as if it was colder your layers might rub on it and iritate it. If you see what I mean.

Oh and also, I live in Norwich. When I wanted to get mine done, I just went on www.yell.com and typed in the information, and it found a lot for me. You can just go in and speak to them if you want, ask them how safe it is, look around, see if everything looks clean, etc etc. If they are a respectable place, they wont mind helping you with your queries.

yeh i guess its common sense to get it dun in the hols ent it really,i suppose it ent that bad!! its only 3 and a half months!! and in the meantime i can sort out my body and tone up ma stomache so it will look super nice!! and ill be wearin belly tops everyday!! even if its rainin!! hehe (a little over-exaggeration there)

when your getting it done make sure the piercer uses new needles etc and takes them out of the sterilised packets infront of you so you know they are clean. and dont hesitate to ask the piercer any questions thats what they are there for. and will be glad to help you. plus if you have any troubles go back to them to ask for advice. if you do everything that they say it should be fine.

plus if you get sick of it and take it out it should heal up and leave a small scar.

enjoy your piercing if you get it done:flower:

yeah i think they are a good place where im having it dun, because my cousion has it done a few months ago there, and so far so good (touch wood) so yeah they seem a decent place.

Oh and im definately having it dun!!!! :D

I got mine done when I was 17. It feels like a bee sting. I have real cute jeweled barbell in it now, but otherwise, I kind of forget about it. I'm little and skinny, but I just never show off my stomach anymore. I'll keep it for a while. THe closer to bone and teh thicker the skin the more it will hurt. And always make sure you go to a reputable place. The should MAKE you get a plain silver hoop/barbell at first and use a needle straight out of the packaging. I went to a dirty place and I'm surprised I never got an infection. Go to the shop a few times and ask to see them do it. If they're good, they'll let you.

i got mine pierced when i was 20, and it didn't hurt at all. the place i went to inspected my navel first (there needs to be enough skin above the belly button for the piercing to go through and stay there). the guy wiped the area with iodine, and marked where he was going to pierce with a sharpie. he told me to count to three and then take a deep breath in. it was more like a pinch than anything else. it was hard to bend for the first few days, but nothing super painful. they recommended i clean it twice a day with lever 2000 antibacterial liquid soap, getting lather on the hoop and turning it through the hole.

i agree with the people here: find a reputable place and ask questions if you're unsure of something. alot of my friends went to the place i did, and they were rated the best in the city.

Laura4eva, a really good place to get it done in Birmingham is LIVING CANVAS TATTOO.

They are fully health registered, they are on 58, High Street, Kings Heath.

Maybe you could try there?

oh yeah i think ive heard of that... i was going to get it done in 'the swan' in yardly where my cuz had it,and she ent had no problems, but i guess i mite aswell go there as its fully health checked and everythin,do you have any idea what the price there is for it?

Personally, I think 13 is a bit young for a piercing like that- wait a few years until you have matured some. If you still want it when you're 16 get it, but you may decide you don't...

i know loads of people who have got it dun around 12,13,14.I dont find it young.Well i really want it done anyway so i dont really mind.DO you have an idea on what the price is like at the living canvas tatoo place, kimbyanne?

agreed :ninja:

I got mine like a year ago, and I didn't felt anything.
2 or 3 months later it was a little infected, but it doesn't hurt in any moment, and healed quicky, so don't be afraid of pain ^_^

I recommend getting a hoop when u get it done because its easier to clean then with a barbell. Like I said, the only belly piercing that hurt LIKE A MOFO was the bottom, but the top didn't hurt me AT ALL. Not even after. I had gotten a minor infection, but it barely even hurt. I guess it just depends on some people.

i was told to get a barbell to start with,as it will cause less infection than a dangly one or sometihn cus it wont move around and so on.I suppose ill just see when i get it dun :) but its not for another 3/4 months yet so..
