The Business of Magazines

Either Sally left because she doesn't see a future in magazines and wants to do more contributing work elsewhere, or she's getting ready to snatch a lucrative position. No one leaves without a plan.

Or she felt without power, vc every favorite of Anna became EIC and she stay in the same position like forever

That was very likely a contributor to her decision (or even the main one), but I don't think anyone at a glossy would just leave because they felt powerless at their job without first securing a back up. I'm sure she has planned her next career move and will resurface somewhere nice soon.

Not really, she left Vogue years ago to be the EIC of T Magazine, then came back with a different role.

Thanks for the Fabien interview, Benn. He simply makes common sense as to why the print industry is gasping its last breath. It astounds me how the majority of editors cannot see what logical people can.

And this from WWD should be printed and hung on every creative’s space as a reminder to what fascism does to individuality:

WWD: We can blame President Trump for a lot. But this is coming from woke cancel culture. It’s not coming from the Trump side.
Its not necessarily fascism, its any totalitarian ideology really. How many cases of cancel culture do you see coming from the right? Almost zero. This culture has made its way into many US magazine publications as well. I wonder how many people actually buy into their political articles, because its a bunch of crazy reactionary crap.

Nobody can think logically because everyone in them is illogically trying to keep their jobs. In this desperate attempt its all about outrage, and searching for the next person to cancel next, or the next insane view to one up.

And I dare say that whoever runs the publication part of this website also plays into such shenanigans.

They behave the same as the culture-crushing Red Guards...

That WWD bravely stating it’s the SJW cancel culture mob that’s lynching anyone that doesn’t toe their conservative, homogenized, strict, socialist ideology is such a moment for a fashion entity, a s far as I’m concerned. A very brave truth of a statement to make in a time when huge conglomerates kowtow to these fascist (new) Red Guards killing creativity like a plague.

Well the right are trying to cancel gay rights, women’s rights, trans rights, immigrant rights... I could go on...

^^^ Then SJW should be fighting these issues in the political arena against the proper opponent-- not fingerwag their petty shallow virtual signalling demands on the fashion industry.

You have no idea what cancel culture is.

Yeah I was quite surprised WWD said that.

Tonne Goodman is the Sustainability Editor for Vogue now.

Is she in charge of making sure that the magazine is zero waste? What an unnecessary post.

However, Tonne Goodman, in addition to Amy Astley are both the ones to watch. These two are likely being groomed to succeed Anna.

What does a sustainability editor do? Build stories around green clothing? Make sure that there is a certain percentage of green luxury pieces in each issue of Vogue? I wouldn't want that job because it's tricky. You have to really dig deep into the practice of brands and not just take their word that they're running a transparent and sustainable business. I would have thought Tonne shooting covers alone, excluding edits, would keep her busy enough. And now this.

This title sounds really flimsy, like the sort of job Conde Nast would give to Bea Schaffer...

And take note Benn, the position is not a Conde Nast post, it was created for Vogue. Odd.

I don't get why they had to make a post for her. She's still the fashion editor for the last 3 issues right? So she still contributes.

Why "leave", only to stay, then return for a new position. Fishy.
