So You Want to Become a Model? (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

I have a little question.. I have rosacea, but just a little, it's easy covered with some green concealer. So when you send pics on yourself without makeup on and the agency see that you have some king of a problem like rosacea, will they just say no?

I want to know how models don't get insanely sore after shoots. I modeled yesterday for an artist. My kneck is killing me today from all the posing. Ouch!

I convinced my parents to let me go to Major's open call :woot: when I am in NY visiting Columbia, Barnard, and NYU in 17 days!!! Now the only question is...what to wear: jeans or short skirt? Or does it really make a difference?

Since it's summer wear the short skirt.

For ideas...I just wanted everyone to know that the "Models in their own clothes" thread has been moved to the new "Street Style forum" The name of the thread is "Model's Street Style"

Does anyone know if IMG Women's division has open calls? Seeing as though their website is STILL not finished, I'm not really sure.

Also, is it possible for anyone to post a list of the open call times and days for most of the major NY agencies?? I know I, and I'm sure others, would greatly greatly appreciate it. Thanks :flower:

I'll post it, since I've gotten a few PM's asking for it...there's only about 15 NY agencies on here, but the "best" ones are there. Also, I don't have the open call times for 1 Model Manamgement and Click Model Management, so someone might have to call them to find out (I would do it right now but it's not their business hours anymore and there's no automated system). I hope no one minds me posting this here, since it's pretty long! But of course it's also very helpful and is a tad annoying to compile on your own (I would know! )...

It might depend on the agency, but my skin was the main problem at Major when I went for the open call. I had REALLY FAINT scarring on two small, different parts of my body (not even my face), and she immediately pinpointed it and told me I needed to heal the scars before anything else...she said "models are perfect" and she couldn't send "flaws" to her clients.

Thanks for the link! I had been wondering who her daughter was too. She is really beautiful. I'm so impressed. What I admire most though is how model_mom lets her choose how much to pursue her career and supports her decisions. I know it isn't my business but a lot of kids get presssured into the life their parents want for them. Ali is lucky her mom is so supportive of her success but also allows her to lead the life she wants. I know that's off-topic but it's so nice to see that.

WOW! This thread is really helpful! MUST BE PINNED!!!:woot:

A few questions:
1) At 5'7.5" should I pull a Mona J. and ALWAYS be seen in heels? Also, my mom is 5'11" and my dad is 6'6"- should I point that out, to prove I'm still growing (I'm only 14!)

2)What about the WHOLE story on makeup? I could have better skin. But, like Kate Moss I have a very diffrent look (i'm comprised of three diffrent races!)B).

Guess I have the confidence thing, too!;)

Would shorts and heels be okay for open calls?

I would think so, as long as your heels aren't too flashy...good luck with the open call!!

I have a question, sorry if it has been handeled already..

baout model looks, do you think that agencies won't take "baby-doll" faces (Gemma Ward i.e ) anymore because there is so many, or are they looking for them ? Is there any certain look that they don't want anymore? I know it depends on agency but still..

Hi :) Do you know if being a member of models.com helps? Or it doesn't worth it?
