So You Want to Become a Model? (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

Don't now, if this question has already been posted before (I was too lazy to read all the pages...).

I'd really love to work as a model, BUT I know that I could NEVER work for high fashion stuff (although I'm 5'11 and quite thin but NOT THAT SKINNY, about US Size 6...) I have a little model experience (but that's about 12 years ago) so you can guess that I'm not the youngest anymore (25)...

I'd really love to do some parts stuff (like legs, hands, face), advertising... I could also imagine working for catalogues (no runway...). I don't wanna be a pro, I still got my studies to do but a lot of time left to gain some extra money and travel...

Do you know any good europe based agencies which are specialized in working with non high fashion models? I live in Germany. Ther're are a lot of weired agencies I really don't wanna work for... I know the big agencies but these are manly for high fashion and for these - I know - I'm already too old.

What can you tell me about non high fashion modelling? How are the chances at my age? I know that the "classic women" start at the age of 30!? I've once applied for american apparel but they only wanna work with nyc or la based people (although there're some stores in germany)...

Any advice?
Kind regards...

Try the links on this page. You might come up with some legit agencies in your area. I'm not sure about the rest of your question but maybe the agencies you send your pictures to could give you an answer.

Thanks a lot. The link is very helpful. I've already found some interessting agencies which might be interessted in me ;)

^ms. jade do you know the agency that is said to have 'discovered' jana pallaske? it's berlin based but i forgot the name. i remember liking their approach to the business ... it's not a model-only agency, but still...

and by the way, i think you'd make a fantastic model:flower:

^ Thank you so much . No, I don't know the agency which discovered Jana Pallaske. I googled her name and couldn't find a hint. Maybe it's "izaio" or "viva" they both have a "people" section for those who aren't suitable for high fashion... I'm thinking of applying to both of them.

Hey, I'm interested in modeling, but of course I'd have to ask my parents first (mainly my mom). How did all of you go about telling them? I really don't know what she might say but I'm leaning towards a negative response :/

i'm sort of aspiring myself, but i never really had to tell my mom..everyone always told her i need to get into modeling but niether of us took it seriously until i was stopped in nyc. I would suggest just mentioning that you are interested in it and ask her what she thinks. At least then she will know that her opinion is important to you. If she sounds like she doesn't like the idea drop the subject. When I want my mom to consider something, I've learned that she's more likely to say yes when I don't push it.

I found out that Elite is having a model call for a jc penny and seventeen fashion show for girls 13 -21 near where I live.

I fit the age limit, and I think I'd like to go. Is it worth it to go?

I was thinking about wearing white tee, jeans, and flats. No makeup and minimal hair product usage.

Thanks :flower:

for avant garde

i think you should go there normal and natural...
so i guess they do not like it when you style up to much.
if they want you, they pic you because of your face, body (and somtimes person ;) )
just go for it! you have nothing to lose...

thanx

hope they will take you and that your wish will come true!

i know women modeling is much harder, but it´s always a good experience to work with so many people and travel to forign countries.
see you on the catwalk one day..(maybe);)

Theyre not going to book a model based on their shoe size, its about face and body. Height too, 5'11-6'3 ..always exceptions though. But if youre an exception you must be spectacular.

for a female i thot the cutoff was 5'9....

^ Sorry I can't answer you, but shoe size is interesting, I have never thought of it before.

If shoe size has been discussed in this thread then I must have missed it...but, does anyone know the average shoe size for runway models? I have size 9 feet (US) are they too large? Am I silly for wondering about this cause it seems rather important for runway modeling. You can't exactly go down the runway with your heels hanging off the shoe...

if think u got it bad...u really dont i wear size 11 my sister size 13....cant find nice lookin shoes no where

for men it ´s best to have 10 or 11... maybe12.
some designers get into trouble when models appear with size 13-15.
but to avoid this you do fitting.....

You do not know how happy you have just made me! The ProScout guy said I was "perfect," but my skin was my only problem. I am still going to get my skin worked on, but hearing that realived me, it is good to know that if I got a random teenage breakout, they wouldn't stress over it too much!

I need to go measure my legs...

I did proscout...like last march

Oh I didn't think I had it bad...not really. I was just wondering what was the ideal shoe size but judging from responses, its not all that important and it's not like I can change the size of my foot anyway, so why worry?

Paris hilton had size 11 feet doesn't she? Kind of a random question

Edit: I am still wondering about moles though. Are those another "it's-not-really-important-if-you have-the-look" things, or do you think it betters my chances (or anyone else chances) if my/our skin is blemish free?
