The Chelsea Girl Look

OMG, I agree. I don't see Lindsay and Chelsea Girl in the same sentence.

Which celebrities do you think are the epitome of the Chelsea Girl look?

I don't think any current celebrities. And that's good..

While I wear a lot of what's posted on this thread, I hate pigeon-holding my style.. but I don't think any one person is the epitome of a certain look..

i love this style
the original 60's mary quant way i mean..and the icons of that time's way

not sure about how the deisngers do it these days
this look is here in north america for fall i suppose..i saw a sewing pattern in simplicity that translated to me as the chelsea look

i love love love this look the way it's described in this thread. but on wikipedia it says this:

"A Chelsea girl (also Chelsea, skinhead girl, or skingirl) is a girl or woman who is part of the skinhead subculture. The term refers to her hairstyle, which entails shaving the crown and occiput of her head and leaving the front, back and often the sides as fringes. The hairstyle can also be called a feather cut.

Although more common in America than in the UK, the term originates from the fact that it was a style first commonly seen on the Kings Road, in Chelsea, London, England. The Kings Road from the 1960s until the mid-Eighties was widely known as a haunt for punks, mods, skinheads, etc. The subsequent "gentrification" of the area around the King's Road has left only one monument to these times: Ad-Hoc, a clothes shop."

i love all the pics in this thread though. if that's what the 'chelsea girl style' is then i love it. if it is what wikipedia says then... it's not really my thing. :flower:

I read through this thread but I have to admit that I didn't get it 100%...what exactly makes a Chelsea-girl-look ? Sorry for asking but I somehow don't get it....

I think that Skinheads and Chelsea girls are from the same generation, but i don't think they are the same thing.
IMO Chelsea girl is more Mod, and Mary Quant. You know?
Skinheads, like it says in your Wickipedia reference, are found more commenly in America, and Chelsea Girl is more British.
So I don't think that they are the same at all.

I think Chelsea Girl is more of a feeling, the way you wear your clothes. But it is also some specific items of clothing that you wear. Like knit dresses, some skinny jeans, skinny scarves, baker boy hats, kohl eyeliner, Slouchy boots. You know?
Do you have any more questions that I might be able to answer, I hope I answered this one for you.
:)

haha that is so wierd..after looking at this thread i looked it up and when i saw that one wikepedia..i was pretty confused^_^...can someone post more pictures because sometimes i think i get this look but then when i try to actually go out and find clothes it just doesnt seem to work

I have posted all of the pictures in my resources at the moment. But if someone else has some they would like to post it would be greatly appriciated.

I really like the first one and I do think that it is very chelsea. I wasn't so sure about the collection as a whole but when i just looked over it again I see it now. Good job Rubie Girl. You picked out a winner and thanks for posting the pictures because I don't have anymore to post at the time. :D

i was recently lookin thru the VOGUE magazine... the one Kate Hudson is on... they do have a couple of excellent Chelsea Girl looks.. tho not so perfect... but u get the point as well as the inspiration~ im definitely wanting to buy the magazine

I LOVE the Chelsea look. It just seems so much more refreasing compare to all these high fashioned/ugly clothes that seem to be hitten the spot. Plus, it gives me the chance to knit more scarfs! :D

Btw, why IS it called the Chelsea look? I know a girl that goes to my school named Chelsea.

Sienna or Mary-Kate (or at least she used to be at one point). Could you imagine Paris Hilton trying to be Chelsea?
