The Business of Magazines

Yesterday Edward Enninful was in Milan during the Photo Vogue Festival...he didn't say that much new....besides that he stand by his choice of the feb 22 cover with the black models even it received some negative comments....he said he noticed a lot of african models on the catwalk and that's how he got the idea and he didn't want color on them because the idea years ago is to put color on black models because "it looks good" i guess he is referring to some racism in the industry. Also according to him is the second highest selling issue of this year...

He mentioned briefly Franca Sozanni and named her one of his mentors...

And he talked about the meaning of the Vogue cover now: before it means aspirational and a fantastic dream, now it has to be a realistic attainable dream...that anyone can be identified with no matter your race, sexual orientation, age,etc...that the Inclusivity factor is predominant now.

also he mentioned he didn't like shock pictures just for the sake of it....it needs a meaning...not only being provocative just for being provocative, that doesn't work for him.

That was the most interesting thing i think he said, but also because the moderator was very lame and did a lot of kiss-*** questions....and also it was short only 40 mins...

The interesting part of the exhibition is that there is a section dedicated to the vogue covers and shows 27 covers (for the 27 editions of Vogue) and also there is a table with the october and some november issues of the 27 editions for people to check and read...a lot of them i never saw them before so that was interesting for me...

I was going to ask a question but my shyness won....but i want to ask how exactly he manage to overview the european editions and how is the process of making the issues with the different Head of Editorial Content from each country.

if anyone is in the city the festival is until sunday...

That feb cover was good, Adut's one is one of his best this year. Don't get the negative point there.

I’m old enough to remember when American and British Vogue were biweekly and the size of a small poster. I also remember when so many of the Italian and French magazines were weekly or biweekly. Magazines are dying a not so slow death.

Anna Wintour wrote on her editors of The december Issue of Vogue tha The january and february Issue will be a combined Issue know as The winter Issue.

We're now used to seeing a lot of magazines ten times a year, usually following the traditional French model of Dec-Jan and Jun-Jul issues... but to name your combined month the Winter issue makes it sound more like those magazines that come out two to four times a year.

Next monday December 5th will be the launch of Bazaar Italia

It’s really a relaunch. It’s odd that they are acting as if Harper’s Bazaar Italia never existed. I made the cover of it in 1978. What was that?

Wasn't she a key figure in putting together Kanye West's infamous "White Lives Matter" show a couple of months ago?

“I’m excited to take on this new role and will work to deliver fresh creativity to the covers of Vogue Australia and across every page of the magazine, championing and nurturing inspiring design and exceptional fashion in Australia and internationally; celebrating interesting people, their achievements and ideas with compassion, intelligence and humour; and naturally exploring gender and always championing diversity and originality. Vogue Australia must always be the authority on fashion and a reflection of the times.”

McCann said: “After more than ten years editing the magazine, I am thrilled Christine has agreed to expand her role and look forward to seeing the next chapter of Vogue Australia magazine’s rich history unfold. “We have worked together for more than 13 years and Christine is my natural choice to succeed me in this role. While I will continue as the magazine’s editorial director and publisher, this change will allow me to focus on our expanding and successful Prestige publishing business at News Corp Australia, which also includes Conde Nast titles GQ Australia and Vogue Living.”

In addition, McCann also announced Jessica Montague, current deputy editor of Vogue Australia, has been promoted to the new role of executive editor of the brand. She will increase her remit with this new role by supporting Centenera in the magazine and also McCann in the expanding digital, audio, e-commerce and experiential categories. “Jessica is an accomplished journalist and team leader who contributes to all our content platforms and campaigns such as Vogue Codes,” said McCann. “Together these appointments strengthen our local market leadership in the Prestige category, enhance Vogue Australia magazine’s international standing, and usher in a new generation of talented editorial leaders for our business.”

Vogue Australia is the most-read print and digital fashion media brand in the country with a readership of 908,000 and a social footprint of more than 2.9 million, according to the latest research insights by Roy Morgan.

Vogue Australia magazine appoints Christine Centenera as its editor-in-chief

next chapter of Vogue Australia magazine’s rich history

Rich with reprinted content she had no hand in making. Does anyone honestly care about these changes nowadays when individual editors have little to no impact on their magazine? It's not like there's individual identity between different editions of any Condé Nast magazine anymore. Pathetic of them to pretend otherwise.

Let's see if she goes to the Vogue Portugal route or the commercial US/UK way.
