UK Vogue June 2009 : Natalia Vodianova by Mario Testino

Natalia's always on those Vogue best-dressed lists, now she gets to be UK Vogue's choice for best-undressed person too.

I have to say...as much as I love Natalia, (and this cover may be HOT and she's looking gorgeous as always but..) I just don't like it  It's her facial expression.. the make-up, the whole pose. I cannot really put my finger on it but it's just doing nothing for me. Nevertheless I'm totally happy for Natalia getting that much work right now! Not to mention the contents in this issue...Lara, Guinevere, Tiiu - brilliant

hmm ... it's weird for me.

Natalia is undeniably gorgeous. tremendously so, actually. her face is perfection and her body is amazing.

with that being said, however, i have to admit that i have never become a real fan. and i could never figure out why that is. because, truly, i do find her to be almost impossibly beautiful. and i know she's a great model, quite versatile, etc. BUT, her pictures never succeed in pulling-me-in.

for whatever reason, she just doesn't seem like a real person. her eyes seem empty or something. un-emotive. i look at that cover and i see a beautiful girl who could just as easily be a computer-generated image. she just isn't able to translate her personality into her photos. at least in my opinion.

it's all a matter of taste and preferrence. i tend to prefer a model who shows themselves within each of their photographs. a model who exudes personality whether in a picture or in person. i'm sure that Natalia is an educated, interesting, engaging, fabulous person in person (and i've heard many people attest to that), but for some reason, to me, she is unable to translate that energy into photographs. she just seems lifeless. like a literal mannequin.

^well....that has been the very reason she was picked in the first place, I think. That is the type of model the industry has wanted for the last 10 years.

wow, gorgeous!

Gisele Bundchen needs a body like that! ^_^

This is such an amazing issue! First off, the cover looks really good except for Natalia's face; it looks a little blank there. Other than that, I love all of the eds posted, they look so good! I really like Tiiu, Lara, Guin, and Daria's eds, and the More Dash Than Cash ed is cute, Jourdan looks great in it. I must have this issue.

I felt embarassed buying this :ninja: I tried to hide Natalias naked body in my shopping basket under my groceries. But then I don't deal with nudity in this context very well anyway

Usually I read the articles with a pinch of salt but I found myself really admiring Chrisa D'Souza for her sheer honesty in her article about her body. It actually made a nice change.

I'm not overly keen on Daria's ed,just because I feel like it has been done a million times before, but I love Laras ed.Just a shame that she's in beachwear again (not complaining really, the girl is hot  but I'd love to see her doing a more 'serious' shoot for UK Vogue.

i think you're absolutely right, ILJ, but i guess that's been my issue with most of the models of the past few years. for every Daria or KK or Gisele or Jourdan or Natasha there are a thousand models who possess this unattainable, unrelatable, distant, vague beauty like Natalia. her photos are gorgeous, but devoid of her personality.

i don't know why people in the industry complain about not having any SUPERMODELS anymore, when the industry itself promotes girls who don't have the fire. they don't want the international fame. and that was the key ingredient to the Supers back in the day. they loved it. and so they played that up in their photos and we have all these iconic images of women with huge personalities. Natalia is 100% a present day supermodel. there's no denying it. her success in the high fashion world has been positively tremendous ... but she's certainly not coupled it with any sort of "celebrity". and i think part of the problem is that since about 2000, when we saw all of these talentless people becoming celebrities (Paris, Nicole, endless reality stars, etc) the word "celebrity" has become a negative one. so many don't want our models to be celebrities.

well i do. i'm definitely one of those nostalgic for the supermodel era ... and i know that there are many people who are decidedly NOT. but i think that models should represent the pinnacle of glamour and fashion and sexyness. they should be iconic women and muses!

takes all kinds, i suppose!

This is so so true!

I've received this issue today, I love Lara, Daria eds and OF COURSE Natalia looks GORGEOUS.

It's first UK Vogue, I have. But now I'm going to buy some good issues on eBay.
