Rodarte for Target

Another article:

A new designer is following the luxe for less trend.

Target has snapped up Rodarte to design a line for their Go International series of limited collections, reports WWD.com. The Target series, which has included designs from runway darlings like Erin Fetherston and Thakoon since its 2007 inception, focuses on young and emerging designers, widening their appeal by lowering the price point of their garments.

The desiging duo that makes up Rodarte, sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, will offer up 55 pieces for the line, which is scheduled to launch on December 20 - just in time for last minute holiday shoppers - and only through February 6, 2010. And the price? Rodarte for Target’s Go International line will feature knee-highs starting at just $9.99 and max out at $79.99 for a leopard print jacket.

Rodarte, a label known for its intricate red carpet looks (Kirsten Dunst, Reese Witherspoon and Natalie Portman are fans), translate their signature designs into mass market appeal.

“What you’ll notice is an amazing eye for detail,” said Target spokesman, Joshua Thomas. “It’s very feminine, yet very modern. The collection incorporates a rich mix of patterns and fabrications and everything from sequins and bows to faux fur. The key with Rodarte is layering.”

The collection also includes “a variety of great holiday dresses,” according to Thomas -- welcome news to anyone who’s longed to wear a frock from the avant garde design team.

“There are stand-alone pieces and pieces that can be worn together to create an ensemble by layering different patterns, textures and prints,” said Thomas. The spokesman went on to add that while some guests may have shopped the upscale collection, Target “will introduce Rodarte’s design aesthetic to a much broader audience.”

Target’s Go International series also shares the stage with Designer Collaborations, a program that invites designers to create a line based on some bit of inspiration- a muse, collaborative partner or a creative element, for instance. Alexander McQueen debuted his collection - the first in the series - back in March; Anna Sui’s “Gossip Girl” inspired looks ready to hit stores on next month, on September 13.

Have ANY of these collaborations ever produced anything that didn't look or feel cheap? remember Karl for H&M? It was sooo nasty. I wouldn't hold my breath if i were you.

but what exactly are you expecting? it's target! not barney's or colette. for what it is and the price range i think the quality is okay. it's cheap but aesthetically pleasing,at least.

^ target is actually reletevly good when it comes to quality at the price I bought a few pieces from proenza schouler collab and it still looks great

This can't be serious...look even the darlings of fashion can't rack up dough. Let's see what they come up with.

i agree sophia. it's actually much better than most high-street/mall stores i've been to.

i agree sophia. it's actually much better than most high-street/mall stores i've been to.

some of the clothes I have bought at target has outlasted my H&M and Urban Outfitters clothes

can't wait, even if there's one good piece i'll be happy

i wont ever be dissapointed in Rodarte. They could make something so ugly and profound, and I would still love them so, because they are AMAZING artists.
I cant wait to see this collection!!!

i'm excited to see what they come up with...
i've ignored a lot of the recent target collaborations but i will definitely be keeping an eye out for this :shifty:

and i agree with those of you who mention that target quality is not bad...
you get what you pay for and if you're expecting high end designer quality you're looking in the wrong place here...

high quality, hand made pieces are $$$
doing a line with target is a great way for rodarte (or whichever collaborator) to reach a mass market with their design aesthetic at a lower price point...
of course the quality isn't going to be what you find in a luxury store, but you get a piece of that designer mystique...

i sincerely hope this doesnt come out like the alexander mcqueen collab - which is for me the most dissapointing of all.
