I was so disappointed with the final decision. One of the things that contributed to Chloe's win last year was that the judges felt she had a good business sense and would be marketable and profitable. Then last night, they rave about how sooooo many women would want to buy Uli's clothes, and how people were already interested in working with her......but it ends up going to Jeffrey, whose designs would work best in a boutique and not many places else. Can you imagine him working with mentors from INC.? It would be one of the least beneficial relationships I can think of. He'll probably be like Jay and decline the offer of the mentorship. And his shoes were not only ugly on their own, they completely and totally ruined any chance the outfits had in my book. They ruined every look because they simply didn't match the style. His choice of music was an especially poor match to the feel of the clothing as well.

Michael was my favorite all season, but his runway collection was so wrong. I think he would succeed working at an already established house, where he can be given some parameters to work within, since he excelled in the challenges when he had some constraints and parameters to his work.

Laura's clothes were much more impressive on the runway than throughout the competition. She is the one who would fit in with a company like INC. You could easily imagine her clothes in Macy's or Barney's. And her husband looks so skeevy! I can't imagine having 5 kids with a guy who looks like that. Yuck.

I was completely flabbergasted when Jeffrey won... to be honest, when he first presented, I kind of liked his collection - there were some amazing pieces (paired with some horrible ones; ie: those ridiculous dresses!). However, once everyone else showed (Uli and Laura) I completely forgot about Jeffrey's pieces! That's how forgettable they were. Granted, he used the most colors and styles... however, as many people have already mentioned, his style is only marketable to a certain demographic.... you can hardly expect the masses to be wearing fashion like that on the streets on NYC, LA, Paris, Milan.
I thought Laura's collection was gorgeous, absolutely NY, though I didnt think she would win because it was all a little too dark. There wasnt much color on the runway, and that fur stole thing with her long dress was just too somber. Btw, what happened to that beautiful long red gown she showed on the episode before the runway show- with all the beading on the inside? That certainly would've livened up the runway a little... if she'd youthed that up a little, it could've done wonders to her collection.

With Uli, I was ridiculously impressed. While I liked her for a peace-loving personality on the show, I never thought she'd win and I certainly couldnt picture myself wearing her clothing - they were all too Miami and showy for me. However, she brought it to the runway show. I could see myself wearing almost every single piece, and the way her outfits flowed.... BEAUTIFUL. I was so incredibly impressed with her! She really showed some maturity, particularly with her use of solids and different aesthetics.

Michael... ohhh, Michael? What is there to say? I was excited going in... "of course he'll be amazing, it's Michael!" and to be honest, much to the detriment of many of you, I'm sure, I LOVED his final safari dress- the long print.... dont know why, just loved it. However the rest of it? Hot pants, 70s, Kimora Lee Simmons on speed. I couldnt handle it. Guess that's why he was the first one gone.

That being said, there's a market for all their clothes, I'm sure. Michael will pair up with Baby Phat, Laura will continue to produce high-end dresses for boutiques and/or Saks (which I will waste no time in investing in!), Uli will appeal to lots and lots of women (hopefully she wont revert back to the only-prints dresses, and will continue to use solids and make separates), and Jeffrey - well, he's already got a market in LA, and I see it expanding to London, at most.

i agree completely...
i wasn't impressed with uli at all during the show, but she really stepped it up the last few challenges and with her collection...
every piece was beautiful and she really pushed herself out of her comfort zone without compromising her aesthetic...
and what about the cool dress with the bikini underneath?
the way the model took the coverup off was great!

when jeffrey's stuff was coming down the runway, i kept naming designers that the pieces were reminiscent of (the red polka dots were very marc, the long gown was kinda proenza schouler, the green stripes were balenciaga, etc.)...
i know to some people think it's very innovative, but it's really not...
using zippers as piping on a dress? come on...

it's also disappointing that they chose jeffrey since he already has a line that's available and has a celeb clientele...
the other designers were more worthy of a push to help them with their collections...

I agree with that, but I think i was the judges who saw him as inovative, at least in comparison with the other designers. Although, we could play the comparison game with all of them, but that also brings the age of art question of is there such thing as a new idea or are they all reinterpretations of influances.

Laura: Oscar, Valentino, Ralph Lauren
Uli: Diane VonFurstenburg, Mathew Williamson
Michael: Baby Phat, Gucci, Sean John
Jeffery: Luella, Marc, Vivian Westwood, etc.

Is there any such thing as a "new" idea?

okay I am sooo sorry. my style is insanely weird and I like everyone else was rooting for Mike, but seriosuly, he messed up. It's as if drunk P. Diddy was invoked and then, the few innovative or chic clothes he had were barfed on by Kimora Lee Simmons. It was "fabulous" but tacky. If you are not Beyonce you cannot wear it. Laura is too Blah, fuddy duddy- beautiful fuddy duddy, but fiddy duddy. and uli, ula- what ever. i have hated her since she stole Mike's muse and model and essentiall scred over nto only Michael but the model. Jeffrey was amazing. you can wear some of hsi stuff and not be a rocker chick. YES<

What happened between Laura and Michael's model?? I must have missed that one.

And it's funny... I said the same thing about beyonce to my friend last night!

I don't think anything happened between Laura and Michael regarding models. I think she was referring to when Uli took Nazri from Michael when they did model selection a few shows ago.

Kimair, I couldnt agree more! I kept thinking with Jeffrey's collection... "I've seen this before, I've seen this before"
While fashion is all about reinterpretation of the greats, when you're designing to be "different" or to "express a point of view" as Jeffrey is ALWAYS reminding us he does, then you should have something new to say. People like Laura, you expect to just be updating the classics, because she doesnt claim to have all this amazing new aesthetics and styles to show off. Jeffrey does, which is why I dont find him very innovative - I've seen his stuff before, just in different colors and lengths.

And yes, the other designers could've used the money more towards establishing themselves.... though I don't feel Michael deserved it, and Laura, no matter what, will be okay - I'm sure she'll be contacted by Park Ave. ladies to make one of a kind pieces for them... Uli, I think, could've used the winnings the most. Oh, and yes, I LOVED Uli's bikini dress thing... I have Tivo and my sister and I just kept rewinding to look at it over and over.

It might just have been the way I saw it, but I really liked that the bikini coverup didn't cover the top, but rather attatched to it. I thought it was a fabulous idea.

Agreed 100%. They kept saying..."Oh Jeffery! You are SO innovative and SO edgy!" I disagree. He's nothing new. To me, his point of view is unattractive and hardly edgy....I think they think his clothes are edgy because HE is edgy (supposedly....). And the first part of the collection was really just plain ugly. That first dress was just terrible as were the rest of the evening stuff.

And then, what confused me even more was how the judges said "we saw great range in your show." But....just minutes before they said that they HATED his evening wear (I don't blame 'em)! It just wasn't a consistant, coherent collection...even though I didn't like Michael's, it was FAR more cohesive than Jeffery's.....purple florals? Red polka dots? Green stripes? With a genius...it could have worked....but Jeffery's no design genius.

I agree...and I've seen zippers used as piping before. It doesn't seem all that innovative to me.

I like Jeffrey but I agree his designs don't seem like they would fit into higher end stores, BUT he could design more and expand his line of thought and deisign.

But I liked him.

this is what i was trying to say sarah13...
sure everything in fashion is influenced by something else, but jeffrey kept claiming this "innovation" and "edginess," but i didn't see any of that...
i just kept seeing a very jumbled collection of a bunch of different aesthetics...
and michael kors' statement of "dressing a girl at each stage of her life?"
i doubt the girl that wears a green striped jacket, sequined tank and skinny white leather pants is going to wear a red polkadot sundress...
(but i could be wrong...)
