also to add....
try to take the pics in natural light,no fussy backgrounds, just a blank wall is best, nothing arty, they just want to see what you look like!
Also, some people send in phone pics, i'm sure you know this already, but that's not the greatest idea!
Also, don't forget to shrink your pics, bookers get annoyed when the pics come thru the size of the Northern territory!

haha alright thankyou! i might have a go but since im only young im not sure i want to get into anything too big yet but ill think about it. only one problem with the measurements-just my hip meausrement might be a little too big.

im pretty tall for my age (174cm) so mabye that will help.

i dont think ill get accepted because ive never modelled before so i was thinking mabye a smaller agency? Don't all top agencies mainly take models with experience?

It's good to wait until you are ready absolutely, certainly no rush at all at your age.

The good agencies ofcourse take girls with no experience! THat's called development!

Agencies are more interested in how you look, your stats , height, face than how much modelling experience you have!

You can learn a skill, but you can't change your genetics!

but don't worry, there is no need to even think about it until you know if you have what it takes !!...
and the only way to find that out is to send your pics to the agencies,

If they like you and want take you on, then they will answer your questions!

Thankyou so much for your help. I think i might wait a little bit. By the time im about 5"9.5 Ill probably be ready.

I started modeling when I was about to turn 15, still 14, though, and if an agency likes you and thinks you will grow/mature, then they will stick with you until you do.

I started at 14, 5'8, and now I am 16, 5'10... still with same agency!

Good luck, the advice WC gave you was really good.

My best friends little brother has just been signed to Models One. What exactly should he expect from his new job? He's totally clueless and still wants to work at Diesel. He's an extremely beautiful young man, so I think he's going to get a lot of work....would it be international? He's never even been abroad!

Tell him that he needs to call Models 1 for those questions, because we can't predict his carreer.

By the way... is it too old to start with modelling when you're already 20 years old? (for women)

Fair enough, I just wanted to know what he could possibly expect from it. He's a lovely wee thing, but quite naive about the outside world and I'd hate him to become like most of the idiots I meet from the fashion world who are just so incredible inane and self obsessed.

^^Mikchick, it depends of your look and which agency/market you're targetting :flower:

girl or boy, when an agency signs somebody, it is obviously that it seems they have potential to get " a lot of work".
unfortunatly modeling is not an exact science, the proportion of promising models who finnally achieve something significant in modeling is very very low indeed.

So, let him start, and see how it goes...

and what do you think about Vogue Management from Milano?

low level show-room agency.
I mean show-room is 99% of their acivity, and they dont have the good levels ones, which makes impossible to earn any money even if u work 60 days in 2 months...
nothing really "bad", but clearly the lowest level of modeling.

Notice that there are few more agencies which "seems" better but who at the end just work at that level too, Ice, Urban to name a few.

How is the "mother agency" determined? Is it the first agency a model signs with?

Is it a special kind of contract?

A model does not have to have a mother agency, right?

Can a model change mother agencies?

it is usually the agency who has discovered the girl. That means that most eastern, Brasilian...have usually still thei mother agency in their home country even when they become quiet famous.

It is a special contract, as usually the mother agency has the world exclusiv right on the model, so it is them who decide the girl placement in agencies partners all over the world.

The possibility of changing of mother agency depend of each contract, also in case of good offer, the mother agency can decide just to sell the contract to an agency ready to buy it.
In the big agencies, some, like Next or Women like to be mother agency, so they often offer to buy (or sometimes try to steal...) the contract to the orginal mother agencies, some other like IMG are not much interested by that, and usually deal with the girl's original mother agency during all the model carreer...

What if the agency that discovered you is a agency that allowed you a non-exclusive contract, would the same rules still apply?

as i said each contract can be different.
Also, the mother agency contract is obvioulsy more important for the girls who are discovered in countries where they need to be send abroad to work, as a girl in small Russian village will not have any connection or knowledgment to manage by herself her chance to develop well as model.
In those cases the contract is almost always exclusiv, as to scout and export their girls represent sometimes 100% of the revenue of the "scout" agencies.

For a french or US girl, the need of a mother agency is less obvious, and there is no really agencies specialised in scouting as there are in south america or in eastern countries, so usually the contract for the western girls are less strong regarding the relation with mother agency.
