The Official Harry Potter Thread

at the beginning the daily prophet thing...noticed it too, especially bad because the girl mentioned it and i was so excited because i always loved the moving pictures

I kind of assumed that since Harry was reading the Daily Prophet in the presence of Muggles, the pictures wouldn't move, but perhaps I'm just making that up.

I do hope that since they've insisted on doing Deathly Hallows in two movies, that they'll at least do a more true-to-book adaptation.

I think HBP was good as just a movie, but not very good in terms of the adaptation. I was hoping for the full battle at the end, not just that little snape-harry tiff on the grounds.

When did Tom Felton become so attractive? He was especially good, as was Ron. Hermione did better, but I still feel like the scene where she was crying over Ron with Harry was a bit forced.

I felt so cheated that Ron and Hermione didn't kiss once. I guess we'll have to wait for Deathly Hallows.

I see the movie tomorrow at 11:50 a.m. I'm really excited! I hope it's good. ^_^

Although after reading peoples comments, it makes me nervous as to whether it will be or not.

But the girl said something like "Once i even thought the pics were moving...thought i was going mental" (something along those lines...i've only seen it in german) to which harry put down the paper...

and although the scene was ok, that girl was way too hot for potter:lol:

i'm thinking about going again tonight, to watch it again without comparing it to the book so much...just enjoy it for what it is

which is the way book adaptions should always be watched imho!! they cannot put everything in a movie and movies don't claim to translate the book one-to-one if you know what i mean, they're just interpretations of the books anyway!

sorry for the rant, i'm just getting tired of people complaining that certain things were left out... of course you can discuss whether they put relevant things in the movie and whether very important thing were left out, but generally speaking it's inevitable...
i just wish more people would enjoy the movie for what it is and stop scrutinizing it and comparing it to the book too much!

well i loved all the other movies and thought they were well done adaptations, this is just my least favourite movie but one of my favourite books

and normally i don't really care that much about the things they leave out, because it is just an adaptation in the end...but they left out crucial parts (to me anyways) and put in completely unimportant things, which seriously annoys me.

but again, i have to watch it in english, the german translations butchers movies anyways, maybe i'll like it better afterwards...

and I am getting tired of having to turn off the part of me who knows and loves the books and wonder wtf they are doing.

Adaptations are getting worse and worse. Directors used to care about staying true to the books and now they could care less.

Adding stuff that does not belong should not be done. That screen time should be used for the book scenes. Honestly it's stupid what they decide to put in and what to leave out.

and that is my rant.

Good news is that it wasn't as bad as Twilight :P

I can't wait! I'm watching it tomorrow evening, at 10 pm! But I know that it's completely impossible for a HP movie to be near as good as the books, so my expectations aren't that high!:p

I just saw it last night.

CORMAC = TOTAL CUTIE (he reminds me of a younger Ryan Philippie)

HARRY & GINNY = NO CHEMISTRY

GREAT ACTING BY TOM FELTON & ALAN RICKMAN

And boy, I did not expect I'd be tearing up when Dumbledore died. This is the first time I've cried at an HP movie. lol

Aw don't let the comments affect you! I agree that we should view the movie as an independent entity instead of comparing it to the books verbatim. Although personally I think HBP is not that great as a movie installment either, it is definitely something you would enjoy as you watch it; just don't ponder over it. And ignore my following complaints.

I tried my best to ignore the canon, but I am really bugged by the whole thing with Tom Riddle. Why did Dumbledore announce the true identity of Tom Riddle in front of the whole school? Does it not negate the secret mission he has been embarking on? What if Death Eaters in school heard this and reported back to Voldemort? And why on earth the 2 people most related to Riddle acted like a block of wood when Dumbledore announced this? I'm looking at you Ginny:innocent: Where is the drama queen?

oh i just remembered that after the movie ended, my friend (who has never read the books) asked me, "so who's this half-blood prince?" for being in the title of a movie, there was little to no explanation of it.

I saw it last night and can honestly say that I loved it. The atmosphere in the Cinema was electric.
I didn't like the idea of Harry and Ginny. Where was Cho?
Hermonie and Ron was kinda weird, but cute at the same time.
There wasn't a dry eye when Dumbledore died

they did tell about the half-blood prince.
but with the title, i can understand it being a bit confusing, since they left out a lot concerning the half-blood prince.

^ There is no explanation at all..No hint from Snape that he's familiar with the Sectumsempra spell :ermm: I don't think those who haven't read the book will understand.

hm?! but snape said it in the end...didn't he? something like "oh, btw, i'm the half-blood prince". it was horribly done and no real explanation why he is but as far as i can remember he mentioned it in the end

yes, and he also did say that he was the inventor of sectumsempra.

i don't get it why they never explained why he called himself the half-blood prince.

I don't know how we're dealing with spoilers here...I guess anyone who hasn't seen it shouldn't read this...

Personally, I loved it. It was nothing like the book, but I've come to expect that; I go into the movies with a completely different set of standards and expectations.

I do wish they had kept some (or any, really) of the original Harry/Ginny scenes...it seemed like they invented all new ones for no reason.

Still, I found them sweet and endearing as a couple, particularly the scene in the room of requirement. I really love Bonnie Wright; she seemed awkward but I chose to view it as part of the scenes.

It was definitely the funniest movie so far...my favorite part was Harry under the luck potion...Radcliffe's action was fantastic there. :woot:

agreed. i felt like they should have explained it at least for those who didnt read the books. i hope they clear it up in DH.

I didn't like it at all, unfortunately. I found it really boring and there was not one second where I was emotionally uninvolved. I have no complaints about the adaptation, though the whole Half-Blood Prince thing fell a bit short, but it was all so lifeless in a way.

I won't rant now, but what seriously gets to me is Harry's face whenever magic is performed. Dude, you're attending a school for magic for five years now and you still make a face like a twelve-year old girl who just ran into Robert Pattinson everytime someone performs it. Get over it, please.

I didn't like the idea of Harry and Ginny. Where was Cho?

From your comment I'm taking it that you haven't read the books (sorry if you have).

Cho is old news. Harry and Cho fell apart (to use Harry's words in the HBP book) and in the OtOP movie she betrayed Dumbledore's Army by telling Dolores Umbridge about them so Harry was all GTFO when she tried to apologies.

Harry and Ginny has been coming since the first book (well to me it has. Hermione is the sister/mother relationship to him and meant to be with Ronald). There are hints all the way through the series for both couples. I agree with Day they should have kept the original Harry/Ginny scenes especially the kiss in the common room.

Please nobody take offence to this but I find the thought of Harry ending up with Hermione or Luna to be ludicrous. Especially Luna.

As to where was Cho in HPB movie well I was wondering that too because Katie "can't remember her last name" said she was going to be in HPB and her name was on IMDB before it come out. Cutting room floor perhaps.

^I haven't read the books, no. Thanks very much for the explanation! :flower:
