So You Want to Become a Model? (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

Ok so I resent my pictures to Elite because I have a feeling something was up with their server when I sent them. Today I also sent Marylin, Vision and IMG pictures.

For what it's worth, alot of the main agencies here in NYC emails servers were down last week. They all got spammed and shut down. We actually had to book girls *GASP* over the phone! Not sure if they are back up and running now though...

Good luck though!

Anyone know how long it takes for a model agency to get back via email or if they are not interested, they won't reply a rejection email??? I applied to agencies in New York, Paris, Milan.

well some don't reply and some do even if they aren't interested. I got a reply from Vision once and they said that I was very pretty but not right for them at the moment. I think a lot of them just don't reply at all if they're not interested and if they are they usually get back to you soon after (like within a few days).

Should I send my pictures to international agencies as well? How would they keep track of me in the begining when I do local work?

aww it's kind of nice to know things like that actually do occur sometimes, and it's not just your brain trying to justify a rejection!:p

What's a fitting job? Could someone tell me plz. Look models hong kong are interested in me and after seeing them in person, they asked for my updated measurements and told me they are a fitting job and want to check if I am suitable.

The designers will pretty much use you as their mannequin in their workshops.

^ Is it good pay? Sounds really boring. What do I do? Just stand there?

Sorry I cant help you, I don't know much more than that. You can PM model mom and ask her your questions about fit modelling because I remember her daughter did a bit of fit modelling for Diane Von Furstenburg a while back. She's full of answers :)

From what the fit models that I've worked with tell me: First of all, you have to be a very precise size. Before they hire you, they will measure everything on you ... your rise, your inseam, your thighs, calves, arms in additon to your usual measurements... amost everthing and will hire you if you are just right. Then you must stay exactly that size or you will loose the gig. You really are there for final adjustments on the samples, before they go to production. You will tell them how things fit ... tight, loose, comfortable or not, etc. and then they will make adjustments from there. Most companies have fit models for their basic size just for fittings (usually a larger size than their runway and editorial samples) and then hire fashion models for their ads and shows. A fit model usually does not (actually can not) do both. So they don't care if you are photogenic or not ... but it's helpful if you know something about garment construction and have a pleasant personality and lot's of patience ... because you just do that all day.

The money is good, but you won't get famous ... the best fit models are totally unkown to the public.

to answer your question...
the pay for fitting is generally very good, and they normally need you every day for a certain peroid... maybe 2 weeks or 2 months... its good for you because its a regular income for that peroid so u wont have to worry about going on castings and getting other jobs...

i know a girl who went to paris and was the fitting manaquin for azzedine aalia for 3 months but she didnt have much money left after the agency took the money for staying in the model appartment and their commission
so make sure your costs are not outweiging how much they are offering you!

I'm only being a fit model for this particular job. Does that mean my booker won't get me castings for fashion shows and magazines? I'm confused....

What Ali did for Diane Von Furstenburg, Kenneth Cole and Douglas Hannant was to be a fit model for the clothes that were going to be in the shows. She tried them on,and walked back and forth to see how they moved and if any changes needed to be made. She also was the model for the test for make up and hair. All three of them also ask her to walk in their runway shows. I don't think it is the same thing as being a permanant fit model but she was paid very well for each designer that she worked for.

No ... what I meant was that if you are a company's fit model for production samples ... most likely you won't fit their runway samples so don't expect to serve both purposes for that particular company.

Your agent will continue to send you out on any calls that you meet the requirements for ... no change there.

ok, I sent my pictures online to IMG today. I forgot to take off my earings when I took the pictures. I hope they don't distract from my face. I know they'll probably never contact me but at least I can say that I tried.

**see tfs guidelines**

Do I have a chance?

^ The majority of models who are with IMG are the ones who already had previously modelling expierence with a top model agency and changed to IMG. One of my friends is with them now after modelling for Storm since she was 12 years old and joined IMG when she was 18 years old. Only the very few can get through brand new, but I don't know what they look for. Also did you send all round full length photos of yourself in a bikini because model agencies need to see that.

Good Luck
xx

Also I forgot to add that the ones that get through brand new are the ones who just joined other top agencies and have been recommended by their agent to join IMG if the agency is in another country.

So I think it is best to approach another agency and get expierence first, but you never know...

What do you guys think of my friend Jenni? She's an aspiring actress but also wants to break into the modeling industry, no surprise. She's having quite a hard time though, so maybe some professional opinions would be good. She's quite slow on getting her pictures up, so I have no full length to show. She's thin but not that tall. I personally see lots of similarities to Christy Turlington, though that look may not be "in" right now..

**see tfs guidelines, pictures of aspiring models is not allowed**

photos from jennijenkins.com and personal saved on PC
