RIP Alexander McQueen CBE : 1969 - 2010

I cried reading the story online, it is such a tragedy, an untimely death. I am in utter shock. We lost such an amazing inspirational person. He will be truly missed & always remembered. I just wish people going through what he did would seek help, guidance & support rather than take this tragic step and end their own lives.

I was looking at all my photos of Mcqueen from my computer, from the Givenchy to the lastest one.....I cant believe it..In total shock.
But at the same time, I 'm thinking about his collection, I saw someone post it, Mcqueen said he wish his company will keep going after he dies. But I am thinking who can replace Mcqueen, NO ONE. At the moment, No one can replace Mcqueen......tragic story..

I agree Mathewthew - I'm really not sure what I want to happen. I mean, the reason I love McQueen the brand is because of McQueen the person. His personal involvement is so evident in all his clothes, it's difficult to know who can fill his shoes.

I still can't believe to this tragic news. I can't imagene that I won't see McQueen's show this season.:(

When I think about McQueen, I always see this amazing moment from McQueen's Fall 2006 show - Kate Moss Hologram. Just so beautifull and romantic moment.

I thought McQueen had said that when he died he didn't want the company to continue... I'm not sure if it will continue, the McQueen brand is still a baby compared to all the old fashion houses.

I miss him so much, fashion seems to have lost some of it's sparkle.

i still feel devastated about the news. he commits suicide on my birthday :(
i always hated birthdays and say that it's my "bitchday" instead and it is indeed this year :(
I know how you feel... Thursday was my birthday as well and I always hate my birthday. This sad news made it so much worse.. :(

I hope there's some sort of homage come Paris FW as his fall collection is probably the last unseen set of works by him. This is indeed a tragic loss. He was able to create such energy with his designs each season, hopefully this spirit won't go away for many years to come.

:(

>> The news of Alexander McQueen's death hung like a dark cloud over the Fashion Week events today. The McQueen store down the street from Milk Studios in Manhattan, where a number of shows were held today, had its windows covered with white paper; a placard left on the ground outside. Passersby left flowers and notes in a makeshift memorial out front. Barneys, too, changed out its windows in tribute to McQueen — the store sold over 500 McQueen scarves today.
This morning at the BCBG show, just as the news broke, Anna Wintour left before the show's finale. The Ports 1961 show held a moment of silence in honor of McQueen, Cushnie et Ochs included a tribute note in their show's program, and at the LnA after party this evening, Patti Smith dedicated her performance to the designer.
Kate Moss, who was scheduled to hold a launch party for her Longchamp collection in London, postponed the event to mourn her friend.More changes to the calendar may be made: The Cut is reporting that editors might leave New York Fashion Week early for London in light of McQueen's death.

On Twitter, there was an outpouring of grief from the industry, collected below. T's Stefano Tonchi told The Cut he partially blames the rapidly increasing speed of the fashion system for McQueen's suicide:
We all know that this is a very critical moment in fashion, and that basically he is the first victim of what is a conflict between creativity and business. Today to be a fashion designer, you have to be a superman or superwoman. You have to have nerves of steel. You have to be so strong. And if you are a little bit weak, if you have psychological problems or weakness, you end up like him.” When McQueen began in fashion, designers worked on two or three collections a year, said Tonchi. “Now you have to be a business manager, a marketer. It’s, what? Eight, ten, fifteen collections a year. Men’s, women’s, couture, diffusion. Then they want accessories. Then they want watches. Then they want jewelry. It’s a machine, and I think that killed him.

I think he said he wanted it to continue.

i believe it was the timesonline.co.uk that reported that it might not make enough money to continue.

I read that too, not sure what to make of it because it's largely speculative and based on assumption, but I just read on Twitter that they're recalling McQueen samples - not sure what to make of that.

Having said all that, I do wonder what McQueen is without McQueen. It's difficult to know how a relatively young fashion brand can continue without such a creative force at its helm.

Rip Alexander Mcqueen you will be missed world wide for all fashionista.

There still are no words for how I feel right now. I'm truly hurting. I can't imagine the McQueen name without McQueen. His thought process and point of view was just that unique that it can't be replicated by someone.

The wall street journal is reporting that aswell. I see why they'd want to do that, but i guess it's not really a good sign.

I still can't face the fact, by the way. whenever i think about this my stomach aches.

Thanks for the link, mistress_f - worded like it was in that report, it sounds like a sensible precaution to stop people profiting out of McQueen's death, I can't imagine that any decision has been made yet with regards to the future of the brand.

Lady Gaga’s Pose With Alexander McQueen
By Matt Creamer

The tributes to Alexander McQueen keep pouring in today as Lady Gaga, a McQueen devotee who wore his lobster-claw heels among other designs in her video for “Bad Romance,” posted a snap of herself posing cheek-to-cheek with the deceased designer via Twitpic. The fashion icons both look happy in the grainy pic, which of course makes it that much more sad
