The 4-5 piece French wardrobe #9

I bought way too many pieces last year and made a lot of bad purchasing decissions. This year I wanted to do different, and decided a monthly shopping budget for myself. So far, I have been keeping it. The other day I checked my pinterest to see how many pieces I have bought this year and compare it to last year. From January through May last year I bought no less than pieces 24 (which is a lot more than what I want to/feel like is warranted). The same number for this year is 11, so I am quite happy and hoping to keep this going.

While trying to compile a capsule wardrobe for Summer it dawned on me that I only have one bottom that I actually like wearing; my lightwash kick flare jeans. I do not feel like I need a lot since I just like wearing dresses more, appearently. However, I either need to stop buying seperates all together or find just one or two options more to go with all the tops I have. I am thinking about getting a wrap skirt, since I am having a hard time finding a skirt silhouette I like and feel like is flattering. I like wrap dresses, so I suppose a wrap skirt will work for me as well. Any suggestions for skirts (specific skirts or cuts) will be greatly appreciated though. I used to be all about a-line, flared skirts, but I feel like I look too young and girly for my age, when wearing them now.

^ Have you tried a pencil cut?

I guess I have about 3 styles right now ... pencil/column, A-line, and full pleated. Or is that 4? In the past I had a godet skirt I really loved, but they're hard to find. I actually still have it, but it no longer fits. I remember wearing it when visiting colleges with my little brother ... I wore it to the one he ended up choosing.

24 :o  That's two years for me ...

I can't offer any imput regarding skirt shapes. I am a shorts and trousers kind of woman. Can I sell you on a pair of shorts?

I think Isabel Marant etoile had a printed silk wrap skirt last summer, and the brand Rouje has one that looks suspiciously like the Isabel Marant skirt this season. IM actually does a lot of wrap skirts, some can probably be found second hand  What kind of color would it need to be to go with all your tops (assuming colors matter to you)?

I hav 11 items if I exclude underwear, plain tees and my work wear capsule for the intership i did back in January... I have been buying cheaper items because I am also broker than ever, and I can already see the disadvantages. When I bought 24 euro tees (in the sales), not 10 euro tees I felt safe they would last a year of heavy wear, at a minimum. Now, I am hoping they will hold up one season... I can't wait to get a job!

In my experience, jan-may is where I shop the most though. Snapping up winter-items in the sales and preparing for summer.

Not exactly what I am going for. Pencil skirts are a nightmare since my waist and hips require different sizes. I think I am aiming for something less formal.

What is a godet Skirt? Seems like it has served you well.

Yup, it is waaaay too much.

No Chance! I gave up in shorts years ago.

I actually have my eyes on an IM skirt. Waiting too see if it will be marked down in the sales. I looked through the 2nd hand sites but weren't able to find anything relevant in my size. Most of my tops are pretty basic but since it will be the only skirt in my wardrobe I think I will try to find something black. The rouje skirt is gorgeous though but unfortunately sold out in my size.

I count everything, basics and accessories included, except for underwear and hosiery. And yeah - the boots I bought at the beginning of the year looks quite worn already. I would have been better of saving my money and getting something in a higher quality.

I also finally updated my wishlist after a few months of just going with the flow. Currently it is looking like this:

SS17
- Skirt
- Sandals - either something Mansur Gavriel/Marais USA-like or a pair of ancient greek sandals. I cannot really figure out which style will work best in the long run

AW17
- Good boots
- Blazer
- Perhaps a basic wool sweater (probably black)

I am also still eyeing the realisation par dresses, but that is definetely more a want than a need kinda thing ATM.

I did a Konmari attempt and was surprised that clothes that bring me joy are those in black (obvious), navy (of course) and RUST ORANGE!!

I always thought am a Deep Winter, but apparently am a Deep Autumn!

Thankfully black and white are acceptable for both color scheme.

Will also change position in my office from corporate to government lobbyist, which means a lot of traditional cloth / batik dresses here. Thankfully I love batik and had a good stacks already.

Did not dare yet to make FW wizhlist u til I know the situation in my new position.

I am a soft autumn so a Rust brown is one of my best colors  Navy and black are among my worst though!

Did you do a traditional seasonal color analysis, or did you base your season based on the colors that spark joy?

Congrats on the new job!:flower:

thank you, eizhowa.

indeed i do read if you are a soft, strong colors like black or navy are suppose to be too strong for you. but you must've look like sungoddess in soft warm palette, which makes deep autumn looks bleh and jaundiced. i wonder if you only wear colors in your season, or do you mix in other colors as well? i wonder how to do that without looking blah.

a bit off topic, but have you checkedt modern renaissance aishadow palette from anastasia? i loooove the colors on it so much, and i assume it would be so pretty on all warm girls.

we have 30 degree sunny wether all year long, so my palette is not season based. howvere, the colors that i love are actually the vivid colors that are in my season. well, except fuchsia that looks odd to me. does your color change as per SS and AW?

I love all the "boring" colors in my season:D I don't really wear much colors, but the "colors" I prefer are medium grey, soft whites as well as rust/browns. I have been trying to stop wearing black next to the face because I don't find it as flattering. I have always been drawn to colors that already exist in my natural colors, so I don't have many vividly colored pieces that overpower me:smile: But I have bought a bright red jumper that I intend to wear with a red lip at casual chritsmas gatherings. In that context I don't really care if the color is a bit too bright.

I googled the palette, and all the colors of eyeshadows I own can be found in that palette. I don't tend to wear eyeshadow though, because I hardly have any visible eyelid space... Makes it sort of pointless to bother with it.

We pretty much have the same weather all year round where I live as well (except it is more in the 5-15 degree range) so the colors I like to wear do not really change. I pretty much dress for mid-september every day of the year

You can wear eyeshadow on more than your lid though

A godet shape is a narrow column with a dramatic flare at the bottom, kind of like a peplum.

Where can I take the most accurate test of which "season" I am? I think I'm soft Spring, but not completely sure. One thing I am sure of is that suggested colours would be completelly out of my prefered palette.

^ I am Autumn, and I can tell you for sure that it's a big challenge finding the colors if you're not Winter, or perhaps Summer. I know that black isn't the most flattering next to my face, and that's becoming more true as I get older, but black is kind of irreplaceable and has its own advantages.

I have my own ideas about which colors are best on me, and I do have those colors in my closet. But I found the color system ... confining. The other thing is that when they put together the palettes, my impression is they're eliminating colors that might be great, but don't go with the overall scheme. I don't want to eliminate good colors like that ...

Well I took about a hundred tests, read a few books, decided they were all wrong and made an educated guess.

We've probably discussed this before, but how do you guys navigate between wants and needs? I am obsessed with the cult gaia ark bag atm - I cannot remember the last time an item spoke to me like this. Also I find it very timeless due to the vintage look even if it is a very "now" item. It is not very practical, my hubby thinks it is silly, and I can see that it is probably better suited for another climate than what I live in. At the same time I do not have any other things that I NEED right now and I firmly believe in buying what you love. I would love to hear the thoughts of you guys (gals  )
NAP says it will be available again on Friday morning/tomorrow. See below. :flower:

Ugh, that could have saved me a whole lot of trouble (and money). I ordered it on the official website a few weeks ago and will receive it tomorrow, hopefully.

Thx though :flower:

^ Well, be sure to post a pic

I'm planning to order the statement sweater (item on my list) I've been watching on Yoox as it has now been marked down significantly from its original over 100% of retail price  I've been thinking about it for sometime, so I think I should get it. I like this print better than the ones in stores now ... even though they're beautiful, this is the one I want to wear. (You know how picky I am about prints!!)

I'm curious too, the black version looks very sleek, like it.
