So You Want to Become a Model? (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

I heard models weigh around 115 at 5'11". I have a long ways to go if I'm ever to be that skinny.

Ok, people! This goes to model_mom especially! I have a friend who is the most gorgeous girl ever!:woot: She wants to pursue modelling, but unfortunately her height is 5'8". I truly believe that with her looks, she can suceed is she really puts her mind to it, but most agencies tell her to come back when she grows an inch.  Well, concidering that a ot of girls doing runway are actually under 5'9" (and the agencies fudge their height) and models like Marina Perez (whos 5'7" and that's not fudgable) does she still have a chance? I know she does because agents seem to be impressed with her looks. Does anyone have any advice? Agencies in Canada, other places? Anything would be greatly appreciated!;)

Romina Lanaro said she was about 130lbs, and she is about 5'11

If your friend is as good as you say she is,they should come knocking on her door. Good luck.:flower:

thanx ... so what are the ideal measurements then ?
From what I've heard and read (you might want to check Next's site, they also have a forum)

Bust: 30 - 34
Waist: 22 - 24
Hips: 33 - 35
Height: 5'10 - 5'11

The average among HIGH FASHION runway models looks to be something around 32 - 23 - 34, heights range from 5'7" to 6'2", though someone over 5'11" shouldn't have 34" hips imo. Hana is 6'0.5" and has 34" hips.. :ninja: 33" for any height over 5'8" is also too little, Solange Wilvert's hips are that size and she's incredibly narrow.
Um.. what I'm trying to say, you're 5'8" so if the agency sees potential in you they'll most likely want your hips at 34". Elite however seems to like 33" (from what I've seen in their online New Faces department), which I think is insane cause those girls are over 5'10"!

Lots of numbers in one post, can you tell I'm obsessed  (I'm not, don't worry)

that 's a great answer ! thanks a lot !!!
Well, I am 14 and 5'10" tall with measurements of 35-25-35 with a 33 inseam. I have been told to tighten up the stomach and calves and to start eating properly since I want to become a high fashion model. Sometimes, I just get so frustrated without getting any replys from the pics my mother has sent in for me, I will not give up. A mother of another model referred a Model manager to us. With him getting me on the proper eating and excercising regimen hopefully he will be able to submit me to an A agency. I see now that it just dosn't take the good looks but for the looks to be toned. Enough for now

"ideal" measurements would be 5'10 and 34 24 34

and as far as waist measurements, many 5'10 and 5'11 models have 24.5 or 25 for waist, i think lily donaldson is one with 25

That is motivational. By the way, what has Lily Donaldson been seen in? I am so trying to get my body in shape. I take a full deck of cards and do leg lefts per each card. It is killing meeeeee. It is supposed to take 48 minutes but I think I take a bit longer. What a neat forum. So glad we found this.

Hello there Model_Mom. By looking at how many posts you have on this site, correct me if I am wrong but are you a model? And are you a mom of a model or a mom while being a model? Just asking.

I really doubt that is true. I mean, I wear size 0-2 jeans and I am 5"9 and weigh about 120 pounds or so. If you are at the height 5"11 it must be nearly impossible to be THAT light unless you were doing so by unhealthy means, and in that case, I'd think the unhealthiness would be more apparent.

possibly maybe?

I was curious... I'm currently 14 and my heigth is 5 foot 5.5 inches. Other than that, my measurements are in the norm for modeling.
Is there ANY possibility that a top agency would accept me?
I'm VERY serious about modeling, I've been wanting to model since I was very young.

No I've never modeled but I have a daughter who modeled for Ford. She still does some work for Ford Chicago but it's not her favorite thing to do. She is a country girl at heart.

Since you are still young, you will probably grow. I was probably about 5'6" at your age but now am 5'8", and I visited the doctor today and he told me that, though I am 17 (tomorrow) I will probably still grow another 1-2 inches (YAY!!!)!

Hypothetically, if you never grew another inch, at your height, you really wouldn't be able to do runway modeling, but you could try other types like commercial! :) But you probably will grow, so give it another two years and see where you are then!!

Thank you so much! Devon Aoki has done runway and she's quite short, so it gives me great hope, as I would love to do runway someday.

yep...I think part of Devon Aoki's success is that she was born with a bit easier access to fame than most girls--she's the daughter of Rocky Aoki, who owns the Benihana restaurant chain--but she really is a very good model with a great look, and has had lots of success despite the fact that she is rather short. So you never know, in any event, good luck!
