thanks for clearing that up for me.anybody got any tips for an aspriing black model?? i heard its hard for blk models to model or get signed in NY cuz they like to keep the numb. or certain girls down...but then why do they have so many caucasian models?

I think it's because the fashion industry uses so few black models compared to the number of white girls. Therefore they only "need" a few. But hey, I think it'll change. Just give it some time.

omg i'm freaking out haahhaha! mode models just emailed me back 20 minutes ago and they're interested in me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they want me to do a test shoot! ahhh i'm so excited lol. but... i don't know what to do. to be honest i haven't said anything to my parents about wanting to model except for joking around, and i know they reallllllly want me to go to university and i really want to go to, but university can wait, modeling can't! my other problem is they're based in calgary and i'm in BC so I'd have to ride a plane and it would be costly for maybe nothing in the end.

It says I have to pay $321 for the test shoot, which includes everything photographer/makeup/hair/stylist. I'm so excited I got a reply. Another thing that excited me is its an email from a Mode International person, not a local one. I'll just let it sit in my email for now, but... its very encouraging and exciting to get an interested reply from a respectable agency!!!!

thats some awesome news you got there! that means alot for them to want to ask you to come to calgary to test you. And university can wait, modelling only lasts you for so long, university will always be there at the end of it. Good luck!

btw sometimes westjet has some really good one way deals from vancouver > calgary, you should check that out.

Maybe it's changed but isn't charging people for shoots a bigger scam than diet tea?

Wow congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you! I know I would be like jumping up and down if that happened! I know what you mean though, with your parents and everything... my mom doesn't want me to model and no one else in my family, other than my sister, knows I wanna be a model! MY family can't afford for all the expenses and they don't wanna move Oh well that's me rambling! lol But do you have any pics of yourself that we can see? Im sorry if you posted them before and I didn't see... lol

I'd say yes if this were some tiny little local agency, but since it's a respectable one with top models, I'm guessing it's probably safe. I mean, I guess I can't expect them to pick up all my costs when they aren't sure they even want to sign me yet.

I think I should tell the agency about my flaws before I take it any further. What do you guys think? I'd hate to spend money and go over there only to be instantly rejected because of my overbite and scars that you couldn't really see in the photo. I'd hate to waste both my and their time.

I paid for Ali's first test shoot for Ford and it paid off in spades. They loved the pictures and she booked a lot of jobs off them.

Mode is really good with the first test shoot, the photographer is great. If you think about it, $321 is the only cost to start, if they don't think you'll do well, they'll tell you, Mode wouldnt make you spend money for the sake of it.

Fair enough. Still seems a wildly unreasonable way to run a business. But I suppose when 14 year olds get exploited it's churlish to complain most about the former.

(which they probably won't)...but let's say they do....
How should one handle this. What would Elite do if DNA showed interest in me bc. of the pics I mailed them, without telling Elite...? Would they be thrilled or just mad and annoyed...?

That's called poaching if an agency takes over a model from another agency. Sometimes they buy the contract out if they think the models worth the price. Sometimes models just jump ship to another agency and nothing is said.
