I think the name(ok, maybe nickname) of this collection is I Love Lucy, Tom Ford said so in an article from Vogue China March 2011 issue. It's a name of TV series that inspires him.

It should be called, 'I love trend reports' because I think that Tom Ford's reentry into womenswear is due to his aesthetic coming back into vogue and him deciding to not let that opportunity pass him by, which there is nothing wrong with, I just wished that the clothes had more of modernity and oomph. Having said that the shoes and accessories are fantabulous and do have modernity and oomph, and knowing him that is probably not accidental, he probably put his effort (either as the designer or the overseerer) on the stuff that really sells.

A decade later...It seems like the presentation of this collection is more relevant and needed than. What felt pretentious 10 years ago might be refreshing today...

^ I was thinking the same, just looking at this collection last week. Ironically (or sadly?) I remember some talk from back then, from ten years ago, that he wanted to show this way because fashion needed to calm down and there was need for fashion to be more exclusive, to have less shows and less hype and press. Well, did anything change to fit that good intention? No. Even Tom had to drop this private show format rather quickly.

While this collection is very excessive and over the top in some ways, what I like about this show is that by putting those women to model for him makes it feel somehow "real" and gives the collection a meaning and purpose. After all, his clients are rich women and celebrities, who might actually have a chance to look and dress like this in their lives. When he puts this same thing on 18-year-old models, styled by Carine, and shows it in a big show space for cameras and rows of people, it suddenly feels very superficial and irrelevant.

Hard agree. His shows feel repetitive now. Predictible and boring. They all look the same. It's formulaic. It feels like it's more about making money than putting out great clothes.

I loved this Spring 2011 show. It's my favourite of his. It really set the tone fof what was to come. Having celebrities and super models walk his show was a great idea. Very glamorous. Very Tom. I'm only missing Gisele.
