The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #6

Just want to say, there's nothing at all wrong with your shirt, Fewormany! I love it, it's a great statement piece ... and you have to commit to a statement piece :mowhawk:

I was also thinking of rolled-up sleeves with the casual look I suggested, but I also like the idea of wearing it more formally with black trousers. I would not tuck it in ... I would show it off :cool2:

Fewormany That's an awesome print! I have no suggestions, but I hope you'll be able to make it work, it's too cool not to :woot:

I banned myself from anything fashion- or shopping-related online for a while, and didn't buy anything in January. However, this also meant I fell very behind on this thread, catching up right now, and on page 14... 10+ still to go.

This week I bought those cashmere loungewear pants I mentioned I was sale-stalking, but I decided not to count them because hey, specialty item, can not lounge without them!

Also, found my warm winter boots right at the end of December, one week before it got really cold, so right on time. Very warm and comfortable, and I found them almost by accident: I was shopping for books, but had to pass through the shoe section of the department store on my way. They look more sporty in pictures than in reality, imo.

Thanks all for the suggestions, I think I just needed some time to get used to the though of owning it because it's growing on me. Plus I'm all for statement pieces to shake things up1 :stuart:

Wearing it with black isn't going to work, because I don't own any black items (just a black t-shirt I use to layer under things). I usually get shocked reactions when I tell people I don't wear black. I don't like black, it looks very 'hard' on me and makes me look very pale/sickly. Plus I feel like a mime in slim fitting black clothing.
I wear grey as my main neutral, grey goes with everything, and works much better with color in my opinion.

I'm gonna wear the shirt when I'm going out for dinner tomorrow. I like the look of rolled-up sleeves, but I think that's more of a summer look. So I'm gonna wear it with either my grey woolen trousers or grey jeans. Untucked. Maybe with my navy cardigan and blue leather Boss shoes. I'm not quite sure yet if the blue will work with the black print.

I really want a leather jacket for my wardrobe and found this one from Mango. What do you think of the style. Do you like it or not?

I like the model but it looks somehow incomplete to me... like it lacks texture, or a trim on the bottom. Is it laser cut leather?

Taking this weekend to work my way through the thread...

Peura Please post more, would love to hear about your wardrobe goings-on! :flower:

Caramel Have you tried Brora for cashmere? They're not very "fashiony", so depending on what style of sweater you're after, maybe not an option, but the cashmere is of very good quality (also, it's supposedly from sustainable sources in Mongolia, and then processed and manufactured in Scotland).

Seasonal colour theory: I've had trouble defining my season as well, I think I'm a Soft Summer, but I arrived at that mostly by way of elimination. I'm neutral and low-contrast through-and-through, I don't suit very warm or very cool colours, too dark or too bright colours, so given that, there weren't a lot of options left.

heyitsrachelle Re: layering sweaters, I just wear my merino undershirt(s) under the sweater, they're thin so not much added bulk. If you're wearing a wool coat rather than a puffa, then having a biiiig scarf wrapped around the shoulders over the coat really helps too. This winter has been really mild here mostly though, only a few weeks of -10 to -15C in January, and now it's above 0 again.

eizhowa That's great that the pants worked out so well! Returning/exchanging is always such a major hassle.

Maybe it's just the picture but the leather looks a bit thin/cheap. Have you checked it in real life?

Color theory: I find it easier to look at the criterias used to define "your season". You are either clear or soft/muted, warm or cool, and light or dark. The reason I always struggled with finding my season is that I am neither dark not light. I am definitely clear and warm, but I am a sort of medium dark/light.

Trenchcoat: I don't think the leather looks very beautiful... I prefer slightly battered leather jackets though. Also, keep in mind that they must fit nice in the shoulders. I think it makes a huge difference.

The Mango jacket is leather. But it looks kind op plastic on the picture. I've found another one online that looks better imo. What do you think?

With your red hair, you would have to be Spring or Autumn. I think of it not as dark/light, but as high contrast/low contrast. I'd say you are high, and the deeper colors you prefer support this theory ;)

My shoes are going to have to go back ... even though the 38.5 I got last year verge on too small, the 39s are huge. He must have changed his sizing since last year. The site I ordered from never had a 38.5, but it's possible I may be able to find them elsewhere ... however the strap on the left shoe (the one that wraps across the foot) is almost too tight, so I question whether even on the smallest hole I'd be able to wear a 38, which I think is probably what I actually need for the length. It may be fair to say that this shoe isn't working for me. Thoughts?? Perhaps I'll consult the expert on the site, which I haven't done so far.

The pants on the other hand are both working out great--very very happy with both. I will probably buy more St John in the future. I associate the label with Ann Landers as it was her favorite ... but no one has to know who made them! I know they're trying to be edgier, and I think somewhat succeeding--the fabulous leather!--and they are the kind of clothes that are made for real women, and so look better on me than on the model, which I love :crush:

I pulled out some pieces that I felt were representative of my wardrobe and colour palette, and laying them out together makes me think it's not that bland and colourless after all. Even if I do have a lot of black solids to add to that (pants, skirts, shoes, bags). :flower:

Trenchcoat: I pinned a very beautiful leather jacket for you on your rec board:flower: It is more expensive than the mango/hm one, but a leather jacket is an investment piece so I think it is worth spending some money on.

Thank you. How much is it?

I am skeptical to all things HM, and not just because of the quality and fit... The fit is rarely right in my experience, but you are taller and need a different cut so the cut might be right for you. I haven't seen the jacket you like in person myself, so I can't really judge it... If I were to assess it in person, I would look at the zippers - are they too shiny, to rough or nice and expensive looking? - and I would feel the leather to see if it feels sturdy enough/has the feel that I want. How does it look from the back? Does it have any nice details? Or does it look very boring/less expensive from the back? And look at the stitching! Especially on the shoulder details, but also check the lining and around the zippers. I have bought HM items in the past that just fell apart when I removed a loose thread:doh: You will see when you try it on if it fits right:flower:

Caramel: The autumn in me is just screaming for deeper colors:lol:

Ta-ta: I think I am somewhere between a warm spring and autumn. I am probably a spring in the spring and a autumn in the autumn:D I noticed one of the color charts listed a shade of burgundy as one of my worst colors - not true at all. It doesn't make my skin look sick and it really pops against my hair.
