Real Models Vs Real People

Caring and being are two different things.
of course they are...i'm just telling from my own experience...i think the girls who truly love it and enjoy themselves are at an advantage...their enthusiasm and passion shows on film...they bring so much to the party...plus, if you don't love it, it's hard to keep going...it's a hard job... [/b][/quote]
I'm sorry, sometimes the mother hen in me comes out. What you say is so true. Her first love is her horses in fact she wants the whole ranch. She hates the city and trying to please everybody. But she also knows that modeling is one way to realise her dreams. Her favorite saying is " I wish they knew who I really was." I think that's why this topic caused so much conflict for me.

i understand...i don't know how some of these girls do it..some are so young...i don't think i could have done it at that age...all the scrutiny and rejection...it's similar for freelance photographers and stylists and hair and make-up people...i can relate...but if i didn't absolutely love this...i never would have survived...i wish everyone the best in fulfulling all their dreams...i hope your daughter gets her ranch someday...

Me too.

and now i will tell you what i really think...

i think there are far too many magazines trying to sell us clothes and not enough selling dreams...

i know that this is for business reasons...basically, lucky became really successful and every other magazine is trying to follow their formula...hence all the 'real' people and all the guides on what's right -for you!...

but for practical reasons...people need to dream...people need to escape and aspire...that's what i love about fashion...the fantasy...there's so little fantasy left in fashion...

models can wear anything...that's part of their job, to fit into the clothes.
they can also do more than just smile (which is all 'real' people can usually do)...
and the way they move...

there's a place for both, i'd just like to see more of a balance
...more fantasy
...more models
:flower:

those lane bryant shows are just bad...why do all the women have their shirts open?...it's a blatant attempt to attract attention using sex... :yuk: and i really don't think their shows portray these women in the best light... :yuk:

I think it's an unfortunate part of society that women have been brainwashed into thinking a 5'11 model is somehow superior to them or looks 'better' in clothes than they do. When I see clothing I want to know how it will look on me (5'2 with hips) not on a skinny mannequin. I always prefer seeing 'real people' models and am tired of the way the fashion and modeling industries use their 'ideals' to beat women over the head with. Their livelyhood depends on giving women low self-esteem so that they can sell them some sort of twisted fantasy. Women are supposedly liberated now but it seems that we continue to allow ourselves to be imprisoned. It's quite ironic that it's primarily gay men that have decided what an ideal woman is :furious: :censored:

I'd like to share some thoughts - all IMO:

1 - "normal people"=average looking people (just a question of semantics).
2 - models=non-average looking people (or at least someone who can be really distinctive in front of a camera - that's why I don't know how in the world can Fernanda Tavares be a model, to name just one).
3 - Bixii, don't see prejudice where there's none. :flower: As You Like It was just trying to make a fair point. :flower: .
4 - Salma Hayek features in fashion mags cause she's a celebrity. That's not modelling.
5 - High Fashion requires high fashion models. Everyday fashion requires more average looking models. Mixing the concepts might be interesting, but to each its own. I would hate to see "normal" people in fashion mags from now on, as I hate seeing celebs taking over. They are NOT models.
6 - People should try and understand that there's room from everybody in fashion.
Gorgeous girls will always be required to do it, as will be other kinds of beauties and non-beauties, or regular looking people. As long as someone wants to see it, it will keep going.
7 - A really personal opinion: the only thing that seems wrong to me is the height pattern in fashion. I've seen girls on the street with perfect faces, perfect figures, who would be great in editorials and even on the runway, but they apparently can't make it 'cause they are short, or not at least 5'9''. There's not many of them out there, but they exist, and they should have a chance. Just think of Devon or Kate Moss (who, IMO, isn't that distinctive, but at least broke the ground for smaller girls).

I don't mind seeing tall, thin girls modelling because I have a similar body type (but not as skinny of course). I rarely see girls with my body type on the street, and the clothes they wear don't always look as good on me. I would like to see more ethnic diversity in high fashion though, and not just the one token black or hispanic girl.

I agree; it would also be nice to see more Asian models. :flower:

great...we all agree that we'd like to see more ethnic diversity...now if we could only convince the rest of america..because the majority of them still respond best to a pretty blonde who's not too beautiful...because that would be 'threatening'...oooh..i'm so insecure i'm threatened by a monthly periodical...

i'm so sick of that... if you're looking for some self-esteem...you're not going to find it between the pages of any book, magazine, or bible...it's inside of you and you're gonna have to do the work to dig it out...if you're having trouble..talk to a friend, counselor, parent, teacher, mentor, doctor...but for heaven's sake..don't expect to find it in a fashion magazine..fashion is superficial fluff and that's all...it's entertainment...i don't understand why people take it so seriously...it gets tossed in the trash after a month...how serious can it be...

that was my little rant...i'm done now...whew...that felt good

i'm glad you approve...sometimes i just can't hold it in anymore... :flower:

:brows: So, I'm seeking for blood here...
It's kinda funny to see how people take it all too seriously.. anyway, as you said before, it's just fashion. It isn't supposed to be a big concern, but if we all thought of it that way, tFS wouldn't exist, don't you think?
PS: if you want to, I can go preaching in your favour in this shoe/high heel/ whatever thread.. :P just kiding!!!
PS: I just read your post there, you're nasty!!

I love this kind of topic, it makes you think about other peoples views and sometimes maybe even change your own. I wish there were more like it. When I log on I hate to see post after post about how thin someone is or pictures of the same girls time and again. It's hard to come up with new topics . I even search other forums and fashion news channels to try and find something to start a new discussion that would be of interest to the majority of the tFS crew. Anyway, this one sure woke a lot of us up,(including me).
