The Curvy Thread

Thanks! It's a great collection of tips although I've never gotten wrap tops to work for me.

I love wacoal bras for most busty girls. personally i splurge on fantasie, elle, and british made bras. i suggest to do the same if you have a small back size.

I second that. Wacoal bras are great for me, too. I'm 5'2" and wear a (US sized) 32F, by the way.

My body type is: BUSTY.

When shopping, I...

1. MUST have the proper fitted bra. A bra-fitting is a MUST. I had an excellent bra-fitting at Nordstorm, and a decent experience at this place called "Intimacy" as well. (I don't recommend Victoria's Secret for fittings--heard very negative things about getting fitted there). A large percentage of women are wearing the wrong sized bra (I was). It makes such a BIG difference in how your clothes fit and feel when wearing the proper bra.

2. whenever possible, do what I can to draw attention to the bottom half of my body and take attention away from the top half since I am so much bigger on the top. I tend to wear very thin, fitted (but not tight) tops, and thicker/heavier materials on the bottom. I also like to try dark or neutral, plain and solid tops, paired with printed and/or brighter colored bottoms (again to draw attention away from the top and create the illusion of a more proportioned figure)

3. needless to say, do not wear any super tight fitted tops. None of those small-holed t-shirts (just can't do it). No super heavy knitted and/or turtleneck tops. DEFINITELY can't do the cowl-neck. All of these things just make me look even more busty.

4. even though I'm short, instead of buying "short" jeans/pants all the time, I like to wear the regular sized ones, with heels because, quite naturally, this adds height to my body.

5. have alot of V-necks! Not to say you have to wear these all the time, but as a busty woman, I can say that compared to other cuts, the V-neck is usually quite flattering on me :D

BUMP -- I've been looking for this thread!

I'm currently re-doing my wardrobe and getting rid of everything that I own that doesn't flatter me. And that's a lot of things. Previously, I've tried to dress like I had more of a straight shape - loose tops, tight pants and so forth, but I finally realized how awkward I looked. I'm 5'7 and my current measurements are 35-25-36, so a there's a definite curve factor.

I'm starting to really love thin, drape-y material, especially for summer. Anything that can be layered and belted, without creating unnecessary bulk -- but things that aren't too tight.

Right now I'm looking for summer dresses and light blouses that fit that description -- any recommendations?

I'm hopeless concerning dresses so I'd like to get some recommendations too. I'm bigger in the bust area than on my hips and I find it hard to find things that minimizes the bust and hides my tummy yet shows off my waist :innocent:

timber, suggest taking a look at 3.1 Philip Lim ... I bought one of his blouses this season, and it fits your description.

All of that may not be possible  Spanx and a belt, perhaps? I really prefer separates ... I think I've got one evening dress in my closet, and I haven't worn it in awhile ... so it is perfectly possible to live without them

I usually end up with separates too - I have got dresses but the tend to end up just collecting dust :innocent: As for belts - it's a bit embarrassing but I think I'm afraid of them  When I wear them it feels like I'm emphasizing by belly instead of showing off my waist. I wonder if i'm simply using the wrong sort of belt

^ It may be that belts are not for everyone  I don't find them very comfortable ...

Me neither.

I'm actually stuck in a style-rut at the moment. I find it very hard getting my looks to be.. well - looks. It always looks like I just threw on some clothes  My shape - bigger on top - doesn't go with what's in the stores either. I usually end up with a simple t-shirt or v-neck which would be fine if I knew how to "jazz" it up so it doesn't look boring. How do you do that? Any tips? Any books, blogs or magazines that works well as inspiration for a curvy figure? My husband says I need better shoes - you've got to love that :D Now I just need to learn how to buy good shoes :ninja:

^ Well, we can definitely help with that :D There's a yay/nay shoe thread that might be helpful to you. I actually think that heels are a huge help when you're curvy ... something else you might do is trying participating in the Polyvore threads for practice creating outfits.

What I do I guess is start with a key piece and then add building block pieces that I know all work the way I want them to.

Good thread...............just found it:flower:

Does curvy + shorter skirts match?

I have pretty defined legs and thighs and always stuck to skirts that go to my knees. I would like to wear something shorter every now and then (no higher than mid thigh) but wondering if it would look odd with my muscular (naturally muscular , but I do work out a lot too).

Thoughts? Opinions?

^ I don't think muscles look odd at all ... what I think looks odd are toothpicks protruding from a skirt :P

^^

LOL, you crack me up!

I will just have to try it and see what happens. :innocent:

I think it depends of the skirt and what shoes one wears. I've got quite muscular legs too but that mostly makes me careful about what shoes I wear, not so much the skirt if that makes any sense

^^

I tend to wear flats with shorter skirts. Today I'm wearing a shoter tulip skirt (Nanette Lepore so its not that short) with flats that tie around the ankles (forgot the name of that style)

That sounds like a great look

Does anyone know where I can get good jeans for an hourglass figure?

Dresses are frustrating...I have big boobs,a small waist and big hips and no one size fits particularly well, belts are becoming a god-send
