:woot: wow!!! i LOVE these clothes! is this a new brand, i've never heard of it before. i want to know more about it

I'd heard of this group before and thought it was an awesome. I wish they'd cast afield for a Missourian, 'cause I'd be dead chuffed to get paid to sew more regularly.

I've seen Project Alabama in Barneys Co-op LA before. The clothes had a really hand-constructed feel to them [in a good way] but the prices were in no way justified, especially for Co-op! A heavy tee shirt with tee shirt patchwork and deconstruction on it was $600 - $700.

Vogue Magazine calls the look "Haute homespun out of the Deep South." In 2000, Natalie Chanin and Enrico Marone-Cinzano paired up to create Project Alabama. Chanin is originally an Alabama native whose fashion career has taken her around the world. She found success, however, returning to her roots in Fayette, Alabama. Chanin and Marone-Cinzano began Project Alabama by recruiting women in Alabama to help sew one of a kind, handmade garments. Project Alabama designers partner with budding artists to create true couture that is original and fresh. Project Alabama garments can range from $300 to $3,000. The company began in 2000 and is already projecting sales in excess of $2 million for the 2004 year.

I like there clothes, but so expensive  , but it's very pretty stuff

I concur with Seraphelle. I like alot of this but its always been my complaint since its inception that those prices are beyond appalling. At L'Eclaireur in Paris some of their stuff was/is sold at 1000$! I mean,t'shirts with just stitching and patchworking-I know it's alot of hard work, but most designers who involve a bit more substance in craft like tailoring and dressmaking skills don't even charge this much.

Btw,they are based only a couple hours from me. I'd been thinking of seeing if I can pay them a visit but...I dunno.

you should offer them your styling skills

expensive indeed.
so it seems that they launched a machine-made line called Project Alabama Machine.
it sells for one third the price.
but it might be expensive, all the same.

Exactly my thought. But I'm already trying that with my own handworked pieces. Plus,I don't think anybody round here can quite savor my imagination  I tell you some of those pictures of those people gave me nightmares...only joking of course(NOT!)

Runner, one would think with all the complaints of the gouging prices, they would have just lowered it a bit.

Your fellow "Missourians" wish they would too! :flower: You would be great on a project like this!

i feel for you, tenesse is ascarey place :innocent:

I think I saw this in a girly (like some teen mag like YM or something) a couple years back and really liked their work back then. Though from what you say of the prices...insane. Anyone have pics of the machine line?

Prices are high, but some of the work is incredible. God bless em if they can find people to buy it. The purple jacket and purple applique skirt are fantastiK!!! I could see the big money for those pieces. Must take them a month to do.

thanks for the info and website, runner. if course, if the prices are that high, my dreams are dashed >___<
