By the way -- have any of you noticed that little notice of disclosure they flash on the screen at the end of the show?? They throw it up there for about 1.5 seconds. It says basically(paraphrased) that the judges consider the designers scores, and INPUT FROM THE PROJECT RUNWAY PRODUCERS in their evaluations.
Actually most of these reality shows have that disclaimer. The producers input was most evident (or at least most visible) in this last years Last Comic Standing, where two very talented comics, clearly better than the others, were dropped from the show in favor of two horribly hack comics who were "omerosa-esque". Drew Cary and Brett Butler even walked off the show momentarily in outrage.
Here's an article:

Project runway is produced by the weinsteins, they are notorious for exploiting people and r*ping anything artisitic, just like what everyones complaining about.
I think though, that this particular show, could have been produced with a positive slant, and I think it possibly could have been a bigger and more lasting show had they not forced the negativity.
Like the old queen who comes by to check their work during the production portion of the show, didnt he seem meaner than usual last night? I can just see the producers outside that sewing room telling him to go in there and stir up some drama!
I think it'll be Kara/Jay/Austin in the final three, obviously. I'm pulling for Kara on skill but I could see Jay winning on personality. Austin needs a few more years and he'll be everywhere I bet. When he's Kara's age, I'd like to compare their works.
One last thing re: the whole drama everyone's hating on: is editing. These shows, as im sure everyone knows but no ones mentioned yet, generate so much footage, and we only see about 35 minutes of it, that you can literally construct complete archtypical characters out of peoples lives. You could follow anyone around for a few days and make them seem saintly, or caty, or insipid, or bright, crazy or shallow. Hrm, here's an example off the top of my head: If I follow you around just for one day while you volunteer your time with homeless children, I would have footage of you donating your time to children as well as you eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, possibly a snack or two, a piece of gum, and maybe a lone snapple or something throughout the day. I can then edit your entire day of saintly self sacrifice into a quick montage of you pigging out, then show some slowly panning shots of a couple of hungry homeless kids, and voila, you won't be able to go out in public, and I am not slandering or comitting lible.
So, knowing that, I watch the show for the designs and the atmosphere, etc. and just kinda tune out the drama and roll my eyes with it. I think Jay keeps letting little things slip regarding this whole drama, even to the point where he told that old mean guy, I hate this lying or something to that effect.
I love this show! *
