Project Runway

i really liked the model morgan that left this week ... she was def my fav model and i was sad to see her go ... even though she was kinda crazy sometimes, she had so much more personality than the other models ... plus i think she walked the best too ...

and kevin just seemed too softspoken to make it ... like last week with the bathing suit that no one really thought looked like a bathing suit ... i really liked it ... but when the judges asked him questions he got all flustered ...

im totally addicted to the show.

I think I've seen Morgan on the runway for Nicole Miller and Jill Stuart.

By the way -- have any of you noticed that little notice of disclosure they flash on the screen at the end of the show?? They throw it up there for about 1.5 seconds. It says basically(paraphrased) that the judges consider the designers scores, and INPUT FROM THE PROJECT RUNWAY PRODUCERS in their evaluations.

Actually most of these reality shows have that disclaimer. The producers input was most evident (or at least most visible) in this last years Last Comic Standing, where two very talented comics, clearly better than the others, were dropped from the show in favor of two horribly hack comics who were "omerosa-esque". Drew Cary and Brett Butler even walked off the show momentarily in outrage.

Here's an article:

Project runway is produced by the weinsteins, they are notorious for exploiting people and r*ping anything artisitic, just like what everyones complaining about.

I think though, that this particular show, could have been produced with a positive slant, and I think it possibly could have been a bigger and more lasting show had they not forced the negativity.

Like the old queen who comes by to check their work during the production portion of the show, didnt he seem meaner than usual last night? I can just see the producers outside that sewing room telling him to go in there and stir up some drama!

I think it'll be Kara/Jay/Austin in the final three, obviously. I'm pulling for Kara on skill but I could see Jay winning on personality. Austin needs a few more years and he'll be everywhere I bet. When he's Kara's age, I'd like to compare their works.

One last thing re: the whole drama everyone's hating on: is editing. These shows, as im sure everyone knows but no ones mentioned yet, generate so much footage, and we only see about 35 minutes of it, that you can literally construct complete archtypical characters out of peoples lives. You could follow anyone around for a few days and make them seem saintly, or caty, or insipid, or bright, crazy or shallow. Hrm, here's an example off the top of my head: If I follow you around just for one day while you volunteer your time with homeless children, I would have footage of you donating your time to children as well as you eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, possibly a snack or two, a piece of gum, and maybe a lone snapple or something throughout the day. I can then edit your entire day of saintly self sacrifice into a quick montage of you pigging out, then show some slowly panning shots of a couple of hungry homeless kids, and voila, you won't be able to go out in public, and I am not slandering or comitting lible.

So, knowing that, I watch the show for the designs and the atmosphere, etc. and just kinda tune out the drama and roll my eyes with it. I think Jay keeps letting little things slip regarding this whole drama, even to the point where he told that old mean guy, I hate this lying or something to that effect.

I love this show! * 8 )

david thats a good bit of info about the last comic standing. I've never watched reality shows so i didnt expect it to be such a scam. But one reason this is especially wrong is when its a competition based on someones vocation, their livelihood. Shows like survivor I completely expect to be ficticious dramas, but a competition to find a designer? Bad.

On another note, yes youre right that editing can make someone like Wendy appear especially calloused and conniving...an example is the shot of her smirking and shrugging after Kevin was eliminated and was saying his goodbyes. They edited that shot in to the sequence twice...thus manipulating the audience...and who really knows the context when that was actually shot, it could have been an unrelated moment. However, one thing I know about video editing and storytelling -- you cant completely fabricate a storyline that doesnt even exist. At the very base of all this Wendy said on camera that she will look for ways to keep the others down. That was at the beginning of the series. Her attitude is also probably the reason she was chosen to be on the show...they need a common enemy for us to hate.

oh, im not advocating the scaminess! I just had already seen this phenomenon on the apprentice, and last comic standing (only reality shows I've seen really) and so wasnt taken a back by it this time like I was during last comic standing. These producers are really pure scum in my book.

I guess the only point I'd like to make, is that this show didnt need to be pejorative. While I dont think something like the Apprentice could be successful without the in fighting etc., I think had the producers actually pushed this show to be what it was ostensibly supposed to be, it could have become something ground breaking.

For instance, in queer eye, which to me shows how a reality show can be produced in a positive manner, they have these tips and stuff that pop up, like how to put up wall paper, or keep cheeses fresh, etc. But in PR, we never really learn anything as an audience, its not really a show about fashion, it could be about any skilled trade. I think it would have been a more interesting and longer lasting concept for a show, if they went into the fashion world, and explained about detailing and fabric, and inspiration etc. I have no fashion experience what so ever though, and was drawn to this site to begin learning the basics of fashion etc. so my point of view is wholly outside of this industry.

I really hope they do another season though (if they arent already) and learn from what was weird, like the whole model sub-plot. It felt to me like the whole model contest was kinda thrown in last minute plus it limits them to female only designs. (pixie-esque erin's been my favorite tho * : )

Wed is my fashion-reality-tv night. I watch the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model search & Project Runway- been watching since the first episodes and both are getting very exciting. Too much fun. I predict, as some of you already have, that PR will come down to Jay, Austin & Kara Saun. All three are quite talented. Kara Saun is the most consistent and a very solid designer. Austin has his vision and that flamboyant studio 54 persona but needs to reign it in a bit. Jay has a semi-flamboyant but cooler personality, lots of wit & a strong design sense. I really didn't like Jay in the beginning, but he has slowly won me over. Austin was my favorite for a long time, but Kara Saun consistently impresses me. Aw heck- I wish them all the best of luck.

Yeah Jay is a creeper! I's bet he would be fun to smoke up and hit vintage stores with.

BTW, anyone know (I'm gonna see if I can google it) which store he owns?

Hmm, I remember watching that. I babysat for these two boys last year that were obsessed with that show.. Most of the "comediens" really seemed to appeal to little boys. It really makes you think about reality TV.

ANYWAY, about Project Runway.. this and last weeks episodes P me O. Aleksandra, one of my top three should not have gone. Neither should have Kevin this week. Obviously and when I saw OBVIOUSLY if you have eyes you can see that Jay and that crazy Wendy character have about as much talent as I would if I took a high school swewing class. I hope the top three are Jay, Kara, and Austin. It seems not many of you like Austin very much, but I think he is talented and does his own thing--which is kind of annoying when he doesn't fit in with the rest, but he would be fine with his own line. He has a really annoying personality though.

Morgan was a terrible model. So she can walk, so can 1,000 other girls.

Morgan is an idiot- She ruined most of the projects she was a part of and did so very flippantly- How rude. She aint THAT hot.

I think Melissa is very pretty and lanky and knows how to work a party like a ho- That never hurt anyone in fashion.

Also- I had no idea Jay owned his own shop- that lil factoid must have snuck by me. Makes me like him all the more :p

so.... which designer do you think has dressed the best so far on the show?

i usually look forward to seeing what jay's wearing the most.

to me the stand out outfit so far was austin's mr. scrooge pajamas with tube socks!

i thought nora's been my favorite dresser from the ladies.

she reminded me a lot of someone that i would be friends with ... she was very entertaining ...

Hmm, I don't know but Morgan was pretty much a coked up overindulgent b*tch in my opinion. She respected no one, was a drama queen, and doesn't seem to take anything seriously.

Entertaining on the telly for sure, but not someone I'd even want to converse with.

Wendy is EEEE-VIL!! I think we all know that the producers have kept her there so that she can be the designer that we all love to hate. I think the strategy is working to keep her there this long but she needs to go NOW! Okay, I wouldn't have chosen Morgan either, but the way Wendy eliminated her was so shady and mean. Karma is gonna come back and bite her in the *** like the dress she designed previously.

And speaking of Morgan... she's gone... . I really am going to miss her. She cracked me up!

LOVED Kara and Jay's designs last night. They totally looked like something you'd see in an animated movie or comic book. They really gave you the feel of an imaginary world with its own unique look. was not in love with the color scheme though.

Robert i hope they keep around just because he's nice to look at. Just don't let him open his mouth.

AUstin started out really interesting but now i'm just bored with his designs... all so girly and flowery... :yuk: i wanna see something new from him. like jay really knows how to mix things up.

my two cents... :p
