Stealing Style...

Sorry copper we must have posted at the same time...I agree with you too...and I wasn't referring to specific garments but to ways of wearing them as melt said...

I wonder if Uniq was also referring to the *way* in which she wears scarves or sunglasses, not that she invented the actual garments...that's what I took it to mean..dunno...don't know about her style icon status in her country either, just saying...

I still don't feel that designers come up with style though...that was my first point, but thne maybe I misunderstood your first post.

(am at work and must stop now LOLOL)

Yes I was NOT referring that no one should wear skinnies/scarves etc except me..noo..BUT...I think Its the way i put everythin together that gives girls i know inspiration to do the same...ideas...just as if i see kate moss wearing her jeans in a certain way..it might inspire me to do the same...designers make clothes and set trends...but its the people who will take it however it is they want to...and wear it in an individual style.....the society i come from...are all new money..have alot of money to buy clothes but really dont know how to be creative about it...so i guess they get ideas from how i wear them...i hope my post didnt sound vain...but if your from my tiny country thats based on sociatle circles then you'd understand.....

my opinion:
i'll quote judy garland...
"be a first rate version of yourself not a second rate version of someone else"

i guess this can be applied to personal style

i admire and am inspired by other people's style but draw the line there....however i have been known to steal hairstyles

I had a friend who totally stole my style. It sucks. It was something that actually ruined our friendship... I didn't trust being around her anymore... haha seriously. I'd wear something and the first thing that would come to my mind was "she's gonna copy it".
It was weird, I remember we used to talk on the phone everyday and I'd say I was dying to get these shoes, this shirt, this skirt, whatever. Whatever I said, she'd say "God, me too! I've always wanted one!". And she'd buy one.

So I started getting really pissed cause she'd copy everything about my style, buy the same stuff I had or said I wanted to have... it was quite annoying.

that's really irritating but it's actually a compliment, she thinks that u have a good sense of style.

i think the worst kind of people are those that steal a particular person's style and tells the whole world that u stole his/her style

It's not cool when your friends buy exactly the same clothes as you all the time. That's defienitly stealing style!

Do such people exist? If you outrightly stole someone's style, why would you wanna go around admitting that??

ya. i came across such people.

in my secondary school, i brought this bag to school, and two days later, this particular girl had the same bag and she went around telling the whole world that she got the bag first and i followed her.

when i confronted her, she went "hey, we have the same bag" and nothing else

can you steal style?
i suppose you can steal outfits... and accessories... and ideas...
i suppose you can copy someone... try to dress like them... try to possess their allure by wearing the same clothes...

but to me, style is a personal expression of who we are...
we each have our own style that is a reflection of how we see ourselves and how we wish to be seen...
it is not just clothes and accessories, but how we project ourselves...
it has everything to do with personality, individuality, charisma... the *entire* image...

you can copy all you want, but i don't think you can ever succeed in stealing someone's style...

ultimately, it's theirs to keep.

^^That's a good point Calexico!

I guess two people wearing the exact same outfit could look entirely different depending on the attitude they exude.

i think i might have missed the point of the thread:lol:

it must've been late.

my best friend's style is getting more and more close to mine:cry:
I had always been the victorian style person, all my clothes are in black, white, cream and grey tones, she used to be very colourful, but now...... everything she buys is victorian and black black and black......... which makes me sick:ninja: !!
We go to school together and sharing a house now:( OHHHHHHHHH I hate that!
