So You Want to Become a Model? (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

Hi :) Do you know if being a member of models.com helps? Or it doesn't worth it?

Your better off posting + emailing your pictures to all the agencies first, if that fails there is nothing to stop you, but go with the free option first! ^_^

I'm alredy done it :( I've e-mailed my pictures to all the major agencies in February and most answers I've got was - "you are great but we are not looking for your type of face now, good luck with your career." One agency in Canada answers that they can't work with me because I live so far:( Now I'm trying to e'mail my pics to one Russian agency fron Moscow, they have their models working for Russian Vogue. I've made my test shoots with Polaroid. Images is not very clear but they are fresh at least :)

Agencies get thousands of pictures a year. I've seen many of them go straight from the envelope to the trash. the fact that you are getting any answer at all is a plus for you. They are being honest and trying to let you know that you won't work in their market.

I'm coming in here because I need advice.
Currently I am modeling with a smaller agency on the west coast. My stats are: 5'9 & 1/2, Waist: 25, Hips: 35, Size jeans/dress 0-2, brown hair and blue eyes. I am working a little bit, but I wish to work more once I am out living on my own.
I am hoping to go to New York and try and get some work doing runway there.

What I am asking is, realistically, do you think 'measurements-wise' I can get work? A lot of the girls on the runway have waists and hips smaller than mine.

I guess I am just looking for some reassurance.

Thanks guys.

and how much time do they have to be there? for make up, dressing, and the show??? like 2 hours???
It can be SO much longer than two hours.
One time I did a show that wasn't going to start until 9pm, and I had to be there at THREE. This was so we could do a rehearsal, then dress rehearsal, then hair and makeup for over two hours...it was exauhsting.
It requires a LOT of waiting around. But you're usually with fun people, so it's all good. :)

If you are about 5'10'' and a size 0-2, i doubt you will have a problem with size ....you are skinny enough, i would hope.

Omg size 0-2 is tiny! Thats tinier than heaps of models! You'll be fine! A lot are like sie 4-6/6-8!

wow who's a 6-8? Unfortunately I don't think I've seen a runway model that "large" in the past many seasons. I do agree that 0-2 is really tiny though...If you go to most modeling agencies' websites and look at the models' portoflios, their size will be listed as 2-4, usually 4s...

A lot of Australian models are around that size ive noticed. i really meant 6. 8 is like a 10 aus isnt it??

Ah yes, Australian and UK and US sizes all different...I didn't know where you were from so I just assumed US sizes because I never even knew 0-2 existed in the UK & Aus!!! Oops. I think most models are US 2-4, UK 6-8, Aus 8-10, French 36-38, Italy 40-42. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong... :)

You should be okay, the agencies will help you lie though

you will probaly be 5'10 34 24 34
Do they lie about measurements for a lot of models? I've noticed that sites with metric listings are often what I would think are more accurate (ie bigger than ones with inch measurements). Do some/many models actually have 35-36" (maybe even 37") hips and 25-26" waists? Or are most pretty much what is listed because height-lying works and can go unnoticed but if you say you have a certain set of measurements when you don't, clothes that should fit won't at fittings?

I read earlier about agencies wanting to turn people away because of scarring, so if I have acne scars on my chest, upper back, and right shoulder, will I not be accepted by anyone except maybe local agencies that don't really get much work? They aren't super severe, I don't really have that many, but my problem is I scar really easily and noticeably.

Also, do agencies sign models who aren't in "model shape" when they meet them? Like right now, I'm 6' and 32-25.5-36.5 and not in very good shape (I need toning haha) would they tell me to come back once I've lost the inch and a half from my hips and waist and gotten in excellent physical shape? Or would they sign me and give me an exercise routine to follow to get in shape and lose the inches (which I think would be easy to do considering my current "diet" of junk food haha). Anyways, here's my body shot, very bad quality haha. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v457/ablutophobic/b8296706.jpg and my face http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ablutophobic13/1b86902e.jpg

Yet another question, what about overbites? Will I get turned down my good agencies because I have one? I think I just have a weird chin in general. This picture doesn't really show it so I can't really explain. It actually doesn't appear to photograph the way I think it looks, so maybe it's in my head.

This post is long and makes me sound more unsure and insecure than I really am, but it's just some questions I have. I don't plan on applying to DNA or Women or anything right away, I was thinking Mode since it's in my country and they have good connections and seem to be putting out good models right now.

I guess it really comes down to how the person I talk to is at the moment to whether or not my "flaws" will be accepted. I don't think I'll even try to model at all until I grad from high school because it's important to me to finish school now, since I'm a straight-A student and stuff.

I look plenty skinny to myself too haha. I have no hips at all if you look at me frontways, I'm straight up and down. My mom describes my shape as a piece of uncooked spaghetti, one long tube haha.

Not my quote..... I've seen plenty of models with bad skin. Show week make up,traveling by air and stress all take a toll. Ask any model.

and if you have sensitive skin.. all that crap they put on your face must also take its toll.... the makeup.. the washing off of the makeup.. repeat cycle "n" amount of time for "n" amount of days"

Okay, I'm not in the modeling industry at all (at least not yet!) but from what I gather, they fudge height measurments more than bust-waist-hip measurements. I mean I'm sure they might mess with them a little bit, but overall not that much. Since most models are US 2-4, I think, they won't be any larger than 35-25-35. Like you said, if they are larger, they won't fit into samples, etc... But I don't think you will have a problem!! By the looks of your photos, you are certainly thin enough!

you were proably reading about my experience at major model management. My scars also are very, very faint, and in not that noticeable places, and could be photoshopped out pretty easily, but she pinpointed them immediately. I might have mentioned this before but she said that models need to be flawless so scars weren't acceptable. I don't know if that's how it is with other agencies, but that's how it was at major.

Also, do agencies sign models who aren't in "model shape" when they meet them? Once again, I'm not in the industry but from what I gather, I think it depends on how much the agency likes you. I have heard of so many people turned away from agencies because they are "too fat". But if the agency thinks you have the potential to be the next Gisele or Daria, then they might sign you and have you work on losing a few pounds. But once again...you look to be skinny enough now! It seems hard to believe you have 36.5 hips...not to give offense or anything, but are you sure you're getitng that measurement properly?

Yet another question, what about overbites? Will I get turned down my good agencies because I have one? I think I just have a weird chin in general. I sure don't see any visible overbite!

Good luck! :D

I woudlnt worry about your overbite, its how it photographs thats more important. And as for model size, ive seen an agency that listed Elyse Taylor with a 26 waist, and another that listed her at 24, i think it really depends on how it "looks" more than what it actually is, as long as you can fit into the clothes.

hey

I want to be a model too ( like all the other 1 0000000 girls on the planet )
But I'm from Belgium .. And I don' t know any good model agencies here ...
I only know dominique models ... I would like to know how elize crombez and hannelore knuts ( from belgium ) got big ... ( i don't think there that beautiful  )

I have seen in "modelbehaviour " and other programs that models go from one casting to another ... but I searched the internet and I don't find castings

I know .. I really don't know anything about it right

Also I am 1m73 ... How much do I have to weigh .... I know they usually give measurements in stead of weight .. but I would like to know ( is there a site where I can see the weight of models ? )

I know it ' s a lot of questions , but I'm hopeless

pls help me :flower: :flower:

tnx !!!

i have never been weighed in all my experiences modeling. never. dont worry about it. you could be really toned and have more muscles and be heavier than someone who has more fat but weighs less and is bigger than you. measurements are all that matter.
