UK Vogue January 2020 : Taylor Swift by Craig McDean

Love the pic despite her hair (what's with magazines being unable to find proper hairstyles for their cover subjects lately??), but how is she any relevant at this moment in time? If you're giving out celebrity covers, at least choose someone relevant who's interesting enough to appear on such a big platform. The cover itself looks very fan-made American Vogue, but Edward repeating his coverstars on exact months every two years? Could he be any more desperate to make this the #NewAmericanVogue? Lame.

Sadly I think it's what did she do to her face, not what did they do. She's had some pretty noticeable work done to her face/teeth/boobs.

The pink shot is sensational (very Bond girl) and was the cover, not the one where they dressed her like a 70 year old woman in Chanel.

I don’t understand why you believe her to be irrelevant. She continues to outsell the vast majority of artists, helps inspire her fans to take political action (voter registrations increased by tens of thousands when she encouraged her fans to vote), she’s starring in a major movie coming out (I think it will flop but it’s still relevant and will be widely discussed), and she continues to ruffle feathers within the music industry establishment. Anytime she does something it makes headlines. Not saying anyone has to like her or find her interesting, but I don’t know how someone can make the claim she’s irrelevant.

Oops, forgout about Cats. Guess it makes more sense considering the movie, but I still find her boring and irrelevant as a cover subject right now (or any other time for that matter). The only way she makes headlines nowadays is by stirring the same old Kanye West pot over and over again. If it's not Kanye, it's some other drama. It's tiring and in my point of view, not Vogue cover material. But that might be just silly old hater in me, lol

In all fairness, she was just named Artist of the decade at the AMAs last week, became the most awarded artist in their history and she is not embroiled in Kanye drama right now but something much more impactful that is bound to have a ripple effect on the entire music industry. Plus Cats. Sure, Taylor can seem annoying sometimes but I’d argue she’s still very much relevant, if not more than before.

So sick of her, but my god, this is easily the best cover she has done! The Bardot make-up actually works on her, especially with this styling.

Yea! I like when Taylor goes Bardot, its perfect.
Im not sick of her, she is by far my favorite guilty pleasure, but maybe if she really want to gain more fashion territory in the EU countries she should try something less literal and I know I just said that I love the Bardot thing, its just that Taylor used to be THE american swetheart, I used to love her style back in 2011-2014, but now its kinda trivial and people are NOT buying it, she used to be a fashion force.

The cover has a US Vogue feel but i like it. The art direction is terrible as always, the placement of those coverlines alone is enough to make my eye twitch.

My main question is...they took the instagram post down because of the date typo. Did they send it to the printers like this too? Quite a big mistake for no one to notice.

I actually think she looks great here! Editorial is horrid but the cover is a nice image of her

Love it! I donty think they photoshopped her tis the Bardot-esque styling and makeup. Way better than her US Vogue

I think this kind of styling for the cover would have worked better with luigi&Iango...This is their thing.
There’s something missing from this cover...

Is Edward as underwhelmed as we are by Virginie’s work to put a Karl’s era Chanel jacket on the cover?
I think it’s Prefall Paris NYC2006...
It’s weird...considering how hard they are trying to push Virginie...

I like the combination of the styling and the backdrop. It has this timeless feeling that I rarely got from Edward’s non-Meisel covers. However, she doesn’t look like herself here. At first glance, I thought it was Margot Robbie.

Yeah, no. You're definitely out of touch with pop culture if you think Taylor Swift is in ANY way irrelevant right now. There's the new CATS movie, AMA's Artist of the Decade, the Scooter Braun Drama, and rumors about a new album making the rounds already.

Taylor Swift in Chanel? Vintage Chanel? Does she ever wear Chanel in her entire career?
sth i would never expect in a million years, but i love this surprising styling. That jacket gonna go crazy in vintage market soon.

This cover, well, maybe the best during her LOVER era, so i won't judge.

Well, since another Métiers d'Art collection is coming, this may consider a preheat by reviving another iconic MDA item.
and Honestly, I don't think Chanel is pushing Virginie, i don't see an overwhelming exposure for her collections, not like LV pushing Nicolas back to his debut. I think the brand is just doing its usual media and marketing strategy, it takes time to fade Karl's shadow, we all know that

The cover looks very posh Chanel socialite, but in the editorial she looks like an early 90s bombshell model form the Schiffer/Pestova/Mazza fold. Nowhere does she look like herself. Do like the set of her editorial, but not the cover.

Very odd that Taylor got her second January cover when just this month Lizzo had to share with Emma.

Yikes! Literally, Taylor who? She doesn’t look like herself! Why edit someone as beautiful as her to filth? This is as bad as her Vogue Australia cover! Terrible.

the art direction is terrible as usual. I take offense with magazines sharing fonts with their competitors.

No other VOGUE edition will EVER TOP Alexandra Shulman’s cover with Taylor Swift! That was magical, fresh, and a new side of Taylor we haven’t seen at the time.

PS, maybe the Vogue UK Staffer can share an insight on how reckless were they to upload a cover image with the wrong date :)

It's like Blake Lively for Chanel......
I do get the impression that Virginie is trying to move away from the whole literal Chanel spiel, but how can that be successful if magazines continue to go back to the codes? Chanel should close off their archival looks just like Balenciaga did when Wang was there.

This is actually the first time under Edward where a brand's codes are displayed so prominently and almost dominate the subject. UK magazines mainly function on faces, not fashion so much.

Still waiting for a good Bottega cover......
