Just finished watching the fifth episode and wow, Matthew's stock really plummeted in the space of two episodes! He was the golden boy in the first three episodes even if his designs for the garden party and frisky challenges were very similar but wham! Now he's someone out of his league and looked upon with some askance by some like Renato. He's also a rather immature 20-yr old to boot if his confessionals are anything to go by ("They're jealous of me and Ana who are so perfect together which is why they separated us!"). If he lasts any longer in this competition, he'd be the unlikely villain of the season.
I'm sad that Gemma went because Matthew's design was boring, looked unfinished and badly sewn, and uninspiring. At least Gemma's design, while not exactly the prettiest thing I've seen, had some quirkiness in it that I liked. Maybe somewhere out there there is a modern-day druidess who would love to get married in some forest glen in Gemma's creation, who knows? I can't think anyone who would want to caught dead in Matthew's creation.
Also, what can Gemma do, exactly? Her model wanted Princess Fiona from Shrek. Did the judges expect Gemma to steamroller the model, gag her up, or ignore her and create something more to her liking? In the first season of US's Project Runway from which this challenge was "borrowed" from, Nora was screwed just like Gemma was when Nora's model wanted a very conventional dress and Nora was booted anyway after doing her best to make the dress as unconventional as possible without getting her model to throw a teary hissyfit on the show.
This is the second episode in a row where I really feel that the weakest link (Matthew!) should have gone but didn't. If Project Catwalk want to "borrow" challenges from the US version in the future, I really hope they borrow some of the better-designed challenges, like the recent "Inspiration" one where the contestants design a dress inspired by a photo they take about town.
