The New Gothic / Neogoth

Thanks for posting. :flower:

I love the Balenciaga jacket, when I saw that picture, it made me change my mind about the stripey one, I want the black one, it seems more classic, so gorgeous! and I need those leather pants!:o :ninja:

My personal style is however more 'rock, than 'goth' goth is a bit too custome-y for me at times, but I can appreciate that it is beautiful, when done right.:flower:B)

I love the goth influence a lot of designers have been putting on their runways. Myself don't dress goth but sometimes I add some of the influence of my music taste into how I dress. I mostly listen to 80's goth bands for example Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, Joy Division. So that usually gives me this idea of going a little industrial goth. Wearing skinny black jeans, black boots, with just a black t-shirt.
But I also like the victorian goth. Very elegent and very Ann Rice.
Good topic by the way.

Hmm...

True.

Haha, actually you can find something at wikipedia. They have quite a lot of info, including goth music, sush as goth rock and death rock, etc.

*mutters* Who knows what goth is!

I spent a number of years in the goth club scene myself here in Tampa, Fl and I can tell you at least locally how this new goth couture has affected the local scene here...unfortunately, not at all from what I can tell.

My husband and I discuss this frequently since we both come from the "old school" goth scene and we are always disappointed at how the scene evolved from creativity and romance to cyber, fetish, showing lots of skin, and wearing cheap hot topic clothes.

You can even look at gothic beauty magazine, the icon of style for all self proclaimed goths and see that this beautiful elegant couture is hardly affecting the real scene. You will still see ugly baggy black pants, dread falls, goggles, vinyl, rockabilly, and other hot topic clones, nothing like the beautiful threads you all are discussing...at least not here.

Sorry to make this so long but this is one of my favorite discussions and it is my belief that couture goth may be catching on with mainstream fashion culture but not the subculture itself where the scene thrives. Then again, that could completely be a demographic thing, like I said.

i guess im just so sick of all the high schoolers dressing 'goth' that even though this new version is much classier and geared toward people who arent just crying about how bad they think their lives are, I still dont like it.

excuse me...
but perhaps you are in the wrong thread...
there is already another thread about GOTH...
WE know what goth is...

this thread is a bit more refined, intellectual and grown up...
with literary and gothic influences from theh turn of the century...
GOTHIC...

nothing to do with the annoying high school goths...
it's all defined clearly earlier in the thread...

Artist-designer Rob Teeters creates thought provoking design sometimes based on aesthetics alone but often combined with subtle art. Case in point: Mirroir Noir above. "Colors and details are intentionally hidden. Imperfections are invisible. Only a gently detailed silhouette is reflected."

Bumping this thread to bring it back to the present time. This way the server switching error will be undone.

^ That's really cute but I don't think everyone can carry it off. One would have to have a certain fresh-faced look I think otherwise it would look like that person is in denial about aging...

yes-> ....:lol:...

it's def a very 'young' look...:p

An interesting jacket I came across with the cross layering around the shoulders.
