Met a good-looking kid in Boston - where should he apply to model?

Hi there,

Hope I'm in the right thread - I met a tall, lanky, melancholy good-looking Eastern European kid in Boston and I think he might stand a chance as a model. He never considered the idea, but could use the pocket money.

What should he do to get started? He doesn't have a portfolio or anything.

I don't think he has the option of moving to NYC right now, so if there's an agency in Boston that'll probably be his only choice.

Many thanks for your help!

hi, can anyone give an opinion of code models in ny?
model friend from uk i unsigned to an ny agency as yet.
code has shown big interest.
are they any good? also if a model signs with an agency and then it doesnt go well, how easy is it to change agency if you are not a superstar model?
Thanks

Models switch agencies all the time, that's no exeption, almost all models switch some agencies from time to time :flower:
When you are with an agency that doesn't mean you need to stay with them until the end of your career!

does that stand true even if a contract is signed?
thing is, the visa cant be got unless the contract is signed apparently.
Thanks very much for your help x x

it all depends of the level. Procedur cost, and at low level for girls making no monney not much agencies will really fight on the legal side, but fact is that if a girl has an unclear contract situations, it is really not good situation.

at high level, there is also not so often open conflict, most switches are agreed, and this include monney compensations and others stuff. Models contract are rather strong, when a girl switch, the agency she leaves usually makes interesting deal.

That's all I could come up with.
Like maffam said.....just call them and ask them.

I was just trying to help.

Oh I didn't mean it rude! :flower:

But there's gotta be someone with the email address. I mean isn't it weird to call only for an email address?

^Trust me, most agencies have some e-mail address set up for accepting submissions from wannabe models. Whomever answers the phone should be happy to give you an e-mail address for submitting pictures. Agencies get hundreds of calls like that a week, so it won't be weird.

Ive worked at a few model agencies on placement and am soon to work at a newly formed agency (reutable company though) i just wondered how to agencies hear about casting notices and where and when they are happening? A lot of models often appear in films too so they must be castings for auditions too? Thanks

Also how would an agency go about taking a model who isnt doing well off their books- would they review her career and say something like if she doesnt get booked for a number of jobs theyd have to let her go? would this be in the contract or soemthing? Sorry for all the q

1. That's what bookers/agents are for. They act as the go-in-between for clients and models, making sure that the girls that they send for the castings are appropriate for the job, but more importantly that the job is appropriate for them and their careers. Most bookers/agents have a set of contacts at different advertising firms, casting directors, magazines, stylists, photographers, etc who let them know when there are upcoming projects or they seek out the time for castings.

2. Depends on the agency. Generally they're going to review your statement to see whether or not you're making money for the agency or costing them money before they make any other decisions.

In a standard modeling contract, it is stated that the agency can drop the model at any time.
